BIBBIA RICCIOTTI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 - Nella Chiesa d'Antiochia vi eran dei profeti e de' dottori: Barnaba, Simone chiamato il Nero, Lucio di Cirene, Manaen, fratello di latte di Erode il tetrarca, e Saulo.	1 In the church at Antioch the following were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon cal ed Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen, who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.
2 E mentre attendevano al servizio del Signore e digiunavano, lo Spirito Santo disse loro: «Segregatemi Saulo e Barnaba per l'opera alla quale gli ho destinati».	2 One day while they were offering worship to the Lord and keeping a fast, the Holy Spirit said, 'I wantBarnabas and Saul set apart for the work to which I have cal ed them.'
3 Allora, dopo aver digiunato e pregato, imposero loro le mani, e li accomiatarono.	3 So it was that after fasting and prayer they laid their hands on them and sent them off.
4 Essi dunque, mandati dallo Spirito Santo, scesero a Seleucia, e di là navigarono verso Cipro.	4 So these two, sent on their mission by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia and from there set sail forCyprus.
5 E giunti a Salamina, annunziavano la parola di Dio nelle sinagoghe de' Giudei. Avevano anche Giovanni nel ministero.	5 They landed at Salamis and proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; John acted astheir assistant.
6 Poi, traversata tutta l'isola sino a Pafo, trovarono un certo mago e falso profeta giudeo, che aveva nome Bar-Iesu,	6 They travel ed the whole length of the island, and at Paphos they came in contact with a Jewishmagician and false prophet cal ed Bar-Jesus.
7 il quale era col proconsole Sergio Paolo, uomo di molto senno. Costui, chiamati a sè Barnaba e Saulo, chiese d'udir la parola di Dio.	7 He was one of the attendants of the proconsul Sergius Paulus, who was an extremely intelligent man.The proconsul summoned Barnabas and Saul and asked to hear the word of God,
8 Ma Elima - il mago - (così s'interpreta il nome di lui), s'opponeva loro, cercando di stornare il proconsole dalla fede.	8 but Elymas the magician (this is what his name means in Greek) tried to stop them so as to prevent theproconsul's conversion to the faith.
9 Allora Saulo, chiamato anche Paolo, acceso di Spirito Santo, fissandolo in viso,	9 Then Saul, whose other name is Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked at him intently
10 disse: «O tu che sei pieno d'ogni frode e d'ogni malizia, figliuol del diavolo, nemico d'ogni giustizia non finirai mai di sovvertire le vie diritte del Signore?	10 and said, 'You utter fraud, you impostor, you son of the devil, you enemy of al uprightness, will younot stop twisting the straightforward ways of the Lord?
11 Or ecco, la mano del Signore è sopra di te, e sarai cieco, senza poter vedere il sole per un certo tempo». D'un subito egli si trovò in fitte tenebre, e, brancolando, cercava chi lo menasse per mano.	11 Now watch how the hand of the Lord wil strike you: you wil be blind, and for a time you wil not seethe sun.' That instant, everything went misty and dark for him, and he groped about to find someone to lead himby the hand.
12 Allora il proconsole, veduto il fatto, credette, ammirando la dottrina del Signore.	12 The proconsul, who had watched everything, became a believer, being much struck by what he hadlearnt about the Lord.
13 Or Paolo e i suoi compagni, imbarcatisi a Pafo, arrivarono a Perge di Panfilia; ma, Giovanni, separatosi da loro, ritornò a Gerusalemme.	13 Paul and his companions went by sea from Paphos to Perga in Pamphylia where John left them to goback to Jerusalem.
14 Essi poi, spingendosi oltre Perge, giunsero ad Antiochia di Pisidia: ed entrati di sabato nella sinagoga, si posero a sedere.	14 The others carried on from Perga til they reached Antioch in Pisidia. Here they went to synagogue onthe Sabbath and took their seats.
15 Dopo la lettura della Legge e dei Profeti, i capi della sinagoga mandarono a dir loro: «Fratelli, se avete qualche parola d'esortazione da rivolgere al popolo, ditela pure».	15 After the passages from the Law and the Prophets had been read, the presidents of the synagoguesent them a message, 'Brothers, if you would like to address some words of encouragement to the congregation,please do so.'
16 Allora Paolo, alzatosi e fatto cenno con la mano, disse: «Uomini d'Israele, e voi che temete Dio, ascoltate.	16 Paul stood up, raised his hand for silence and began to speak: 'Men of Israel, and fearers of God,listen!
17 Il Dio del popolo d'Israele scelse i nostri padri e fece grande questo popolo nel tempo che dimorò nella terra d'Egitto, donde lo trasse con la potenza del suo braccio,	17 The God of our nation Israel chose our ancestors and made our people great when they were living inEgypt, a land not their own; then by divine power he led them out
18 e, per lo spazio di quarant'anni, ne sopportò le costumanze nel deserto.	18 and for about forty years took care of them in the desert.
19 Distrusse poi sette nazioni nella terra di Canaan, la dette loro a sorte,	19 When he had destroyed seven nations in Canaan, he put them in possession of their land
20 circa quattrocentocinquant'anni dopo; e più tardi diede i Giudici, fino a Samuele profeta.	20 for about four hundred and fifty years. After this he gave them judges, down to the prophet Samuel.
21 Poi, chiesto un re, Dio diè loro, per circa quarant'anni, Saul, figlio di Cis, uomo della tribù di Beniamino,	21 Then they demanded a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin.After forty years,
22 e, tolto lui, suscitò loro per re David, al quale rese questa testimonianza: - Io ho trovato David figlio di Jesse, uomo secondo il cuor mio, che farà tutti i miei voleri. -	22 he deposed him and raised up David to be king, whom he attested in these words, "I have foundDavid son of Jesse, a man after my own heart, who wil perform my entire wil ."
23 Dalla progenie di lui Iddio, secondo la sua promessa, ha suscitato il salvatore per Israele, Gesù;	23 To keep his promise, God has raised up for Israel one of David's descendants, Jesus, as Saviour,
24 avendo Giovanni, che andò avanti a lui nella sua venuta, predicato il battesimo della penitenza a tutto il popolo d'Israele;	24 whose coming was heralded by John when he proclaimed a baptism of repentance for the wholepeople of Israel.
25 e, presso a compiere la missione della sua vita, Giovanni diceva: - Chi credete io sia? Non son io quello; ma, ecco, vien dopo di me uno, del quale io non son degno di sciogliere dai piedi i calzari. -	25 Before John ended his course he said, "I am not the one you imagine me to be; there is someonecoming after me whose sandal I am not fit to undo."
26 Fratelli, figliuoli della stirpe di Abramo e quanti tra voi temono Dio, sappiate che la parola di questa salvezza è già venuta.	26 'My brothers, sons of Abraham's race, and al you godfearers, this message of salvation is meant foryou.
27 Infatti, gli abitanti di Gerusalemme e i loro capi, non avendo cognizione di lui nè delle voci de' profeti che si leggono ogni sabato, condannandolo, le adempirono;	27 What the people of Jerusalem and their rulers did, though they did not realise it, was in f
28 pur non trovando in lui causa di morte, chiesero a Pilato che fosse ucciso;	28 Though they found nothing to justify his execution, they condemned him and asked Pilate to have himput to death.
29 e dopo ch'ebbero finito di fare tutto quel ch'era stato scritto di lui, depostolo dal legno, lo posero nel sepolcro.	29 When they had carried out everything that scripture foretells about him they took him down from thetree and buried him in a tomb.
30 Ma Dio lo risuscitò da morte il terzo giorno; e fu visto per molti giorni da coloro,	30 But God raised him from the dead,
31 che eran saliti con lui dalla Galilea a Gerusalemme, e che ora sono suoi testimoni presso il popolo.	31 and for many days he appeared to those who had accompanied him from Galilee to Jerusalem: and itis these same companions of his who are now his witnesses before our people.
32 E noi pure vi rechiamo la buona novella, che la promessa fatta a' nostri padri,	32 'We have come here to tel you the good news that the promise made to our ancestors has comeabout.
33 Dio l'ha adempita con i nostri figli, risuscitando Gesù, come sta scritto anche nel salmo secondo: "Mio Figlio sei tu; oggi io ti ho generato".	33 God has fulfil ed it to their children by raising Jesus from the dead. As scripture says in the psalms: You are my son: today I have fathered you.
34 E che l'abbia risuscitato da' morti in modo da non ritornare nella corruzione, l'ha dichiarato dicendo: "Io vi manterrò fedelmente le promesse fatte a David".	34 The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to return to corruption, is no more than what hehad declared: To you I shal give the holy things promised to David which can be relied upon.
35 E ancora dice in altro luogo: "Non permetterai che il tuo Santo vegga la corruzione".	35 This is also why it says in another text: You wil not al ow your Holy One to see corruption.
36 Or David, servito che ebbe in vita sua al disegno di Dio, s'addormentò, e, come i suoi padri, vide la corruzione.	36 Now when David in his own time had served God's purposes he died; he was buried with hisancestors and has certainly seen corruption.
37 Ma quello cui Dio risuscitò, non ha visto la corruzione.	37 The one whom God has raised up, however, has not seen corruption.
38 Vi sia dunque noto, fratelli, che per lui vi è annunziata la liberazione da' peccati e da tutte quelle cose, dalle quali non avete potuto esser giustificati nella legge di Mosè.	38 'My brothers, I want you to realise that it is through him that forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed toyou. Through him justification from al sins from which the Law of Moses was unable to justify
39 Chiunque crede è giustificato in lui.	39 is being offered to every believer.
40 Badate ora che non venga su voi quello che è scritto ne' profeti:	40 'So be careful -- or what the prophets say wil happen to you.
41 "O dispregiatori, ponete mente e stupite, e disperdetevi; che io fo un'opera a' giorni vostri; opera che voi non credete se qualcuno ve la racconterà"».	41 Cast your eyes around you, mockers; be amazed, and perish! For I am doing something in your owndays that you would never believe if you were told of it.'
42 Or mentre alcuni se n'uscivano, gli apostoli furon pregati di tornar nel sabato seguente a parlare delle medesime cose.	42 As they left they were urged to continue this preaching the fol owing Sabbath.
43 Sciolta che fu poi l'adunanza, molti dei Giudei e de' proseliti pii seguirono Paolo e Barnaba; i quali, con calde parole, li persuasero a perseverare nella grazia di Dio.	43 When the meeting broke up many Jews and devout converts fol owed Paul and Barnabas, and in theirtalks with them Paul and Barnabas urged them to remain faithful to the grace God had given them.
44 Il sabato seguente, quasi tutta la città si radunò per sentire la parola di Dio.	44 The next Sabbath almost the whole town assembled to hear the word of God.
45 Ma i Giudei, vista la gran folla, furon ripieni di zelo, e, bestemmiando, contradicevano alle cose dette da Paolo.	45 When they saw the crowds, the Jews, fil ed with jealousy, used blasphemies to contradict everythingPaul said.
46 Allora Paolo e Barnaba dissero risolutamente: «Era necessario che a voi per primi si annunciasse la parola di Dio; ma, poichè la respingete e vi fate indegni della vita eterna, ecco noi ci volgiamo ai Gentili;	46 Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out fearlessly. 'We had to proclaim the word of God to you first, butsince you have rejected it, since you do not think yourselves worthy of eternal life, here and now we turn to thegentiles.
47 ed è proprio questo l'ordine che il Signore ci ha dato: - Io ti ho posto per esser luce delle Genti, affinchè tu porti la salvezza sino agli estremi confini della terra -».	47 For this is what the Lord commanded us to do when he said: I have made you a light to the nations,so that my salvation may reach the remotest parts of the earth.'
48 I Gentili, a udir questo, n'ebbero letizia, e glorificavano la parola del Signore; e tutti quelli che eran preordinati alla vita eterna, credettero.	48 It made the gentiles very happy to hear this and they gave thanks to the Lord for his message; all whowere destined for eternal life became believers.
49 Così la parola del Signore si spandeva per tutto il paese.	49 Thus the word of the Lord spread through the whole countryside.
50 Ma i Giudei istigarono donne religiose e ragguardevoli e i maggiori della città, e suscitarono una persecuzione contro Paolo e Barnaba, e li scacciarono dalle loro contrade.	50 But the Jews worked on some of the devout women of the upper classes and the leading men of thecity; they stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas and expel ed them from their territory.
51 Ed essi, scossa contro quelli la polvere de' loro piedi, vennero a Iconio;	51 So they shook the dust from their feet in protest against them and went off to Iconium; but theconverts were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.
52 e i discepoli erano pieni d'allegrezza e di Spirito Santo.
