Psalms 51

1 Unto the end. The understanding of David.	1 - Al corifeo. Ode di David,
2 When Doeg the Edomite came and reported to Saul, David went to the house of Ahimelech.	2 quando venne l'idumeo Doeg e fece la spia a Saul [dicendo]: «David è venuto in casa di Achimelech».
3 Why do you glory in malice, you who are powerful in iniquity?	3 Perchè ti glori della malvagità, tu che sei potente in mal fare?
4 All day long your tongue thinks up injustice. Like a sharp razor, you have wrought deceit.	4 Tutto il dì la tua lingua medita ingiustizia: come affilato rasoio commette la frode.
5 You have loved malice above goodness, and iniquity more than speaking righteousness.	5 Tu ami il male più del bene, l'iniquità [della menzogna] più che il parlare con rettitudine.
6 You have loved all precipitous words, you deceitful tongue.	6 Ami ogni parola di rovina, o lingua ingannatrice!
7 Because of this, God will destroy you in the end. He will pull you up, and he will remove you from your tabernacle and your root from the land of the living.	7 Perciò Dio ti abbatterà per sempre: ti strapperà via e scaccerà dalla tua tenda, ti sradicherà dalla terra de' viventi.
8 The just will see and be afraid, and they will laugh over him, and say:	8 Vedranno i giusti e temeranno, e rideranno di lui, dicendo:
9 “Behold the man who did not set God as his helper. But he hoped in the multitude of his riches, and so he prevailed in his emptiness.”	9 «Ecco l'uomo che non prese Dio a suo protettore; ma sperò nell'abbondanza delle sue ricchezze, e prevalse [un tempo] nella sua vanità [maligna]!».
10 But I, like a fruitful olive tree in the house of God, have hoped in the mercy of God unto eternity, and forever and ever.	10 Ma io son come un olivo fruttifero nella casa di Dio. Io spero nella grazia di Dio in eterno e ne' secoli de' secoli.
11 I will confess to you forever, because you have accomplished it. And I will wait on your name, for it is good in the sight of your saints.	11 Darò lode a te in perpetuo, perchè hai agito, e confiderò nel tuo nome, perchè buono, [celebrandolo] al cospetto de' tuoi santi.
