1 - I capi delle famiglie di Levi si presentarono al sacerdote Eleazaro, a Giosuè figlio di Nun e ai capi di famiglia delle tribù dei figli d'Israele	1 The heads of families of the Levites then came to the priest, Eleazar, Joshua son of Nun and theheads of families of the tribes of Israel-
2 e a loro parlarono in Silo, nella terra di Canaan, in questi termini: «Il Signore comandò per mezzo di Mosè che ci fossero date delle città da abitare coi loro sobborghi per pascere il bestiame».	2 they were then at Shiloh in Canaan. They said to them, 'Through Moses, Yahweh ordered us to begiven towns to live in, with their pasture lands for our livestock.'
3 E i figli d'Israele diedero [ai leviti] delle loro proprietà, secondo il comando del Signore, città e sobborghi.	3 In compliance with Yahweh's order, the Israelites consequently and from their own heritage gave theLevites the fol owing towns with their pasture lands:
4 Si tirò a sorte per la famiglia di Caat, e ai figli di Aronne sommo sacerdote, furono assegnate tredici città fra le tribù di Giuda, di Simeone e di Beniamino;	4 Lots were cast for the clans of the Kohathites: to those Levites who were sons of Aaron the priest, felthirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon and Benjamin;
5 mentre agli altri figli di Caat, cioè agli altri leviti furono assegnate dieci città delle tribù di Efraim, di Dan e della metà della tribù di Manasse.	5 to the other sons of Kohath, by clans,
6 Ai figli di Gerson vennero assegnate in sorte tredici città delle tribù d'Issacar, di Aser, di Neftali e della metà della tribù di Manasse in Basan.	6 fel ten towns from the tribes of Ephraim, Dan, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. To the sons of Gershon,by clans, fel thirteen towns from the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh inBashan.
7 Ai figli di Merari, secondo le loro famiglie, furono assegnate dodici città delle tribù di Ruben, di Gad e di Zabulon.	7 To the sons of Merari, by clans, fel twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben, Gad and Zebulun.
8 I figli d'Israele diedero così ai leviti le città e i loro sobborghi, secondo il comando dato dal Signore per mezzo di Mosè, assegnandole a ciascuno secondo la sorte.	8 The Israelites assigned these towns and their pasture lands to the Levites by lot, as Yahweh hadordered through Moses.
9 Della tribù dei figli di Giuda e di Simeone diede Giosuè le città che portano i seguenti nomi.	9 From the tribe of Judah and the tribe of Simeon, they gave the towns named below.
10 Per i figli di Aronne, secondo le loro famiglie, appartenenti alla discendenza del levita Caat (ai quali fu assegnata dalla sorte la prima parte)	10 The first portion was for the sons of Aaron, belonging to the clans of the Kohathites, to the sons ofLevi, since the first lot was theirs.
11 vennero date Cariatarbe, del padre di Enac, che è detto Ebron, tra le montagne di Giuda, unitamente ai sobborghi circostanti;	11 They gave them Kiriath-Arba, Anak's father's town -- now Hebron -- in the highlands of Judah, with itssurrounding pasture lands.

13 Diede quindi ai figli del sacerdote Aronne: Ebron, città di rifugio e i suoi sobborghi, Lobna coi suoi sobborghi,	13 To the sons of Aaron the priest they gave Hebron, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with itspasture lands, as wel as Libnah with its pasture lands,
14 Jeter, Estemo,	14 Jattir with its pasture lands, Eshtemoa with its pasture lands,
15 Olon, Dabir,	15 Holon with its pasture lands, Debir with its pasture lands,
16 Ain, Jeta, Betsames coi loro sobborghi; nove città appartenenti, come fu detto, a due tribù;	16 Ashan with its pasture lands, Juttah with its pasture lands, and Beth-Shemesh with its pasture lands:nine towns taken from these two tribes;
17 mentre della tribù dei figli di Beniamino furono assegnate Gabaon, Gabae,	17 and, from the tribe of Benjamin, Gibeon with its pasture lands, Geba with its pasture lands,
18 Anatot e Almon coi loro sobborghi: quattro città.	18 Anathoth with its pasture lands and Almon with its pasture lands: four towns.
19 In tutto pei figli di Aronne [vennero assegnate] tredici città coi loro sobborghi.	19 Total number of towns for the priests, the sons of Aaron: thirteen towns with their pasture lands.
20 Al rimanente delle famiglie dei figli di Caat di genere levitico fu dato questo possedimento;	20 As regards the clans of the sons of Kohath, those Levites stil left of the sons of Kohath, the towns oftheir lot were taken from the tribe of Ephraim.
21 della tribù di Efraim la città di rifugio Sichem co' suoi dintorni, situata tra i monti di Efraim, e di più Gazer,	21 They were given Shechem, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with its pasture lands, in thehighlands of Ephraim, as wel as Gezer with its pasture lands,
22 Cibsaim e Betoron coi loro sobborghi: in tutto quattro città.	22 Kibzaim with its pasture lands, and Beth-Horon with its pasture lands: four towns;
23 Della tribù di Dan: Elteco, Gabaton,	23 from the tribe of Dan, Elteke with its pasture lands, Gibbethon with its pasture lands,
24 Aialon e Getremmon coi loro sobborghi: in tutto quattro città;	24 Aijalon with its pasture lands and Gath-Rimmon with its pasture lands: four towns;
25 mentre della mezza tribù di Manasse furono assegnate le città di Tanac e di Getremmon coi loro sobborghi: due città.	25 and, from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Taanach with its pasture lands and Jibleam with its pasturelands: two towns.
26 In tutto vennero assegnate ai figli di Caat, di grado inferiore, dieci città coi loro sobborghi.	26 In al : ten towns with their pasture lands for the remaining clans of the sons of Kohath.
27 Anche ai figli di Gerson della tribù levitica furono date della mezza tribù di Manasse la città di rifugio Gaulon in Basan, e Bosra coi loro sobborghi: due città;	27 To the sons of Gershon, of the levitical clans, were given: from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan inBashan, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with its pasture lands, and Ashtaroth with its pasture lands --two towns;
28 della tribù di Issacar: Cesion, Daberet,	28 from the tribe of Issachar, Kishion with its pasture lands, Dobrath with its pasture lands,
29 Jaramot ed Engannim coi loro sobborghi: quattro città;	29 Jarmuth with its pasture lands and En-Gannim with its pasture lands -- four towns;
30 della tribù di Aser: Masal, Abdon,	30 from the tribe of Asher, Mishal with its pasture lands, Abdon with its pasture lands,
31 Elcat e Roob coi loro sobborghi: quattro città;	31 Helkath with its pasture lands and Rehob with its pasture lands -- four towns;
32 mentre della tribù di Neftali furono assegnate Cedes in Galilea, città di rifugio, Ammot Dor e Cartan coi loro sobborghi: tre città.	32 and, from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee, a city of refuge for those who had kil ed, with itspasture lands, Hammoth-Dor with its pasture lands and Kartan with its pasture lands -- three towns.
33 In tutto le città coi loro sobborghi appartenenti alle famiglie di Gerson furono tredici.	33 Total number of towns of the Gershonites, by clans: thirteen towns with their pasture lands.
34 Ai figli di Merari, leviti di grado inferiore, furono assegnate, secondo le loro famiglie, della tribù di Zabulon: Jecnam, Carta,	34 To the clans of the sons of Merari, the remainder of the Levites, fel : from the tribe of Zebulun,Jokneam with its pasture lands, Kartah with its pasture lands,
35 Damma e Naalol: quattro città coi loro sobborghi;	35 Rimmon with its pasture lands and Nahalal with its pasture lands -- four towns;
36 della tribù di Ruben al di là del Giordano di fronte a Gerico: Bosor, città di rifugio posta nel deserto, Misor, Jaser, Jetson e Mefaat: quattro città coi loro sobborghi,	36 on the other side of the Jordan opposite Jericho, from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer in the desert, on thetableland, a city of refuge for those who had killed, with its pasture lands, Jahaz with its pasture lands,
37 mentre nella tribù di Gad vennero assegnate Ramot in Galaad, città di rifugio, Manaim, Esebon e Jaser: quattro città coi loro sobborghi.	37 Kedemoth with its pasture lands and Mephaath with its pasture lands -- four towns;
38 In tutto le città dei figli di Merari, secondo le loro famiglie e parentele furono dodici.	38 and, from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead, a city of refuge for those who had killed, with its pasturelands, Mahanaim with its pasture lands,
39 In tutto pertanto le città dei leviti in mezzo ai possedimenti dei figli d'Israele furono quarantotto	39 Heshbon with its pasture lands and Jazer with its pasture lands -- four towns.

41 Così il Signore Iddio diede ad Israele tutte le terre che aveva giurato ai padri di dare loro ed essi le possedettero e vi abitarono,	41 The total number of towns for the Levites in Israelite territory was forty-eight towns with their pasture lands.
42 e venne da Dio concessa la pace con tutte le nazioni circostanti e nessuno dei nemici ardì resistere ad essi, ma tutti furon loro assoggettati.	42 These towns consisted in each case of the town itself and the pasture land round it. This was thecase with all the towns.
43 Neppur una delle parole che Dio aveva dette andò a vuoto, ma tutte si avverarono.	43 This was how Yahweh gave the Israelites the entire country which he had sworn to give to theirancestors. They took possession of it and settled in it.
	44 Yahweh granted them tranquil ity on all their frontiers just as he had sworn to their ancestors and, ofal their enemies, not one succeeded in resisting them. Yahweh put al their enemies at their mercy.
	45 Of al the promises that Yahweh had made to the House of Israel, not one failed; al were fulfilled.
