Luke 16

1 And he also said to his disciples: “A certain man was wealthy, and he had a steward of his estate. And this man was accused to him of having dissipated his goods.	1 Etiam diceva alli suoi discepoli: egli era uno uomo ch' era ricco, il quale avea uno gubernatore; ed egli fu infamato appresso il signore suo, come avea dissipati li suoi beni.
2 And he called him and said to him: ‘What is this that I hear about you? Give an account of your stewardship. For you can no longer be my steward.’	2 Ed egli il chiamò, e dissegli: che è questo ch' io odo di te? rendimi ragione della tua ministrazione, imperò che ormai non potrai più gubernare.
3 And the steward said within himself: ‘What shall I do? For my lord is taking the stewardship away from me. I am not strong enough to dig. I am too ashamed to beg.	3 E il gubernatore disse fra sè stesso: che farò io, che il mio signore priverammi della ministrazione? io non posso (zappare nè) fare fossati; mi vergogno a mendicare.
4 I know what I will do so that, when I have been removed from the stewardship, they may receive me into their houses.’	4 So che farò, che quando sarò privato della gubernazione, loro mi accetteranno nelle sue case.
5 And so, calling together each one of his lord’s debtors, he said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my lord?’	5 Chiamati adunque tutti gli debitori del suo signore, diceva al primo: quanto sei obbligato al mio signore?
6 So he said, ‘One hundred jars of oil.’ And he said to him, ‘Take your invoice, and quickly, sit down and write fifty.’	6 E quello disse: cento misure d' olio. Ed egli disse: togli la tua carta; e tosto siedi, e scrivi cinquanta.
7 Next, he said to another, ‘In truth, how much do you owe?’ And he said, ‘One hundred measures of wheat.’ He said to him, ‘Take your record books, and write eighty.’	7 Etiam disse a uno altro: e tu quanto sei tenuto? Il quale disse: cento cori di frumento. Al quale disse: togli le tue scritture, e scrivi ottanta.
8 And the lord praised the iniquitous steward, in that he had acted prudently. For the sons of this age are more prudent with their generation than are the sons of light.	8 (Udendo questo), il suo signore lodò il (suo) fattore di iniquità, chè egli avea fatto prudentemente; conciosia che gli figliuoli di questo mondo sono più prudenti delli figliuoli della luce nella sua generazione.
9 And so I say to you, make friends for yourself using iniquitous mammon, so that, when you will have passed away, they may receive you into the eternal tabernacles.	9 E io vi dico: fatevi amici di mammona della iniquità (cioè delle ricchezze, a dispensarle alli poveri servi di Dio); acciò che, quando verrete a meno, quelli vi ricevino nelli eterni tabernacoli.
10 Whoever is faithful in what is least, is also faithful in what is greater. And whoever is unjust in what is small, is also unjust in what is greater.	10 Chi è fedele nella minima cosa, etiam nella maggiore egli è fedele; e chi è iniquo nel poco, etiam egli è iniquo nel maggiore.
11 So then, if you have not been faithful with iniquitous mammon, who will trust you with what is true?	11 Se adunque non sete stati fedeli nell' iniquo mammona, chi vi crederà quel ch' è vero?
12 And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to another, who will give you what is yours?	12 E se non siete stati fedeli nell' altrui cosa, chi vi darà quel ch' è vostro?
13 No servant is able to serve two lords. For either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will cling to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”	13 Nullo servo può servire a due siguori; imperò che ovvero avrà uno in odio, e amerà l'altro; ovvero accosterassi a uno, e disprezzerà l' altro; voi non potete servire a Dio e alla mammona.
14 But the Pharisees, who were greedy, were listening to all these things. And they ridiculed him.	14 Di che li Farisei, ch' erano avari, udivano tutte queste cose, e schernivanlo
15 And he said to them: “You are the ones who justify yourselves in the sight of men. But God knows your hearts. For what is lifted up by men is an abomination in the sight of God.	15 Egli adunque gli disse: voi siete che in presenza degli uomini vi giustificate; ma Iddio ha conosciuto li cuori vostri; imperò che quel ch' è (superbo e) alto alli uomini, a Dio egli è abominazione.
16 The law and the prophets were until John. Since then, the kingdom of God is being evangelized, and everyone acts with violence toward it.	16 La legge e i profeti furono insino a Ioanne; da lui è (predicato ed) evangelizzato il regno di Dio, e ogni uomo in quello fue forza.
17 But it is easier for heaven and earth to pass away, than for one dot of the law to fall away.	17 Di che egli è più facile venire a meno il cielo e la terra, che cadere uno punto della legge.
18 Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery. And whoever marries her who has been divorced by her husband commits adultery.	18 Ogni uomo che lascia la mogliere sua, e togliene un' altra, commette adulterio; e chi mena quella ch' è stata lassata dal marito, fa fornicazione.
19 A certain man was wealthy, and he was clothed in purple and in fine linen. And he feasted splendidly every day.	19 Egli era uno uomo ricco, il quale vestiva di porpora e di bisso ( ch' è tela sottilissima), e ogni giorno faceva conviti splendidamente.
20 And there was a certain beggar, named Lazarus, who lay at his gate, covered with sores,	20 Ed eravi uno mendicante, chiamato Lazzaro, il quale giaceva in terra alla porta sua, tutto impiagato,
21 wanting to be filled with the crumbs which were falling from the wealthy man’s table. But no one gave it to him. And even the dogs came and licked his sores.	21 desiderando di saturarsi delle minute particelle che cadevano dalla mensa del ricco; al quale nullo davali alcuna cosa; ma etiam li cani venivano, e lingevano le sue piaghe.
22 Then it happened that the beggar died, and he was carried by the Angels into the bosom of Abraham. Now the wealthy man also died, and he was entombed in Hell.	22 Di che avvenne che il mendico (povero) moritte, e dagli angioli fu portato nel seno di Abraam. Similmente moritte il ricco, e fu sepolto nell' inferno.
23 Then lifting up his eyes, while he was in torments, he saw Abraham far away, and Lazarus in his bosom.	23 Ed egli essendo nelli tormenti, e levando in alto gli suoi occhi, vide dalla lunga Abraam, e Lazzaro nel suo seno.
24 And crying out, he said: ‘Father Abraham, take pity on me and send Lazarus, so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water to refresh my tongue. For I am tortured in this fire.’	24 Ed egli gridando disse: padre Abraam, abbi misericordia di me, e manda Lazzaro, ch' egli sì intinga la estremità del dito nell' acqua, acciò che egli rifreschi la mia lingua, imperò ch' io mi tormento in questa fiamma.
25 And Abraham said to him: ‘Son, recall that you received good things in your life, and in comparison, Lazarus received bad things. But now he is consoled, and truly you are tormented.	25 Al quale disse Abraam: figliuolo, arricòrdati che ricevesti li beni nella vita tua, e Lazzaro similmente ricevette gli mali; ma ora egli è consolato, e tu sei tormentato.
26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chaos has been established, so that those who might want to cross from here to you are not able, nor can someone cross from there to here.’	26 E tra tutte queste cose egli è fondato tra voi e noi uno grande caos (che vuol dire confusione, e quivi ponesi per impossibilità di mutare il stato, ovvero gli meriti), per modo che quelli che vogliono di quindi venire a voi, non possono, nè d' indi venire qui da noi.
27 And he said: ‘Then, father, I beg you to send him to my father’s house, for I have five brothers,	27 Onde egli disse: priego te adunque, padre, che il mandi in casa del mio padre.
28 so that he may testify to them, lest they also come into this place of torments.’	28 Imperò ch' io ho cinque fratelli, acciò egli dichiari a loro, che non vengano in questo luogo di tormenti.
29 And Abraham said to him: ‘They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.’	29 Al quale disse Abraam: loro hanno Moisè e gli profeti; odino quelli.
30 So he said: ‘No, father Abraham. But if someone were to go to them from the dead, they would repent.’	30 Ed egli disse: non è così, padre Abraam; ma se alcuno de' morti andaranno a loro, faranno penitenza.
31 But he said to him: ‘If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they believe even if someone has resurrected from the dead.’ ”	31 Ed egli li disse: se loro non odono Moisè e li profeti, non crederanno etiam se alcuno resuscitarà da morte.
