Psalms 34

1 Of David himself. O Lord, judge those who harm me; assail those who attack me.	1 Salmo dello stesso Davidde. Giudica, o Signore, coloro, che mi offendono: combatti coloro, che mi combattono.
2 Take hold of weapons and a shield, and rise up in assistance to me.	2 Prendi l'armi, e lo scudo, e levati a darmi aita.
3 Bring forth the spear, and close in on those who persecute me. Say to my soul, “I am your salvation.”	3 Tira fuori la spada, e serra la strada a coloro, che mi perseguitano: dì all'anima mia: Io sono la tua salute.
4 Let them be confounded and in awe, who pursue my soul. Let them be turned back and be confounded, who think up evil against me.	4 Rimangan confusi, e svergognati tutti coloro, che tendono insidie alla, mia vita. Sian messi in fuga, e in scompiglio quei, che ordiscon del male contro, di me.
5 May they become like dust before the face of the wind, and let the Angel of the Lord hem them in.	5 Siano come polvere al soffiar del vento, e l'Angelo del Signore li prema.
6 May their way become dark and slippery, and may the Angel of the Lord pursue them.	6 La loro via sia tenebrosa, e sdrucciolevole, e l'Angelo del Signore gli incalzi.
7 For, without cause, they have concealed their snare for me unto destruction. Over nothing, they have rebuked my soul.	7 Perocché senza ragione mi tesero occultamente il loro laccio di morte: ingiustamente caricarono di obbrobrj l'anima mia.
8 Let the snare, of which he is ignorant, come upon him, and let the deception, which he has hidden, take hold of him: and may he fall into that very snare.	8 Venga sopra di lui un laccio, a cui egli non pensa, e dalla rete tesa occultamente da lui egli sia preso, e cada nello stesso suo laccio.
9 But my soul will exult in the Lord and delight over his salvation.	9 Ma l'anima mia esulterà nel Signore, e si rallegrerà per la salute, che vien da lui.
10 All my bones will say, “Lord, who is like you?” He rescues the needy from the hand of the stronger one, the indigent and the poor from those who plunder him.	10 Tutte quante le ossa mie diranno: Signore, che è simile a te? Tu, che liberi il povero dalle mani di quei, che ne possono più di lui, l'abbandonato, e il povero da quelli, che la spogliavano.
11 Unfair witnesses have risen up, interrogating me about things of which I am ignorant.	11 Testimoni iniqui, levatisi su, mi domandavan conto di cose, ch'io ignorava.
12 They repaid me evil for good, to the deprivation of my soul.	12 Pel bene mi rendevan dei mali: la sterilità all'anima mia.
13 But as for me, when they were harassing me, I was clothed with haircloth. I humbled my soul with fasting, and my prayer will become my sinews.	13 Ma io mentre quelli mi molestavano, mi rivestii di cilizio. Umiliai col digiuno l'anima mia, e nel mio seno si aggirava la mia orazione.
14 Like a neighbor, and like our brother, so did I please; like one mourning and contrite, so was I humbled.	14 Quasi parente, e quasi fratello lo trattai con amore: mi umiliai come uno, che è in duolo, e in tristezza.
15 And they have been joyful against me, and they joined together. Scourges have been gathered over me, and I was ignorant of it.	15 Ed essi eran lieti, e si adunaron contro di me: furon messi insieme flagelli contro di me, e io non li conosceva.
16 They have been scattered, yet they were unremorseful. They have tested me. They scoffed at me with scorn. They gnashed their teeth over me.	16 Vennero in discordia, ma non si compunsero: mi tentarono, mi insultarono grandemente, digrignavano i denti contro di me.
17 Lord, when will you look down upon me? Restore my soul from before their malice, my only one from before the lions.	17 Signore, quando porrai tu mente? Sottraggi l'anima mia dalla malignità di costoro, dai leoni l'unica mia.
18 I will confess to you in a great Church. I will praise you among a weighty people.	18 Te io confesserò in una Chiesa grande; in mezzo a un popolo numerosa ti loderò.
19 May those who are my unjust adversaries not be glad over me: those who have hated me without cause, and who nod agreement with their eyes.	19 Non abbiano da goder del mio male quelli, che ingiustamente mi sono avversi; quelli, che mi odiano senza cagione, e ammiccan cogli occhi.
20 For indeed, they spoke peacefully to me; and speaking with passion to the earth, they intended deceit.	20 Imperocché meco parlavan parole di pace; ma nella commozion della terra meditavano inganni.
21 And they opened their mouth wide over me. They said, “Well, well, our eyes have seen.”	21 Dilatarono la loro bocca contro di me; dissero: Bene sta, bene sta, i nostri occhi han veduto.
22 You have seen, O Lord, do not be silent. Lord, do not depart from me.	22 Tu hai veduto, o Signore, non restare in silenzio: Signore, non ritirarti da me.
23 Rise up and be attentive to my judgment, to my cause, my God and my Lord.	23 Levati su, e abbi a cuore il mio giudizio; la mia causa, Dio mio e Signor mio.
24 Judge me according to your justice, O Lord, my God, and do not let them be glad over me.	24 Giudicami secondo la tua giustizia, o Signore Dio mio, e coloro di me non trionfino.
25 Do not let them say in their hearts, “Well, well, to our soul.” Neither let them say, “We have devoured him.”	25 Non dicano ne' loro cuori: Bene sta, buon per noi: e non dicano: Lo abbiam divorato.
26 Let them blush and be in awe together, those who congratulate at my misfortunes. Let them be clothed with confusion and awe, who speak great things against me.	26 Siano tutti insieme confusi, e svergognati quelli, che si rallegrano de' miei mali. Siano vestiti di confusione, e di rossore coloro, che parlan superbamente, contro di me.
27 Let them exult and rejoice, who wish my justice, and let them ever say, “The Lord be magnified,” who will the peace of his servant.	27 Esultino, e si rallegrino quei che favoriscono la mia giustizia; e dicano sempre: Sia magnificato il Signore, quei, che la pace desiderano del servo di lui.
28 And so my tongue will express your justice: your praise all day long.	28 E la mia lingua mediterà la tua giustizia: le lodi tue tutto il giorno.
