CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINEL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
1 Bride: "On my bed, throughout the night, I sought him whom my soul loves. I sought him, and did not find him."1 En mi lecho, durante la noche, busqué al amado de mi alma. ¡Lo busqué y no lo encontré!
2 "I will rise up, and I will circle through the city. Through the side streets and thoroughfares, I will seek him whom my soul loves. I sought him, and did not find him."2 Me levantaré y recorreré la ciudad; por las calles y las plazas, buscaré al amado de mi alma. ¡Lo busqué y no lo encontré!
3 "The watchers who guard the city found me: “Have you seen him whom my soul loves?”"3 Me encontraron los centinelas que hacen la ronda por la ciudad: «¿Han visto al amado de mi alma?».
4 "When I had passed by them a little, I found him whom my soul loves. I held him, and would not release him, until I would bring him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her who bore me."4 Apenas los había pasado, encontré al amado de mi alma. Lo agarré, y no lo soltaré hasta que lo haya hecho entrar en la casa de mi madre, en la habitación de la que me engendró.
[El Amado]
5 Groom to Chorus: "I bind you by oath, O daughters of Jerusalem, by the does and the stags of the open field, not to disturb or awaken the beloved, until she wills."5 ¡Júrenme, hijas de Jerusalén, por las gacelas y las ciervas del campo, que no despertarán ni desvelarán a mi amor, hasta que ella quiera.
[Coro]
6 Chorus to Groom: "Who is she, who ascends through the desert, like a staff of smoke from the aromatics of myrrh, and frankincense, and every powder of the perfumer?"6 ¿Qué es eso que sube del desierto, como una columna de humo, perfumada de mirra y de incienso y de todos los perfumes exóticos?
[La Amada]
7 Chorus to Bride: "Lo, sixty strong ones, out of all the strongest in Israel, stand watch at the bed of Solomon,"7 ¡Es la litera de Salomón!
9 Bride to Chorus: "King Solomon made himself a portable throne from the wood of Lebanon."9 El rey Salomón se hizo una litera con maderas del Líbano.
10 "He made its columns of silver, the reclining place of gold, the ascent of purple; the middle he covered well, out of charity for the daughters of Jerusalem."10 Sus columnas las hizo de plata, su respaldo de oro, su asiento de púrpura, con el interior revestido de ébano. Hijas de Jerusalén,
11 "O daughters of Zion, go forth and see king Solomon with the diadem with which his mother crowned him, on the day of his espousal, on the day of the rejoicing of his heart."11 salgan a contemplar al rey Salomón, con la corona que le ciñó su madre, el día de su boda, el día de su alegría.
