1 After Abimelech, a leader rose up in Israel, Tola, the son of Puah, the paternal uncle of Abimelech, a man of Issachar, who lived in Shamir on mount Ephraim.	1 Después de Abimélec, surgió Tolá, hijo de Puá, hijo de Dodó, para salvar a Israel. Era de Isacar, pero vivía en Samir, en la montaña de Efraím.
2 And he judged Israel for twenty-three years, and he died and was buried at Shamir.	2 El juzgó a Israel durante veintitrés años. Cuando murió, fue sepultado en Samir.
3 After him succeeded Jair, a Gileadite, who judged Israel for twenty-two years,	3 Después de él, surgió Iaír, de Galaad. /El Juzgó a Israel durante veintidós años.
4 having thirty sons sitting upon thirty young donkeys, and who were leaders of thirty cities, which from his name were called Havvoth Jair, that is, the towns of Jair, even to the present day, in the land of Gilead.	4 Tenía treinta hijos, que iban montados en treinta asnos y tenían treinta ciudades. Estas últimas se llaman todavía hoy los Poblados de Iaír, y se encuentran en el territorio de Galaad.
5 And Jair died, and he was buried in the place which is called Kamon.	5 Cuando murió Iaír, lo sepultaron en Camón.
6 But the sons of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, joining new sins to old, and they served idols, the Baals and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria and Sidon, and of Moab and the sons of Ammon, and the Philistines. And they abandoned the Lord, and they did not worship him.	6 Los israelitas volvieron a hacer lo que es malo a los ojos del Señor, sirviendo a los Baales y a las Astartés, a los dioses de Aram, de Sidón y de Moab, y a los dioses de los amonitas y de los filisteos. Así abandonaron al Señor y dejaron de servirlo
7 And the Lord, becoming angry against them, delivered them into the hands of the Philistines and the sons of Ammon.	7 Entonces la ira del Señor se encendió contra Israel, y él los entregó en manos de los filisteos y de los amonitas.
8 And they were afflicted and vehemently oppressed for eighteen years, all who were living beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorite, which is in Gilead,	8 A partir de ese momento, los amonitas oprimieron duramente a los israelitas que vivían al otro lado del Jordán, en el país de los amorreos de Galaad. La opresión duró dieciocho años.
9 to such a great extent that the sons of Ammon, crossing over the Jordan, laid waste to Judah and Benjamin and Ephraim. And Israel was exceedingly afflicted.	9 Además, los amonitas cruzaron el Jordán para atacar también a Judá, a Benjamín y a la casa de Efraím. Israel se encontró así en un grave aprieto.
10 And crying out to the Lord, they said: “We have sinned against you. For we have forsaken the Lord our God, and we have served the Baals.”	10 Entonces los israelitas clamaron al Señor, diciendo: «Hemos pecado contra ti, nuestro Dios, porque te hemos abandonado para servir a los Baales».
11 And the Lord said to them: “Did not the Egyptians, and the Amorites, and the sons of Ammon, and the Philistines,	11 Y el Señor dijo a los israelitas: «Cuando los oprimieron los egipcios, los amorreos, los amonitas, los filisteos,
12 and also the Sidonians, and Amalek, and Canaan, oppress you, and so you cried out to me, and I rescued you from their hand?	12 los sidonios, los amalecitas y los madianitas, ustedes clamaron hacia mí, y yo los salvé de su poder.
13 And yet you have forsaken me, and you have worshipped foreign gods. For this reason, I will not continue to free you any more.	13 A pesar de eso, ustedes me abandonaron y sirvieron a otros dioses. Por eso, no volverá a salvarlos.
14 Go, and call upon the gods whom you have chosen. Let them free you in the time of anguish.”	14 Vayan a invocar a los dioses que ustedes se han elegido: que ellos los salven en el momento del peligro».
15 And the sons of Israel said to the Lord: “We have sinned. You may repay us in whatever way pleases you. Yet free us now.”	15 Los israelitas respondieron al Señor: «Hemos pecado. Trátanos como quieras, pero por favor, sálvanos en este día».
16 And saying these things, they cast out all the idols of the foreign gods from their regions, and they served the Lord God. And he was touched by their miseries.	16 Ellos hicieron desaparecer a los dioses extraños y sirvieron al Señor. Y el Señor no pudo soportar por más tiempo el sufrimiento de Israel.
17 And then the sons of Ammon, shouting out together, pitched their tents in Gilead. And the sons of Israel gathered together against them, and they made camp at Mizpah.	17 Los amonitas se concentraron y fueron a acampar en Galaad. También se reunieron los israelitas y pusieron su campamento en Mispá.
18 And the leaders of Gilead said to one another, “Whoever among us will be the first to begin to contend against the sons of Ammon, he shall be the leader of the people of Gilead.”	18 Entonces el pueblo y los jefes de Galaad se dijeron unos a otros: «¿Quién es el hombre que dirigirá el combate contra los amonitas? El quedará al frente de todos los habitantes de Galaad».
