Amos 5

1 Listen to this word, which I lift over you in lamentation. The house of Israel has fallen, and it will no longer rise again.	1 Udite questa parola, la quale io lievo sopra voi, cioè lo pianto: la casa d' Israel cadde, e non si rileverà.
2 The virgin of Israel has been thrown onto her land, there is no one who can raise her up.	2 La vergine d' Israel è gittata nella sua terra, e non è chi la risvegli.
3 For thus says the Lord God: In the city from which a thousand departed, a hundred will remain, and in that from which a hundred departed, ten will remain, in the house of Israel.	3 Questo dice lo Signore Iddio: la città, d'onde ne uscivano mille, cento ve ne rimarrà; di quella donde n' uscivano cento, ve ne rimarranno X nella casa d' Israel.
4 For thus says the Lord to the house of Israel: Seek me and you will live.	4 Però [che] questo dice lo Signore Iddio [alla casa] d'Israel: addomandate me, e viverete.
5 But do not be willing to seek Bethel, and do not be willing to enter Gilgal, and you will not cross into Beer-sheba. For Gilgal will be led into captivity, and Bethel will be useless.	5 E non vogliate addomandare Betel, e non vogliate entrare in Galgala, e non entrerete in Bersabee; però che Galgala sarà menata in prigionia, e Betel sarà (menata) inutile; (questi tre nomi, cioè Betel, Galgala e Bersabee, sono nomi di terre).
6 Seek the Lord and live. Otherwise, the house of Joseph may be destroyed with fire, and it will devour, and there will be no one who can extinguish Bethel.	6 Addomandate lo Signore, e vivete; acciò che forse non si accenda lo fuoco nella casa di Iosef, e divorerà Betel, e non sarà chi lo spenga.
7 You turn judgment into wormwood, and you abandon justice on earth.	7 I quali convertite in assenzio lo giudicio, e la giustizia (del Signore) lasciate in terra.
8 The Maker of Arcturus and Orion, who turns darkness into daybreak and who changes day into night; who calls forth the waters of the sea and who pours them out over the face of the earth: The Lord is his name.	8 Colui che fa lo mese da seminare e da ricogliere, e che fae la nebbia convertire nella mattina, e muta lo dì nella notte; e chiama l' acque del mare, e spargele sopra la faccia della terra; lo suo nome è Signore;
9 It is he who smiles destruction on the healthy, and who brings pillaging upon the powerful.	9 il quale sorride (e fa beffe) del guastamento ch' è sopra lo robusto, e dà spopolamento (e disertamento conduce) sopra lo potente.
10 They held hatred for the one who corrects at the gate, and they have abhorred the one who speaks perfectly.	10 Ed ebbono in odio colui che li riprendeva nella porta, e abbominarono colui che parlava perfettamente.
11 Therefore, on his behalf, because you have torn apart the poor and stolen choice prey from him: you will build houses with square stones and you will not dwell in them; you will plant the most delightful vineyards, and you will not drink wine from them.	11 E però che voi rubavate lo povero, e togliavate la preda eletta da lui, edificherete le case con quadrate pietre, e non abiterete; e pianteretevi le vigne dilettissime, e non berete lo loro vino.
12 For I know your many wicked deeds and the strength of your sins, you enemies of the just, accepting bribes, and depriving the poor at the gate.	12 Però ch' io ho conosciuto le molte vostre fellonie, e li vostri forti peccati; poi che siete nimici del giusto, e togliete lo dono, e battete lo povero nella porta.
13 Therefore, the prudent will be silent at that time, for it is an evil time.	13 E però lo savio tacerà in quello tempo; però che lo tempo è reo.
14 Seek good and not evil, so that you may live. And the Lord God of hosts will be with you, just as you have asked.	14 Addomandate lo bene, e non lo male, accid che voi viviate; e lo Signore delli esèrciti sarà con voi, sì come voi diceste.
15 Hate evil and love good, and establish judgment at the gate. Perhaps then the Lord God of hosts may have mercy on the remnant of Joseph.	15 Abbiate in odio lo male, e amate lo bene, e ordinate nella porta lo giudicio; se forse lo Signore delli esèrciti abbia misericordia dello rimanente di Iosef.
16 Therefore, thus says the Lord God of hosts, the Sovereign: In all the streets, there will be wailing. And in every place where they are outdoors, they will say, “Woe, woe!” And they will call the farmer to mourn, and those who know mourning to lamentation.	16 E però questo dice lo Signore delli esèrciti, lo Iddio signoreggiatore: in tutte le piazze si piange (lo pianto); e tutti quelli che sono di fuori si dirà: guai, guai, (guai a noi); e chiameranno lo lavoratore della terra a piagnere, e chiameranno al pianto coloro che sanno piagnere.
17 And in all the vineyards there will be wailing. For I will cross through your midst, says the Lord.	17 E lo pianto sarà in tutte le vigne; però ch' io passerò per lo mezzo, dice lo Signore.
18 Woe to those who desire the day of the Lord. What is it to you? The day of the Lord is this: darkness and not light.	18 Guai a coloro che desiderano lo dì del Signore; per che lo volete quello dì? a voi questo dì sarà di tenebre, e non di luce.
19 It is as if a man flees from the face of a lion, only to have a bear meet him; or, he enters a house and leans with his hand against the wall, only to have a snake bite him.	19 Come se l' uomo fugga dalla faccia del leone, e incontro li vegna l'orso; ed entri nella casa, e quando anderà su per la parete aggrappandosi con mano, lo serpente lo morda.
20 Will not the day of the Lord be darkness and not light, and gloom with no brightness in it?	20 Or dunque non è come ombra lo dì del Signore, e non luce; e oscuritade, non splendore, in quello?
21 I hate and have rejected your feasts; and I will not accept the odor from your gatherings.	21 Io hoe avuto in odio, e hoe gittate via le vostre feste; e non piglieròe odore delle vostre compagnie.
22 For if you offer me holocausts and your gifts, I will not receive them; and I will not look upon the vows of your fatness.	22 E se voi offerrete a me l' offerte e li vostri doni, io non li riceverò, e non ragguarderò alli voti delle vostre cose grasse.
23 Take away from me the tumult of your songs, and I will not listen to the canticles of your lyre.	23 Leva da me lo tumulto de' vostri versi; e non esaudirò lo canto dello vostro volto.
24 And judgment will be revealed like water, and justice like a mighty torrent.	24 E lo giudicio si leverà come acqua, e la giustizia come uno forte fiumicello.
25 Was it you who offered victims and sacrifices to me in the desert for forty years, house of Israel?	25 Or (non) mi offeriste voi l'ostie e lo sacrificio nel diserto XL anni, o (tu) casa d' Israel?
26 And you carried a tabernacle for your Moloch and the image of your idols: the star of your god, which you made for yourselves.	26 E portaste li tabernacoli a Moloc vostro, e la imagine de' vostri idoli, la stella del vostro iddio, li quali voi faceste a voi.
27 And I will cause you to go into captivity across Damascus, says the Lord. The God of hosts is his name.	27 E farovvi passare Damasco, dice colui il quale si chiama per nome lo Signore Iddio delli esèrciti.
