1 And the sons of Israel, and the entire multitude, went into the desert of Sin, in the first month. And the people stayed at Kadesh. And Miriam died there, and she was buried in the same place.	1 En el primer mes, toda la comunidad de los israelitas llegó al desierto de Sin, y el pueblo se estableció en Cades. Allí murió y fue enterrada Miriam.
2 And when the people were in need of water, they came together against Moses and Aaron.	2 Como la comunidad no tenía agua, se produjo un amotinamiento contra Moisés y Aarón.
3 And as it turned into sedition, they said: “If only we had perished among our brothers in the sight of the Lord.	3 El pueblo promovió una querella contra Moisés diciendo: «¡Ojalá hubiéramos muerto cuando murieron nuestros hermanos delante del Señor!
4 Why have you led away the Church of the Lord, into the wilderness, so that both we and our cattle would die?	4 ¿Por qué trajeron a este desierto a la asamblea del Señor, para que muriéramos aquí, nosotros y nuestro ganado?
5 Why did you cause us to ascend from Egypt, and why have you led us into this most wretched place, which is not able to be sown, which does not produce figs, or vines, or pomegranates, and which, moreover, does not even have water to drink?”	5 ¿Por qué nos hicieron salir de Egipto, para traernos a este lugar miserable, donde no hay sembrados, ni higueras, ni viñas, ni granados, y donde ni siquiera hay agua para beber?
6 And Moses and Aaron, dismissing the multitude, entered the tabernacle of the covenant, and they fell prone on the ground, and they cried out to the Lord, and they said: “O Lord God, listen to the outcry of this people, and open for them, from your storehouse, a fountain of living water, so that, being satisfied, their murmuring may cease.” And the glory of the Lord appeared over them.	6 Moisés y Aarón, apartándose de la asamblea, fueron a la entrada de la Carpa del Encuentro y cayeron con el rostro en tierra. Entonces se les apareció la gloria del Señor,
7 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying:	7 y el Señor dijo a Moisés:
8 “Take the rod, and gather the people, you and your brother Aaron, and speak to the rock before them, and it shall bestow waters. And when you have brought forth water from the rock, the entire multitude and their cattle shall drink.”	8 «Toma el bastón y convoca a la comunidad, junto con tu hermano Aarón. Después, a la vista de todos, manden a la roca que dé sus aguas. Así harás para ellos agua de la roca y darás de beber a la comunidad y a su ganado».
9 Therefore, Moses took the rod, which was in the sight of the Lord, just as he had instructed him.	9 Moisés tomó el bastón que estaba delante del Señor, como él se lo había mandado.
10 And having gathered the multitude before the rock, he said to them: “Listen, you who are rebellious and unbelieving. Would we be able to cast out water from this rock?”	10 Luego Moisés y Aarón reunieron a la asamblea frente a la roca, y Moisés lees dijo: «¡Escuchen, rebeldes! ¿Podemos hacer que brote agua de esta roca para ustedes?».
11 And when Moses had lifted up his hand, striking the stone twice with the rod, very great waters went forth, so much so that the people and their cattle were able to drink.	11 Y alzando su mano, golpeó la roca dos veces con el bastón. El agua brotó abundantemente, y bebieron la comunidad y el ganado.
12 And the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe me, so as to sanctify me before the sons of Israel, you shall not lead this people into the land, which I will give to them.”	12 Pero el Señor dijo a Moisés y a Aarón: «Por no haber confiado lo bastante en mí para que yo manifestara mi santidad ante los israelitas, les aseguro que no llevarán a este pueblo hasta la tierra que les he dado».
13 This is the Water of Contradiction, where the sons of Israel were quarreling against the Lord, and he was sanctified in them.	13 Estas son las aguas de Meribá –que significa «Querella»– donde los israelitas promovieron una querella contra el Señor y con las que él manifestó contra el Señor y con las que él manifestó su santidad.
14 Meanwhile, Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom. They said: “Your brother Israel says this: You know of all the hardships which have overtaken us,	14 Moisés envió desde Cades unos mensajeros al rey de Edom, con esta propuesta: «Así habla tu hermano Israel: «Tú conoces todas las dificultades con que hemos tropezado.
15 how our fathers descended into Egypt, and we lived there for a long time, and the Egyptians afflicted both us and our fathers,	15 Nuestros antepasados bajaron a Egipto, y allí estuvimos durante mucho tiempo. Los egipcios nos trataron duramente, a nosotros y a nuestros antepasados.
16 and how we cried out to the Lord, and he heeded us and sent an Angel, who led us away from Egypt. Behold, we are situated in the city of Kadesh, which is at the extremity of your borders.	16 Pero pedimos auxilio al Señor, y él escuchó nuestra voz y nos envió un Angel que nos sacó de Egipto. Ahora estamos en Cades, la población que está al borde de tu territorio.
17 And we beg you to permit us to cross through your land. We will not go through the fields, nor through the vineyards; we will not drink the waters of your wells, but we will travel by the public ways, neither turning aside to the right, nor to the left, until we have passed your borders.”	17 Déjanos pasar por tu país. No cruzaremos por los campos ni por los viñedos, ni beberemos agua de los pozos. Iremos solamente por el camino principal, sin desviarnos ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda, hasta que hayamos atravesado tu territorio».
18 Edom responded to them: “You shall not cross through me, otherwise, I will meet you armed.”	18 Pero Edom les respondió: «Ustedes no pasarán por aquí. Si lo hacen, saldré contra ustedes, espada en mano».
19 And the sons of Israel said: “We will travel by the well-trodden path. And if we or our cattle drink from your waters, we will give you what is just. There shall be no difficulty in the price, only let us cross through quickly.”	19 Los israelitas les respondieron: «Iremos por la ruta, y si nosotros o nuestro ganado llegamos a beber agua, te la pagaremos. Sólo queremos pasar a pie: es una cosa insignificante».
20 But he answered, “You shall not cross.” And immediately he went out to meet them with a countless multitude and a strong hand;	20 Pero ellos respondieron: «No pasarán». Y Edom salió a atacarlos con una tropa numerosa y bien armada.
21 neither was he willing to agree to their petition to concede passage through his borders. For this reason, Israel diverted away from him.	21 Y Edom impidió que los israelitas pasaran por su territorio, ellos dieron un rodeo.
22 And when they had moved the camp from Kadesh, they arrived at mount Hor, which is at the borders of the land of Edom,	22 Toda la comunidad partió de Cades y los israelitas llegaron al monte Hor.
23 where the Lord spoke to Moses:	23 En el monte Hor, que está en la frontera de Edom el Señor dijo a Moisés y a Aarón:
24 “Let Aaron,” he said, “go to his people. For he shall not enter into the land which I have given to the sons of Israel, because he did not believe my mouth at the Waters of Contradiction.	24 «Que Aarón vaya a reunirse con los suyos, porque él no entrará en la tierra que yo di a los israelitas, ya que ustedes se rebelaron contra mis órdenes junto a las aguas de Meribá.
25 Take Aaron, and his son with him, and lead them on to mount Hor.	25 Toma a Aarón y a su hijo Eleazar, y llévalos al monte Hor.
26 And when you have stripped the father of his vestments, you shall put them on Eleazar, his son. Aaron shall be gathered and shall die there.”	26 Allí despojarás a Aarón de sus vestiduras y se las pondrás a su hijo Eleazar. Entonces Aarón se reunirá con los suyos, porque allí morirá».
27 Moses did just as the Lord had instructed. And they ascended mount Hor, in the sight of the entire multitude.	27 Moisés hizo lo que el Señor le había mandado: él, Aarón y su hijo Eleazar subieron al monte Hor a la vista de toda la comunidad.
28 And when he had despoiled Aaron of his vestments, he clothed his son Eleazar with them.	28 Luego Moisés quitó las vestiduras a Aarón y se las puso a su hijo Eleazar. Aarón murió en la cima de la montaña. Cuando Moisés y Eleazar bajaron de la montaña,
29 And when Aaron had died at the top of the mountain, Moses came down with Eleazar.	29 toda la comunidad supo que Aarón había muerto. Y todo Israel lloró a Aarón durante treinta días.
30 And the entire multitude, seeing that Aaron lay dead, wept over him for thirty days, throughout all their families.
