1 And when the entire army had heard that Holofernes was beheaded, reason and resolution fled from them, and, being moved by trembling and fear alone, they thought only to flee to safety.	1 Al enterarse de la noticia, los que estaban en el campamento quedaron fuera de sí por lo ocurrido.
2 So then, no one spoke with his neighbor, but hanging their heads and leaving everything behind, they hurried to escape from the Hebrews, who, as they had heard, were advancing against them well-armed. And they fled through the ways of the fields and the paths of the hills.	2 El terror y el pánico se apoderaron de ellos, y ni un solo hombre permaneció al lado de su compañero; todos se desbandaron, escapando apresuradamente por todos los senderos de la llanura y de la montaña.
3 And so, the sons of Israel, seeing them fleeing, pursued them. And they went down after them, sounding the trumpets and howling.	3 También se dieron a la fuga los que estaban apostados en la montaña alrededor de Betulia; y todos los israelitas capaces de empuñar las armas se precipitaron sobre ellos.
4 And, since the Assyrians were not united, they rushed headlong in their flight. But the sons of Israel, pursuing like one unit, struck down all they were able to find.	4 Ozías envió mensajeros a Betomestaim, a Bebai, a Jobai y a Colá, y a todo el territorio de Israel, para anunciar lo sucedido, a fin de que todos acometieran contra los enemigos hasta aniquilarlos.
5 And so, Uzziah sent messengers through all the cities and regions of Israel.	5 Cuando la noticia llegó a los demás israelitas, todos, como un solo hombre, cayeron sobre ellos y los arrasaron hasta Jobai. Además, los de Galaad y los de Galilea los acometieron por los flancos, causándoles un gran estrago, hasta más allá de Damasco y sus fronteras.
6 And then, every region and every city sent their chosen young men with weapons after them, and they pursued them with the edge of the sword, until they passed through to the extremities of their borders.	6 Mientras tanto, los demás habitantes de Betulia irrumpieron en el campamento asirio y lo saquearon, obteniendo un riquísimo botín.
7 But the remainder, who were in Bethulia, entered the camp of the Assyrians and took away the plunder that the Assyrians, in their flight, had left behind, and they were exceedingly burdened.	7 Los otros israelitas, por su parte, al volver de la matanza, se apoderaron del resto; y lo mismo hicieron los habitantes de los poblados y caseríos, tanto los de la montaña como los de la llanura: todos se apoderaron de abundantes despojos, porque los había en cantidades fabulosas.
8 In truth, those who returned victorious to Bethulia brought with them everything that was theirs. So there was no numbering their cattle, and beasts, and everything they could carry, so much so that, from the least to the greatest, all were made rich by their spoils.	8 El sumo sacerdote Joaquím y los ancianos del pueblo de Israel que habitaban en Jerusalén vinieron para contemplar los beneficios con que Dios había colmado a Israel, y también para ver a Judit y saludarla.
9 But Joachim, the high priest, came from Jerusalem to Bethulia with all his elders to see Judith.	9 Al verla, todos a unas, la elogiaron y le dijeron: «¡Tú eres la gloria de Jerusalén, tú el gran orgullo de Israel, tú el insigne honor de nuestra raza!
10 And when she had gone out to him, they all blessed her with one voice, saying: “You are the glory of Jerusalem, you are the joy of Israel, you are the honor of our people.	10 Al realizar todo esto con tu propia mano, has hecho un gran bien a Israel, y Dios ha aprobado tu obra. Que el Señor todopoderoso te bendiga para siempre». Y todo el pueblo dijo: «¡Amén!».
11 For you have acted manfully, and your heart has been strengthened. For you loved chastity, and, after your husband, you have not known any other. Therefore, also the hand of the Lord has strengthened you, and, therefore, you will be blessed for all eternity.”	11 El pueblo se entregó al saqueo del campamento durante treinta días. Asignaron a Judit la carpa de Holofernes, con toda su vajilla de plata, sus lechos, sus recipientes y todo su mobiliario. Ella tomó esas cosas, cargó su mula, enganchó sus carros y amontonó todo encima.
12 And all the people said: “Amen. Amen.”	12 Todas las mujeres de Israel acudieron a verla y a elogiarla, y algunas de ellas formaron un coro de danzas en su honor. Judit, tomó en sus manos unas guirnaldas y las distribuyó entre las que las rodeaban.
13 But all of thirty days were scarcely enough for the people of Israel to collect the spoils of the Assyrians.	13 Luego ella y sus compañeras se coronaron con ramos de olivo, y ella, al frente de todo el pueblo, dirigía las danzas corales de todas las mujeres. Al mismo tiempo, los hombres de Israel, con sus armas y ceñidos de coronas, la seguían entonando himnos de alabanza.
14 But moreover, all of those things that were clearly the particular possessions of Holofernes they gave to Judith: with gold, and silver, and garments, and gems, and furniture. And these were all delivered to her by the people.	14 Entonces Judit entonó este canto de acción de gracias en presencia de todo Israel, y todo el pueblo coreó su canto.
15 And all the people rejoiced, with the women, and the virgins, and the young men, playing on wind instruments and stringed instruments.
