1 Simon Peter, servant and Apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have been allotted an equal faith with us in the justice of our God and in our Savior Jesus Christ.	1 Lettre de Syméon Pierre, serviteur et apôtre de Jésus Christ, à ceux qui ont la chance de posséder une foi aussi précieuse que la nôtre et d’être sanctifiés par notre Dieu et Sauveur Jésus Christ.
2 Grace to you. And may peace be fulfilled according to the plan of God and of Christ Jesus our Lord,	2 Que la grâce et la paix grandissent en vous, en même temps que la connaissance de Dieu et de Jésus Christ, notre Seigneur!
3 in the same manner that all things which are for life and piety have been given to us by his Divine virtue, through the plan of him who has called us to our own glory and virtue.	3 Son pouvoir divin nous a donné tout ce qui mène à la vie et à la piété. 4 Through Christ, he has given us the greatest and most precious promises, so that by these things you may become sharers in the Divine Nature, fleeing from the corruption of that desire which is in the world.	4 et par elles, nous a donné ce que l’on peut offrir de plus grand et de plus précieux. 8 For if these things are with you, and if they abound, they will cause you to be neither empty, nor without fruit, within the plan of our Lord Jesus Christ.	8 Si vous avez toutes ces vertus à un degré élevé, vous ne serez pas des inutiles, des improductifs, mais vous atteindrez la connaissance de Jésus Christ notre Seigneur.
9 For he who does not have these things at hand is blind and groping, being forgetful of his purification from his former offenses.	9 Par contre, si quelqu’un n’a rien de tout cela, c’est un aveugle ou un myope. Il ne sait déjà plus qu’il a été purifié de ses anciens péchés.
10 Because of this, brothers, be all the more diligent, so that by good works you may make certain your calling and election. For in doing these things, you do not sin at any time.	10 Mais vous, frères, faites tout pour confirmer votre appel et votre élection. Agissez comme je dis et vous ne retomberez pas.
11 For in this way, you shall be provided abundantly with an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.	11 C’est ainsi que vous sera généreusement donné l’accès au royaume éternel de notre Seigneur et sauveur Jésus Christ.
12 For this reason, I will always begin to admonish you about these things, even though, certainly, you know them and are confirmed in the present truth.	12 Donc je ne cesserai pas de vous rappeler tout cela, bien que vous le sachiez déjà et que vous teniez fermement la vérité que vous possédez.
13 But I consider it just, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up with admonishments.	13 Je crois bon de vous rafraîchir la mémoire tant que je vis dans la présente demeure,
14 For it is certain that the laying to rest of this, my tabernacle, is approaching swiftly, just as our Lord Jesus Christ has also indicated to me.	14 car je sais que bientôt cette tente me sera enlevée de la façon que Jésus Christ notre Seigneur me l’a fait savoir.
15 Therefore, I will present a work for you to have, so that, frequently after my passing, you may call to mind these things.	15 Aussi je fais tout pour qu’après mon départ vous puissiez vous rappeler ces choses.
16 For it was not by following fanciful doctrines that we made known to you the power and presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were made eyewitnesses of his greatness.	16 Quand nous vous avons instruits sur la puissance et le retour de notre Seigneur Jésus Christ, nous ne reprenions pas des fables bien tournées: nous-mêmes avons contemplé sa grandeur
17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father, whose voice descended to him from the magnificent glory: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.”	17 quand il a reçu honneur et gloire de Dieu le Père. Alors, des paroles extraordinaires lui ont été adressées par la glorieuse Majesté: "Voici mon Fils, le Bien-aimé, celui en qui je me complais.”
18 We also heard this voice conveyed from heaven, when we were with him on the holy mountain.	18 Cette voix envoyée du ciel, nous l’avons entendue, car nous étions avec lui sur la sainte montagne.
19 And so, we have an even firmer prophetic word, to which you would do well to listen, as to a light shining within a dark place, until the day dawns, and the daystar rises, in your hearts.	19 Moyennant quoi le message des prophètes a pris pour nous une force nouvelle: vous ferez bien de le regarder comme une lampe qui brille en un lieu obscur en attendant la clarté du jour, lorsque l’Étoile du matin se lèvera sur vos cœurs.

21 For prophecy was not conveyed by human will at any time. Instead, holy men were speaking about God while inspired by the Holy Spirit.	21 car aucune prophétie n’est venue d’une initiative humaine, mais c’est sous l’impulsion de l’Esprit Saint que les hommes de Dieu ont parlé.
