Jeremiah 10

1 Listen to the word that the Lord has spoken concerning you, O house of Israel.	1 CASA d’Israele, ascoltate la parola che il Signore vi ha pronunziata.
2 Thus says the Lord: “Do not choose to learn according to the ways of the Gentiles. And do not be willing to dread the signs of heaven, which the Gentiles fear.	2 Così ha detto il Signore: Non imparate a seguitare i costumi delle genti, e non abbiate paura de’ segni del cielo, perchè le genti ne hanno paura.
3 For the laws of the people are empty. For the work of the hand of the craftsman has cut a tree from the forest with an axe.	3 Perciocchè gli statuti de’ popoli son vanità; conciossiachè si tagli un albero del bosco, per farne un lavoro di mani d’artefice con l’ascia.
4 He has adorned it with silver and gold. He has put it together with nail and hammer, so that it will not fall apart.	4 Quello si adorna con oro, e con argento; e si fa star saldo con chiodi, e con martelli, acciocchè non sia mosso.
5 They have been fabricated in the likeness of a palm tree, and they will not speak. They must be carried to be moved, because they do not have the ability to walk. Therefore, do not be willing to fear them, for they can do neither evil nor good.”	5 Son tratti diritti, a guisa di palma, e non parlano; convien portarli attorno, perchè non possono camminare; non temiate di loro; perciocchè non possono far danno alcuno, ed altresì in lor potere non è di fare alcun bene.
6 O Lord, there is nothing similar to you. You are great, and your name is great in strength.	6 Non vi è niuno pari a te, o Signore; tu sei grande, ed il tuo Nome è grande in forza.
7 Who will not fear you, O King of the nations? For honor is yours. Among all the wise of the nations, and within all their kingdoms, there is nothing similar to you.	7 Chi non ti’ temerebbe, o Re delle genti? conciossiachè questa ti si convenga; perciocchè, fra tutti i savi delle genti, e in tutti i regni loro, non vi è alcun pari a te.
8 Together, they will all be proven to be unwise and foolish. The doctrine of their vanity is made of wood.	8 E tutti insieme sono insensati, e pazzi; il legno è un ammaestramento di vanità.
9 Rolled silver is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz. It is the work of a craftsman, and of the hand of a coppersmith. Hyacinth and purple is their clothing. All these things are the work of artists.	9 L’argento, che si distende col martello, è addotto di Tarsis, e l’oro di Ufaz; sono opera di fabbro, e lavorio di mani di orafo; il lor vestimento è giacinto e porpora; essi tutti sono lavoro d’uomini industriosi.
10 But the Lord is the true God. He is the living God and the everlasting King. Before his indignation, the earth will shake. And the Gentiles will not be able to withstand his threats.	10 Ma il Signore è il vero Dio, egli è l’Iddio vivente, e il Re eterno; la terra trema per la sua ira, e le genti non possono sostenere il suo cruccio.
11 “And so, you shall speak to them in this way: The gods that have not made heaven and earth, let them perish from the earth and from among those places which are under heaven.	11 Così direte loro: Gl’Iddii, che non hanno fatto il cielo, e la terra, periscano d’in su la terra, e di sotto al cielo.
12 He made the earth by his power, he prepared the world in his wisdom, and he stretched out the heavens with his understanding.	12 Colui, che ha fatta la terra con la sua potenza, che ha stabilito il mondo con la sua sapienza, ed ha distesi i cieli col suo intendimento;
13 At his voice, he grants a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he lifts up the clouds from the ends of the earth. He causes the lightning with the rain, and he leads forth the wind from his storehouses.	13 tosto ch’egli dà fuori la sua voce, vi è un romor d’acque nel cielo; egli fa salir vapori dalle estremità della terra, e fa i lampi per la pioggia, e trae il vento fuor de’ suoi tesori.
14 Every man has become a fool concerning knowledge; every artist has been confounded by his graven image. For what he has formed is false, and there is no spirit in these things.	14 Ogni uomo è insensato per scienza; ogni orafo è renduto infame per le sculture; perciocchè le sue statue di getto sono una falsità, e non vi è alcuno spirito in loro.
15 These things are empty, and they are a work deserving of ridicule. In the time of their visitation, they will perish.	15 Sono vanità, lavoro d’inganni; periranno nel tempo della lor visitazione.
16 Jacob’s portion is not like their portion. For his portion is from the One who formed all things. And Israel is the staff of his inheritance. The Lord of hosts is his name.	16 Colui che è la parte di Giacobbe non è come queste cose; perciocchè egli è il Formator d’ogni cosa, ed Israele è la tribù della sua eredità; Il suo Nome è: Il Signor degli eserciti
17 Gather your shame from the earth, you who are living under siege.”	17 O ABITATRICE della fortezza, raccogli la tua mercatanzia, per portarla fuor del paese.
18 For thus says the Lord: “Behold, in this turn, I will cast the inhabitants of the land far away. And I will afflict them no matter where they may be found.”	18 Perciocchè, così ha detto il Signore: Ecco, questa volta gitterò via, come con una frombola, gli abitanti del paese, e li metterò in distretta, acciocchè trovino ciò che han meritato.
19 Woe to me, concerning my destruction! My wound is very grievous. And yet I said: Clearly, this infirmity is mine, and I will carry it.	19 Ahi lasso me! dirà il paese, per cagione del mio fiaccamento! la mia piaga è dolorosa; e pure io avea detto: Questa è una doglia, che ben potrò sofferire.
20 My tent has been destroyed. All my cords have been broken. My sons have gone away from me; they did not remain. There is no one to stretch out my tent any more, nor to set up my curtains.	20 Le mie tende son guaste, e tutte le mie corde son rotte; i miei figliuoli sono usciti fuor di me, e non sono più; non vi è più alcuno che tenda il mio padiglione, nè che rizzi i miei teli.
21 For the pastors have acted foolishly, and they have not sought the Lord. Because of this, they have not understood, and all their flock has been dispersed.	21 Perciocchè i pastori son divenuti insensati, e non hanno ricercato il Signore; perciò non son prosperati, e tutte le lor mandre sono state dissipate.
22 Behold, the sound of a voice approaches, a great commotion from the land of the north: so that he may make the cities of Judah into a wilderness and into a dwelling place for serpents.	22 Ecco, una voce di grido viene, con gran commovimento, dal paese di Settentrione, per ridurre le città di Giuda in desolazione, in ricetti di sciacalli.
23 I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not his own. Neither is it given to man to walk and to direct his own steps.	23 O Signore, io conosco che la via dell’uomo non è in suo potere; e che non è in poter dell’uomo che cammina di addirizzare i suoi passi.
24 Correct me, O Lord, yet truly, do so with judgment, and not in your fury. Otherwise, you will reduce me to nothing.	24 O Signore, castigami, ma pur moderatamente; non nell’ira tua, che talora tu non mi faccia venir meno.
25 Pour out your indignation upon the nations that have not known you, and upon the provinces that have not invoked your name. For they have fed upon Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and they have utterly destroyed his honor.	25 Spandi la tua ira sopra le genti che non ti conoscono, e sopra le nazioni che non invocano il tuo Nome; perciocchè han divorato Giacobbe; anzi l’han divorato, e consumato, ed hanno desolata la sua stanza
