Psalms 43

1 Unto the end. To the sons of Korah, toward understanding.	1 (Per la fine. Ai figli di Core. Istruttivo).
2 We have heard, O God, with our own ears. Our fathers have announced to us the work that you wrought in their days and in the days of antiquity.	2 O Dio, l'abbiamo udito coi nostri orecchi, i nostri padri ce l'hanno raccontato quello che facesti ai loro giorni, nei tempi antichi.
3 Your hand dispersed the Gentiles, and you transplanted them. You afflicted a people, and you expelled them.	3 Colla tua mano estirpasti le nazioni e piantasti loro, castigati e discacciati i popoli.
4 For they did not take possession of the land by their sword, and their own arm did not save them. But your right hand and your arm, and the light of your countenance did so, because you were pleased with them.	4 Non colla loro spada conquistarono il paese, nè li salvò il loro braccio; ma la tua destra, la tua potenza, lo splendore del tuo volto, perchè li amavi.
5 You yourself are my king and my God, who commands the salvation of Jacob.	5 Tu stesso sei il mio re, il mio Dio, tu che ordini la salvezza di Giacobbe.
6 With you, we will brandish a horn before our enemies; and in your name, we will spurn those rising up against us.	6 Con te noi butteremo per aria i nostri nemici, e nel tuo nome disprezzeremo quelli che insorgono contro di noi.
7 For I will not hope in my bow, and my sword will not save me.	7 Io certo non porrò la speranza nel mio arco; nè sarà la mia spada quella che mi salverà.
8 For you have saved us from those who afflict us, and you have bewildered those who hate us.	8 Tu ci salvi da coloro che ci affliggono, tu svergogni quelli che ci odiano.
9 In God, we will give praise all day long; and in your name, we will confess forever.	9 In Dio ci glorieremo ogni giorno, e celebreremo il tuo nome in eterno.
10 But now, you have rejected and bewildered us, and you will not go forth with our armies, O God.	10 Ma ora tu scacci e svergogni noi, e non esci più, o Dio, alla testa dei nostri eserciti.
11 You have turned our back to our enemies, and those who hated us have plundered for themselves.	11 Ci hai fatto voltare le spalle dinanzi al nostro nemico, e quelli che ci odiano ci han saccheggiati a lor talento.
12 You have given us over like sheep for food. You have scattered us among the Gentiles.	12 Ci hai consegnati come pecore da macello e ci hai dispersi tra le nazioni.
13 You have sold your people without a price, and no great number was exchanged for them.	13 Hai venduto il tuo popolo per niente, e non ci fu gran gente alla vendita.
14 You have set us as a disgrace to our neighbors, a scoff and a derision to those who are around us.	14 Ci hai resi l'obbrobrio dei nostri vicini, il sogghigno, lo scherno di chi ci sta d'intorno.
15 You have set us as a parable among the Gentiles, a shaking of the head among the peoples.	15 Ci hai resi la favola delle nazioni; su noi i popoli scrollano il capo.
16 All day long my shame is before me, and the confusion of my face has covered me,	16 Di continuo mi sta dinanzi la mia ignominia, e il rossore della mia faccia mi ha coperto.
17 before the voice of the reproacher and the commentator, before the face of the adversary and the pursuer.	17 All'udir la voce di chi oltraggia e vitupera, al vedere il nemico, il persecutore.
18 All these things have come upon us, yet we have not forgotten you, and we have not acted unjustly in your covenant.	18 Tutte queste cose ci son piombate addosso. Eppure non ti abbiamo dimenticato, non abbiamo agito iniquamente contro il tuo patto;
19 And our heart has not turned back. And you have not diverted our steps from your way.	19 Nè da te si è ritirato il nostro a cuore, nè hai sviati i nostri passi a dal tuo cammino.
20 For you humbled us in a place of affliction, and the shadow of death has covered us.	20 E tu ci hai umiliati nel luogo i dell'afflizione e ci ha coperti l'ombra di morte.
21 If we have forgotten the name of our God, and if we have extended our hands to a foreign god,	21 Dato che avessimo dimenticato il nome del nostro Dio e stese le nostre mani a Dio straniero,
22 will not God find this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart. For, because of you, we are being killed all day long. We are considered as sheep for the slaughter.	22 Non avrebbe chiesto conto di ciò Dio? Egli conosce i segreti del cuore. Ma noi a causa di te siamo messi a morte tutto il giorno, considerati come pecore da macello.
23 Rise up. Why do you fall asleep, O Lord? Rise up, and do not reject us in the end.	23 Alzati, perchè dormi, o Signore? Alzati, non ci rigettare per sempre.
24 Why do you turn your face away, and why do you forget our needfulness and our tribulation?	24 Perchè nascondi la tua faccia, dimentichi la nostra miseria, la nostra tribolazione?
25 For our soul has been humbled into the dust. Our belly has been bound to the earth.	25 L'anima nostra è prostrata nella polvere, il nostro ventre s'è appiccicato alla terra.
26 Rise up, O Lord. Help us and redeem us, because of your name.	26 Sorgi, o Signore, aiutaci, riscattaci per amor del tuo nome.
