Joshua 18

1 And all the sons of Israel gathered together at Shiloh, and there they stationed the Tabernacle of the Testimony. And the land was subjected to them.	1 Erano congregati Iosuè e tutti quanti i figliuoli d' Israel in Silo; e quivi (ripuosono e) ficcarono i tabernacoli del testamento, e fue la terra soggetta (e sottomessa) a loro.
2 But there remained seven tribes of the sons of Israel which had not yet received their possessions.	2 Ma rimasono de' figliuoli d' Israel sette schiatte, le quali ancora non aveano preso la possessione loro.
3 And Joshua said to them: “For how long will you draw back in idleness, and not enter to possess the land, which the Lord, the God of your fathers, has given to you?	3 Ai quali disse Iosuè: perchè vi state e infaccendatevi nella vostra pigrizia, e non entrate a possedere la terra la quale Iddio, vostro Signore e de' vostri padri, vi diede?
4 Select three men from each tribe, so that I may send them, and they may go forth and circle through the land, and may describe it according to the number of each multitude, and may bring back to me what they have written down.	4 Eleggetevi di ciascuna schiatta tre uomini, acciò ch' io li mandi, e sì cerchino intorno alla terra, e sì la considerino e tolgano la misura secondo lo numero di ciascuna (ischiatta e) moltitudine, e sì mi riportino quello che avranno giudicato e fatto.
5 Divide the land for yourselves into seven parts. Let Judah be its bounds on the southern side, and the house of Joseph to the north.	5 E dividetevi intra voi la terra in sette parti; e sia Giuda nelli termini suoi dalla parte australe, e la casa di Iosef dall'aquilone.
6 The land that is in the middle, between these, write it down in seven parts. And you shall come to me, so that I may cast lots for you about this, before the Lord your God.	6 La media terra intra costoro in sette parti giudicate; e verrete quà a me, acciò che dinanzi a Dio vostro Signore metta qui le sorti.
7 But there is no portion among you for the Levites. Instead, the priesthood of the Lord is their inheritance. And Gad and Reuben, and the one half tribe of Manasseh, have already received their possessions beyond the Jordan in the eastern region, which Moses, the servant of the Lord, gave to them.”	7 Imperciò che tra voi non è la parte de' Leviti (cioè di quelli della schiatta di Levi), ma de' preti Iddio Signore la loro eredità è. Ma Gad e Ruben e la metà della schiatta di Manasse già aveano presa le loro possessioni di là dal (fiume) Giordano dalla parte dell' oriente; le quali possessioni diede loro Moisè servo di Dio.
8 And when the men had risen up, so that they might go out to describe the land, Joshua instructed them, saying, “Circle through the land, and describe it, and return to me, so that I may cast lots for you about this, before the Lord, in Shiloh.”	8 E levandosi suso gli uomini per andare a giudicare e dividere la terra, (e porre mente) comandò loro Iosuè, dicendo: cercate intorno alla terra, e sì la considerate e giudicate, e tornate a me, che qui dinanzi a Dio nostro Signore in Silo metta tra voi le sorti.
9 And so they went out. And surveying it, they divided it into seven parts, writing it in a book. And they returned to Joshua, to the camp at Shiloh.	9 E andarono coloro riguardando la terra, e si la divisero in sette parti, iscrivendole in uno volume; e tornarono a Iosuè nel campo in Silo.
10 And he cast lots before the Lord, at Shiloh, and he divided the land to the sons of Israel, in seven parts.	10 Il quale mise le sorti in Silo dinanzi a Dio; e divise la terra ai figliuoli d' Israel in sette parti.
11 And the first lot went to the sons of Benjamin, by their families, so that they would possess the land between the sons of Judah and the sons of Joseph.	11 E venne la sorte prima de' figliuoli di Beniamin, secondo le loro famiglie, acciò che possedessono la terra tra' figliuoli di Giuda e quegli di Iosef.
12 And their border toward the north was from the Jordan, continuing on, near the side of Jericho in the northern region, and from there, ascending toward the west to the mountains, and extending to the wilderness of Bethaven.	12 E fu il loro termine verso l' aquilone dal (fiume) Giordano, andando a lato a Gerico di là dalla parte del settentrione, e quindi verso l' occidente salendo suso alle montagne, vegnendo nella solitudine di Betaven,
13 And it continues to the south beside Luz, which is Bethel. And it descends into Ataroth-addar, at the mountain which is to the south of lower Beth-horon.	13 e passando a lato a Luza dal mezzodi, la quale si è Betel; e andò giuso in Atarot-Addar, nel monte che è al mezzodi di Betoron che sta di sotto;
14 And it turns aside, circling toward the sea, to the south of the mountain which looks out toward Beth-horon, toward the southwest. And its exits are toward Kiriath-baal, which is also called Kiriath-jearim, a city of the sons of Judah. This is their region, toward the sea, in the west.	14 e chinasi giuso, attorniando verso il mare, dal mezzodi del monte che ragguarda Betoron verso l'Africa; e sono le sue uscite in Cariatbaal, la quale si chiama Cariatiarim, cittade de' figliuoli di Giuda. Questa si è la parte (grande) verso il mare all' occidente.
15 But to the south, the border goes on from the part of Kiriath-jearim toward the sea, and it continues as far as the Fountain of the waters of Nephtoah.	15 Mía al mezzodì, dalla parte di Cariatiarim, iscese il termine (e il confine) verso il mare, e viene insino alla fonte dell' acque di Neftoa.
16 And it descends to that part of the mountain which looks out toward the Valley of the sons of Hinnom. And it is opposite the northern region, in the furthest part of the Valley of the Rephaim. And it descends into Geennom, (that is, the Valley of Hinnom,) near the side of the Jebusite toward the south. And it extends to the Fountain of Rogel,	16 E iscende giuso nella parte del monte, il quale ragguarda la valle de' figliuoli di Ennom; ed è verso l'andare di settentrione nell' ultima parte della valle di Rafaim. E iscende giuso in Geennom, cioè la valle di Ennom, a lato il Iebuseo dall'austro; e viene alla fonte di Rogel,
17 crossing from there to the north, and going out to En-Shemesh, that is, to the Fountain of the Sun.	17 passando dall'aquilone, e riuscendo ad Ensemes, cioè alla fonte del sole;
18 And it passes through to the hills that are opposite the region of the Ascent of Adummim. And it descends to Abenboen, that is, so the stone of Bohan, the son of Reuben. And it continues on, at the northern side, to the plains. And it descends into the flatlands.	18 e passa oltre insino a' monticelli che sono della contrada del salire di Adommim; e viene giuso ad Abenboen, cioè alla pietra di Boen figliuolo di Ruben; e passa oltre da lato ad aquilone a' piani; e iscende poi giuso alla pianura,
19 And it advances before Beth-hoglah, to the north. And its exits are to the north, opposite the bay of the very salty sea, in the southern region at the end of the Jordan,	19 e trapassa oltre verso l' aquilone a Betagla; e sono le sue uscite verso uno campo del mare salsissimo, dall'aquilone nella fine del (fiume) Giordano dalla parte australe,
20 which is its border to the east. This is the possession of the sons of Benjamin, with their borders all around, and by their families.	20 il quale si è il suo termine dell' oriente. Questa si è la possessione de' figliuoli di Beniamin, per tutti gli suoi termini (e confini) intorno intorno, a ciaschedune famiglie.
21 And their cities were: Jericho and Beth-hoglah and the Abrupt Valley,	21 E furono le sue cittadi: Ierico e Betagla e la valle di Casis,
22 Beth-arabah and Zemaraim and Bethel,	22 Betaraba e Samaraim e Betel,
23 and Avvim and Parah and Ophrah,	23 e Avim e Afara e Ofera,
24 the town of Ammoni, and Ophni, and Geba: twelve cities, and their villages;	24 e Villa Emona e Ofni e Gabee; le quali sono XII cittadi e le sue ville.
25 Gibeon and Ramah and Beeroth,	25 Poi si è Gabaon e Rama e Berot,
26 and Mizpeh and Chephirah and Mozah,	26 e Mesfe e Cafara, e Amosa,
27 and Rekem, Irpeel, and Taralah,	27 e Recem e Iarefel e Tarela,
28 and Zela, Haeleph, and Jebus, which is Jerusalem, Gibeah and Kiriath: fourteen cities, and their villages. This is the possession of the sons of Benjamin, according to their families.	28 e Sela ed Elef e Iebus, la quale si è Ierusalem, e Gabaat e Cariat; le quali sono cittadi XIIII e le ville loro. Questa si è la possessione [de' figliuoli] di Benianim, secondo le loro famiglie.
