Nehemiah 8

1 And the seventh month had arrived. Now the sons of Israel were in their cities. And all the people were gathered together, like one man, in the street which is before the water gate. And they spoke to Ezra the scribe, so that he would bring the book of the law of Moses, which the Lord had instructed to Israel.	1 E venne il mese settimo (della festività della Scenofegia, cioè la festa de' tabernacoli sotto Esdra e Neemia); e i figliuoli d' Israel erano nelle sue cittadi. E congregossi tutto il popolo, quasi come fosse uno uomo, alla piazza (cioè di una volontà) la qual è dinanzi alla porta dell' acque; e dissero ad Esdra scrivano, che portasse il libro della legge di Moisè, la quale comandò il Signore a Israel.
2 Therefore, Ezra the priest brought the law before the multitude of men and women, and all those who were able to understand, on the first day of the seventh month.	2 Portò dunque Esdra sacerdote la legge dinanzi la moltitudine degli uomini e delle donne, e di tutti che poteano intendere, nel primo dì del mese settimo.
3 And he read it openly in the street which was before the water gate, from morning even until midday, in the sight of the men and women, and those who understood. And the ears of all the people were attentive to the book.	3 E lesse in quello apertamente nella piazza la qual era dinanzi alla porta dell' acque, dalla mattina persino al mezzodì, nel cospetto degli uomini e delle donne e de' savii; e le orecchie di tutto il popolo erano dirizzate al libro.
4 Then Ezra the scribe stood upon a step of wood, which he had made for speaking. And standing beside him were Mattithiah, and Shemaiah, and Anaiah, and Uriah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right. And on the left were Pedaiah, Mishael, and Malchijah, and Hashum, and Hashbaddanah, Zechariah, and Meshullam.	4 E istette Esdra scrivano sopra una sedia di legno, la qual egli avea fatta fare per parlare; stettero appo lui Matatia e Semeia e Ania e Uria [ed Elcia] e Maasia alla sua mano destra; e alla sinistra Fadaia, Misael e Melchia e Asum e Asbadana e Zacaria e Mosollam.
5 And Ezra opened the book before all the people. For he stood out above all the people. And when he had opened it, all the people stood up.	5 E aprì Esdra il libro dinanzi a tutto il popolo; e soprastava a tutto il popolo; e dopo ch' egli ebbe aperto il libro, stette cheto tutto il popolo.
6 And Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God. And all the people responded, “Amen, Amen,” lifting up their hands. And they bowed down, and they adored God, facing the ground.	6 E benedisse Esdra al Signore Iddio (con) grande (voce); e rispose il popolo: Amen, Amen, levando le mani sue; e piegoronsi tutti, e adororono Iddio chinati in terra.
7 Then Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, the Levites, caused the people to be silent in order to hear the law. And the people were standing on their feet.	7 E dopo questo Iosue e Bani e Serebia, Iamin, Accub, Septai, Odia, Maasia, Celita, Azaria, Iozabed, Anan, Falaia, Leviti, facevano segno al popolo che stesse cheto a udire la legge; e il popolo stava nel luogo suo.
8 And they read from the book of the law of God, distinctly and plainly, so as to be understood. And when it was read, they did understand.	8 E leggerono nel libro della legge di Dio distinta e apertamente, sì che si potesse intendere; e tutti intesero quanto si leggea.
9 Then Nehemiah (the same is the cupbearer) and Ezra, the priest and scribe, and the Levites, who were interpreting for all the people, said: “This day has been sanctified to the Lord our God. Do not mourn, and do not weep.” For all of the people were weeping, as they were listening to the words of the law.	9 E disse Neemia; esso è Atersata; ed Esdra sacerdote e scrivano, e i Leviti, i quali esponevano la legge a tutto il popolo: oggi è lo [dì] santificato al nostro Signore Iddio; non istate mesti e non piagnete. Però che tutto il popolo piagnea, udendo le parole della legge.
10 And he said to them: “Go, eat fat foods and drink sweet drinks, and send portions to those who have not prepared for themselves. For it is the holy day of the Lord. And do not be sad. For the joy of the Lord is also our strength.”	10 E disse a loro: andate, e manucate di quelle cose grasse (che avete preparate), bevete del vino dolce, e mandatene parte a quegli che [non] si han preparato; però che oggi è di santo del Signore, e non vi contristate; lo gaudio del Signore è la fortezza nostra.
11 Then the Levites caused the people to be silent, saying: “Be quiet. For the day is holy. And do not be sorrowful.”	11 E i Leviti faceano segno al popolo, dicendo: state cheti, però che oggi è di santo, e non vi dolete.
12 And so all the people went forth, so that they might eat and drink, and so that they might send portions, and so that they might make a great rejoicing. For they understood the words that he had taught to them.	12 Andossene allora tutto il popolo a manucare e bere, e mandorono a chi non s' avea preparato, e a far grande festa; però che aveano inteso le parole le quali (Esdra li) avea manifestato.
13 And on the second day, the leaders of the families of all the people, the priests, and the Levites were gathered together to Ezra the scribe, so that he might interpret for them the words of the law.	13 E nel secondo di congregoronsi li principi delle famiglie di tutto il popolo, sacerdoti e leviti; e vennero ad Esdra cancelliere, acciò che declarasse loro le parole della legge.
14 And they found written in the law, which the Lord had instructed by the hand of Moses, that the sons of Israel should live in tabernacles on the day of solemnity in the seventh month,	14 E trovorono scritto nella legge, lo Signore aver comandato a Moisè, che i figliuoli d' Israel nel di solenne del mese settimo abitassero ne' tabernacoli;
15 and that they should proclaim and send out a voice in all their cities and in Jerusalem, saying: “Go forth to the mount, and bring olive branches, and the branches of beautiful trees, myrtle branches, and palm branches, and the branches of thick trees,” so that they might make tabernacles, just as it was written.	15 e che si dovesse predicare e manifestare per tutte le sue cittadi, e Ierusalem, dicendo: uscite fuori ne' monti, e portate li rami di olivo, e li rami de' legni bellissimi, li rami del mirto e li rami delle palme e li rami de' legni de' boschi, acciò che faccino i loro tabernacoli, come è scritto.
16 And the people went forth and brought. And they made for themselves tabernacles, each one at his own dwelling, and in their courts, and in the courts of the house of God, and in the street of the water gate, and in the street of the gate of Ephraim.	16 E uscì fuori tutto il popolo, e portoro. E fecero tabernacoli, ciascuno nel coperto suo, e nelli portici suoi, e nelli portici del tempio di Dio, e nella piazza della porta dell' acque, e nella piazza della porta di Efraim.
17 Therefore, the entire assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made tabernacles and lived in tabernacles. For from the days of Jeshua, the son of Nun, even to that day, the sons of Israel had not done so. And there was exceedingly great rejoicing.	17 Fece dunque tutta la congregazione di coloro, che erano tornati di prigione, li tabernacoli, e abitarono nelli tabernacoli; non aveano fatto i figliuoli d' Israel, dalli dì di Iosuè figliuolo di Nun, tal solennità insino a quello dì; e fu una letizia molto grande.
18 Now he read in the book of the law of God, throughout each day, from the first day even to the very last day. And they kept the solemnity for seven days. And on the eighth day, there was a gathering according to the ritual.	18 E lesse nel libro della legge di Dio ogni dì, dal primo dì persino all' ultimo; e fecero questa solennità per VII dì, e nell' ottavo di fa tolta l'offerta secondo la consuetudine.
