Proverbs 19

1 Better is the poor who walks in his simplicity, than the rich who twists his lips and is unwise.	1 Mais vale um pobre que caminha na integridade que um insensato com lábios mentirosos.
2 Where there is no knowledge of the soul, there is no good. And whoever hurries with his feet will stumble.	2 Sem a ciência, nem mesmo o zelo é bom: quem precipita seus passos, desvia-se.
3 The foolishness of a man undermines his steps. And then he seethes in his soul against God.	3 A loucura de um homem o leva a um mau caminho; é contra o Senhor que seu coração se irrita.
4 Riches adds many friends. But from the pauper, even those whom he had become separated.	4 A riqueza aumenta o número de amigos, o pobre é abandonado pelo seu {único} companheiro.
5 A false witness shall not go unpunished. And whoever speaks lies will not escape.	5 O falso testemunho não fica sem castigo; o que profere mentira não escapará.
6 Many honor the character of one who is powerful, and there are friends for a giver of gifts.	6 O homem generoso possui muitos lisonjeiros: todos se tornam amigos de quem dá.
7 The brothers of the poor man hate him. Moreover, even his friends have withdrawn far from him. Whoever pursues only words shall have nothing.	7 Todos os irmãos do pobre o odeiam, quanto mais seus amigos não hão de se afastar dele? Está em busca de palavras, mas não terá nada.
8 But whoever possesses reason loves his own soul. And one who guards prudence shall discover good things.	8 Quem adquire bom senso ama sua alma; o que observa a prudência encontra a felicidade.
9 A false witness shall not go unpunished. And whoever speaks lies will perish.	9 O falso testemunho não fica impune; o que profere mentira perecerá.
10 Fine things are not fitting for the foolish, nor is it fitting for a servant to rule over princes.	10 Não convém ao insensato viver entre delícias, muito menos ainda a um escravo dominar os chefes.
11 The doctrine of a man is known through patience. And his glory is to pass beyond iniquities.	11 Um homem sábio sabe conter a sua cólera, e tem por honra passar por cima de uma ofensa.
12 Like the roaring of a lion, so also is the wrath of a king. And his cheerfulness is like the dew upon the grass.	12 Cólera de rei, rugido de leão; favor de rei, orvalho sobre a erva.
13 A foolish son is the grief of his father. And an argumentative wife is like a roof that is continually leaking.	13 Um filho insensato é a desgraça de seu pai; a mulher intrigante é uma goteira inesgotável.
14 A house and its riches are given by parents. But a prudent wife is particularly from the Lord.	14 Casas e bens são a herança dos pais, mas uma mulher sensata é um dom do Senhor.
15 Laziness sends one into a deep sleep, and a dissolute soul will go hungry.	15 A preguiça cai no torpor: a alma indolente terá fome.
16 Whoever guards a commandment guards his own soul. But whoever neglects his own way will die.	16 O que observa o preceito guarda sua vida; quem descuida de seu proceder morrerá.
17 Whoever is merciful to the poor lends to the Lord. And he will repay him for his efforts.	17 Quem se apieda do pobre empresta ao Senhor, que lhe restituirá o benefício.
18 Teach your son; do not despair. But do not set your soul toward putting him to death.	18 Corrige teu filho enquanto há esperança, mas não te enfureças até fazê-lo perecer.
19 Whoever is impatient will sustain damage. And when it has been taken away, he will set up another.	19 O homem iracundo sofrerá um castigo; se o libertares, aumentarás a sua pena.
20 Listen to counsel and take up discipline, so that you may be wise in your latter days.	20 Ouve os conselhos, aceita a instrução: tu serás sábio para o futuro.
21 There are many intentions in the heart of a man. But the will of the Lord shall stand firm.	21 Há muitos planos no coração do homem, mas é a vontade do Senhor que se realiza.
22 An indigent man is merciful. And a pauper is better than a deceitful man.	22 O encanto de um homem é a sua caridade: mais vale o pobre que o mentiroso.
23 The fear of the Lord is unto life. And he shall linger in plentitude, without being visited by disaster.	23 O temor do Senhor conduz à vida; {o que o possui} é saciado: passará a noite sem a visita da desgraça.
24 The lazy conceals his hand under his arm, and he will not so much as bring it to his mouth.	24 O preguiçoso põe sua mão no prato e nem sequer a leva à boca.
25 When the pestilent are scourged, the foolish will become wiser. But if you chastise the wise, he will understand discipline.	25 Castiga o zombador e o simples tornar-se-á sábio; repreende o homem sensato e ele compreenderá por quê.
26 Whoever afflicts his father and flees from his mother is disreputable and unhappy.	26 Quem maltrata seu pai, quem expulsa sua mãe é um filho infame do qual todos se envergonham.
27 Son, do not cease listening to doctrine, and do not be ignorant of the sermons of knowledge.	27 Cessa, meu filho, de ouvir as advertências e isto servirá para te afastares da sabedoria!
28 An unjust witness ridicules judgment. And the mouth of the impious devours iniquity.	28 O testemunho falso zomba da justiça, a boca dos ímpios devora a iniqüidade.
29 Judgments are prepared for those who ridicule. And striking hammers are prepared for the bodies of the foolish.	29 As varas estão preparadas para os mofadores e os golpes para o dorso dos insensatos.
