Jeremiah 36

1 And it happened in the fourth year of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, the king of Judah: it happened that this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying:	1 Cette parole de Yahvé fut adressée à Jérémie en la quatrième année de Joïaqim fils de Josias, roi de Juda:
2 “Take the volume of a book, and you shall write in it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel and Judah, and against all the nations, from the day when I first spoke to you, from the days of Josiah, even to this day.	2 Prends un rouleau et écris dessus toutes les paroles que je t’ai adressées au sujet de Jérusalem et de Juda, et des autres nations, depuis le jour où j’ai commencé à te parler au temps de Josias jusqu’à ce jour.
3 Perhaps it may be that the house of Judah, upon hearing all the evils that I have decided to do to them, may return, each one from his wicked way, and then I will forgive their iniquity and their sin.”	3 Peut-être les gens de Juda prendront-ils au sérieux tout le mal que j’ai décidé de leur faire, et chacun renoncera à sa mauvaise conduite. En ce cas, je leur pardonnerai toutes leurs fautes et leurs péchés.
4 Therefore, Jeremiah called Baruch, the son of Neriah, and Baruch wrote, from the mouth of Jeremiah, all the words of the Lord, which he had spoken to him, in the volume of a book.	4 Jérémie fit donc venir Baruch fils de Nériya. Jérémie dictait, et Baruch écrivait sur un rouleau toutes les paroles de Yahvé qui lui étaient dictées.
5 And Jeremiah instructed Baruch, saying: “I am confined, and so I am unable to enter into the house of the Lord.	5 Puis Jérémie donna cet ordre à Baruch: “On ne me permet pas d’entrer dans la Maison de Yahvé. Aussi tu iras avec le rouleau que tu as écrit sous ma dictée.
6 Therefore, you shall enter and read from the volume, in which you have written from my mouth the words of the Lord, in the hearing of the people in the house of the Lord on the day of the fast. Moreover, you shall also read them in the hearing of all those of Judah who are arriving from their cities.	6 Au prochain jour de jeûne, tu liras toutes ces paroles de Yahvé devant le peuple, dans la Maison de Yahvé. De cette façon tous les Judéens qui viennent de leurs villes l’entendront aussi.
7 Perhaps it may happen that they pray in the sight of the Lord, and each one may return from his wicked way. For great is the fury and indignation that the Lord has declared against this people.”	7 Peut-être leur prière montera-t-elle devant Yahvé de sorte que chacun renonce à sa mauvaise conduite, car grande est la colère, et grand le châtiment dont Yahvé a menacés ce peuple.”
8 And Baruch, the son of Neriah, acted in accord with all that Jeremiah, the prophet, had instructed him, reading from the volume the words of the Lord, in the house of the Lord.	8 Baruch fils de Nériya fit donc tout ce que lui avait dit le prophète Jérémie: lire ce livre et ces paroles de Yahvé dans le Temple
9 And it happened that, in the fifth year of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, the king of Judah, in the ninth month, they proclaimed a fast, in the sight of the Lord, to all the people in Jerusalem, and to the entire multitude which had flowed together, from the cities of Judah, into Jerusalem.	9 Le neuvième mois de la cinquième année de Joïaqim fils de Josias, roi de Juda, on décréta un jeûne en présence de Yahvé et l’on convoqua tout le peuple de Jérusalem ainsi que tous ceux qui pouvaient venir des villes de Juda à Jérusalem.
10 And Baruch read from the volume the words of Jeremiah in the house of the Lord, at the treasury of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, the scribe, in the upper vestibule, at the entrance to the new gate of the house of the Lord, in the hearing of all the people.	10 C’est alors que Baruch fit devant tout le peuple la lecture publique des paroles de Jérémie qui étaient dans le livre. C’était dans la Maison de Yahvé, dans la salle de Guémaryas, fils du scribe Chafan, dans la cour supérieure, à l’entrée de la porte-neuve de la Maison de Yahvé.
11 And when Micaiah, the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard all the words of the Lord from the book,	11 Mikayas, fils de Guémaryas fils de Chafan, entendait toutes les paroles de Yahvé écrites sur le livre.
12 he descended to the house of the king, to the treasury of the scribe. And behold, all the leaders were sitting there: Elishama, the scribe, and Delaiah, the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan, the son of Achbor, and Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah, the son of Hananiah, and all the leaders.	12 Il descendit donc au palais royal, dans la salle du scribe. Tous les chefs étaient là: le scribe Élichama, Délayas fils de Chémayas, Elnathan fils d’Akbor, Guémaryas fils de Chafan, Sidkiyas fils de Hananyas et tous les autres chefs.
13 And Micaiah announced to them all the words that he had heard when Baruch read from the volume to the ears of the people.	13 Mikayas leur rapporta toutes les paroles qu’il avait entendues lorsque Baruch les lisait devant le peuple.
14 And so, all the leaders sent Jehudi, the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, to Baruch, saying, “Take in your hand the volume, from which you have read in the hearing of the people, and come.” Therefore, Baruch, the son of Neriah, took the volume in his hand, and he went to them.	14 Alors tous les chefs envoyèrent Yéhoudi, fils de Nétanya et Chélémyas fils de Kouchi, pour qu’ils disent à Baruch: “Prends avec toi le rouleau dans lequel tu as lu devant le peuple et viens.” Baruch fils de Nériya prit le rouleau et partit avec eux.
15 And they said to him, “Sit and read these things in our hearing.” And Baruch read in their hearing.	15 Ils lui dirent: “Assieds-toi, tu vas nous le lire.” Et Baruch en fit la lecture devant eux.
16 Therefore, when they had heard all the words, each one looked at his neighbor in astonishment, and they said to Baruch: “We ought to report all these words to the king.”	16 À mesure qu’ils entendaient toutes ces paroles, ils se regardaient l’un l’autre effrayés. Ils dirent à Baruch: “Il faut absolument que nous en parlions au roi.”
17 And they questioned him, saying, “Describe to us how you wrote all these words from his mouth.”	17 Puis ils interrogèrent Baruch: “Dis-nous donc comment tu as écrit tout cela?”
18 Then Baruch said to them: “He was speaking with his mouth, as if reading to me. And I wrote in a volume with ink.”	18 Baruch leur répondit: “Pendant qu’il prononçait toutes ces paroles, moi, je les écrivais sur ce livre avec de l’encre.”
19 And the leaders said to Baruch: “Go away and hide, you and Jeremiah, and let no one know where you are.”	19 Les chefs dirent à Baruch: “Va te cacher avec Jérémie, et que personne ne sache où vous êtes.”
20 And they entered to the king, in the court. Furthermore, they stored the volume in the treasury of Elishama, the scribe. And they announced all the words in the hearing of the king.	20 Après quoi ils déposèrent le rouleau dans la salle du scribe Élichama et allèrent trouver le roi dans la cour. Ils mirent le roi au courant de cette affaire.
21 And the king sent Jehudi to take the volume. And bringing it from the treasury of Elishama, the scribe, he read it in the hearing of the king and of all the leaders who were standing around the king.	21 Alors le roi envoya Yéhoudi prendre le rouleau. Yéhoudi le ramassa dans la salle du scribe Élichama et il en fit la lecture devant le roi et devant tous les chefs qui se tenaient debout autour de lui.
22 Now the king was sitting in the winter house, in the ninth month. And there was a hearth placed before him, filled with burning coals.	22 Le roi était assis dans le palais d’hiver, car on était au neuvième mois, et l’on avait allumé un réchaud devant lui.
23 And when Jehudi had read three or four pages, he cut it with a small knife, and he threw it into the fire which was upon the hearth, until the entire volume was consumed by the fire which was upon the hearth.	23 Lorsque Yéhoudi avait lu trois ou quatre colonnes, le roi les déchirait avec le rasoir du scribe et les jetait dans le feu du réchaud; tout le rouleau termina ainsi dans le feu du réchaud.
24 And the king and all his servants, who had heard all these words, were not afraid, and they did not rend their garments.	24 Ni le roi, ni ses officiers ne se troublèrent en entendant toutes ces paroles; aucun d’eux ne déchira ses vêtements.
25 Yet truly, Elnathan, and Delaiah, and Gemariah contradicted the king, so that he might not burn the book. But he did not listen to them.	25 Pourtant Elnathan, Délayas et Guémaryas avaient insisté auprès du roi pour qu’il ne brûle pas le rouleau, mais il ne voulut pas les écouter.
26 And the king instructed Jerahmeel, the son of Amelech, and Seraiah, the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah, the son of Abdeel, so that they would apprehend Baruch, the scribe, and Jeremiah, the prophet. But the Lord concealed them.	26 Il ordonna même à Yérahméel fils du roi, à Séraya fils d’Azriel, et à Chélémyas fils d’Abdéel, d’arrêter le scribe Baruch et le prophète Jérémie; mais Yahvé les avait cachés.
27 And after the king had burned the volume and the words that Baruch had written from the mouth of Jeremiah, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, the prophet, saying:	27 Une parole de Yahvé fut alors adressée à Jérémie à propos de ce rouleau que le roi avait brûlé, où étaient toutes les paroles écrites par Baruch sous la dictée de Jérémie:
28 “Again, take another volume and write in it all the former words, which were in the first volume that Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, has burned.	28 “Retourne acheter un autre rouleau; et tu écriras dessus toutes les paroles qui étaient sur le précédent rouleau, celui que Joïaqim, roi de Juda, a brûlé.
29 And you shall say to Jehoiakim, the king of Judah: Thus says the Lord: You have burned that volume, saying: ‘Why have you written in it, announcing that the king of Babylon will advance quickly, and will devastate this land, and will cause both man and beast to cease from it?’	29 “Tu diras ceci à Joïaqim de la part de Yahvé: Tu as brûlé ce rouleau et tu as dit: Comment as-tu pu écrire: ‘C’est décidé, le roi de Babylone viendra et détruira ce pays; il en fera disparaître hommes et bêtes’?
30 Because of this, thus says the Lord against Jehoiakim, the king of Judah: There will be, from him, no one who may sit upon the throne of David. And his dead body shall be cast out: to the heat by day, and to the frost by night.	30 Eh bien, voici une parole de Yahvé au sujet de Joïaqim, roi de Juda: Aucun de sa famille ne s’assiéra sur le trône de David. Son cadavre sera exposé à la chaleur du jour et au froid de la nuit.
31 And I will visit against him, and against his offspring, and against his servants for their iniquities. And I will lead over them, and over the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and over the men of Judah, all the evil that I have declared against them, for they have not listened.”	31 Je punirai ses fautes et celles de sa famille et de ses serviteurs, je ferai venir sur eux, sur les habitants de Jérusalem et sur les hommes de Juda tout le mal que je leur ai annoncé et qu’ils n’ont pas voulu entendre.”
32 Then Jeremiah took up another volume, and he gave it to Baruch, the son of Neriah, the scribe, who wrote in it, from the mouth of Jeremiah, all the words of the book that Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, had burned with fire. And moreover, there were many more words added than there had been before.	32 Alors Jérémie prit un autre rouleau et le donna à Baruch fils de Nériya, le scribe. Celui-ci écrivit sous la dictée de Jérémie toutes les paroles du livre que Joïaqim, roi de Juda, avait brûlé; il en ajouta d’autres du même style.
