Then the people of the land took Jehoahaz, the son of Josiah, and they appointed him king in place of his father, in Jerusalem.1 El pueblo de la tierra tomó a Joacaz, hijo de Josías, y le proclamó rey en Jerusalén, en lugar de su padre.
Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for three months in Jerusalem.2 Joacaz tenía veintitrés años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó tres meses en Jerusalén.
Then the king of Egypt, when he had arrived in Jerusalem, removed him, and condemned the land to one hundred talents of silver and one talent of gold.3 El rey de Egipto le destituyó en Jerusalén, e impuso al país una contribución de cien talentos de plata y un talento de oro.
And he appointed Eliakim, his brother, as king in his place, over Judah and Jerusalem. And he changed his name to Jehoiakim. Truly, he took Jehoahaz with him, and he led him away to Egypt.4 El rey de Egipto proclamó rey de Judá y Jerusalén a Eliaquim, hermano de Joacaz, cambiándole el nombre por el de Yoyaquim. Y a Joacaz, su hermano, le tomó Nekó y lo llevó a Egipto.
Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for eleven years in Jerusalem. And he did evil before the Lord his God.5 Yoyaquim tenía veinticinco años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó once años en Jerusalén. Hizo el mal a los ojos de Yahveh su Dios.
Nebuchadnezzar, the king of the Chaldeans, ascended against him, and led him bound in chains to Babylon.6 Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, subió contra él y le ató con cadenas de bronce para conducirle a Babilonia.
And to there, he also took away the vessels of the Lord, and he placed them in his temple.7 Nabucodonosor llevó también a Babilonia algunos objetos de la Casa de Yahveh que depositó en su santuario, en Babilonia.
But the rest of the words of Jehoiakim, and his abominations that he worked, and the things that were found in him, are contained in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
Jehoiachin was eight years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for three months and ten days in Jerusalem. And he did evil in the sight of the Lord.9 Joaquín tenía ocho años cuando empezó a reinar, y reinó tres meses y diez días en Jerusalén; hizo el mal a los ojos de Yahveh.
And when the course of a year had turned, king Nebuchadnezzar sent and brought him to Babylon, carrying away, at the same time, the most precious vessels of the house of the Lord. Truly, he appointed his uncle, Zedekiah, as king over Judah and Jerusalem.10 A la vuelta de un año mandó el rey Nabucodonosor que le llevasen a Babilonia, juntamente con los objetos más preciosos de la Casa de Yahveh, y puso por rey en Judá y Jerusalén a Sedecías, hermano de Joaquín.
Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he had begun to reign. And he reigned for eleven years in Jerusalem.11 Sedecías tenía veintiún años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó once años en Jerusalén.
And he did evil in the eyes of the Lord his God. And he did not show remorse before the face of the prophet Jeremiah, who was speaking to him from the mouth of the Lord.12 Hizo el mal a los ojos de Yahveh su Dios, y no se humilló ante el profeta Jeremías que le hablaba por boca de Yahveh.
Also, he withdrew from king Nebuchadnezzar, who had bound him by an oath to God, and he hardened his own neck and his own heart, so that he did not return to the Lord, the God of Israel.13 También él se rebeló contra el rey Nabucodonosor, que le había hecho jurar por Dios; endureció su cerviz y se obstinó en su corazón, en vez de volverse a Yahveh, el Dios de Israel.
Then too, all the leaders of the priests, with the people, transgressed iniquitously, in accord with all the abominations of the Gentiles. And they polluted the house of the Lord, which he had sanctified to himself in Jerusalem.14 Del mismo modo, todos los jefes de los sacerdotes y el pueblo multiplicaron sus infidelidades, según todas las costumbres abominables de las gentes, y mancharon la Casa de Yahveh, que él se había consagrado en Jerusalén.
Then the Lord, the God of their fathers, sent to them, by the hand of his messengers, rising in the night and daily admonishing them. For he was lenient to his people and to his habitation.15 Yahveh, el Dios de sus padres, les envió desde el principio avisos por medio de sus mensajeros, porque tenía compasión de su pueblo y de su Morada.
But they ridiculed the messengers of God, and they gave little weight to his words, and they mocked the prophets, until the fury of the Lord ascended against his people, and there was no remedy.16 Pero ellos se burlaron de los mensajeros de Dios, despreciaron sus palabras y se mofaron de sus profetas, hasta que subió la ira de Yahveh contra su pueblo a tal punto que ya no hubo remedio.
For he led over them the king of the Chaldeans. And he put to death their young men by the sword, in the house of his sanctuary. There was no pity for adolescents, nor virgins, nor the elderly, nor even for the disabled. Instead, he delivered them all into his hands.17 Entonces hizo subir contra ellos al rey de los caldeos, que mató a espada a los mejores en la Casa de su santuario, sin perdonar a joven ni a doncella, a viejo ni a canoso; a todos los entregó Dios en su mano.
And all the vessels of the house of Lord, as much the greater as the lesser, and the treasures of the temple, and of the king and the rulers, he carried away to Babylon.18 Todos los objetos de la Casa de Dios, grandes y pequeños, los tesoros de la Casa de Yahveh y los tesoros del rey y de sus jefes, todo se lo llevó a Babilonia.
The enemies set fire to the house of God, and they destroyed the wall of Jerusalem. They burned down all the towers. And whatever was precious, they demolished.19 Incendiaron la Casa de Dios y derribaron las murallas de Jerusalén: pegaron fuego a todos sus palacios y destruyeron todos sus objetos preciosos.
If anyone had escaped from the sword, he was led into Babylon. And he served the king and his sons, until the king of Persia would command,20 Y a los que escaparon de la espada los llevó cautivos a Babilonia, donde fueron esclavos de él y de sus hijos hasta el advenimiento del reino de los persas;
and the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah would be fulfilled, and the land would celebrate her Sabbaths. For during all the days of the desolation, she kept a Sabbath, until the seventy years were completed.21 para que se cumpliese la palabra de Yahveh, por boca de Jeremías: «Hasta que el país haya pagado sus sábados, descansará todos los días de la desolación, hasta que se cumplan los setenta años».
Then, in the first year of Cyrus, the king of the Persians, in order to fulfill the word of the Lord, which he had spoken by the mouth of Jeremiah, the Lord stirred up the heart of Cyrus, the king of the Persians, who commanded this to be proclaimed throughout his entire kingdom, and also in writing, saying:22 En el año primero de Ciro, rey de Persia, en cumplimiento de la palabra de Yahveh, por boca de Jeremías, movió Yahveh el espíritu de Ciro, rey de Persia, que mandó publicar de palabra y por escrito en todo su reino:
“Thus says Cyrus, the king of the Persians: The Lord, the God of heaven, has given to me all the kingdoms of the earth. And he has instructed me that I should build for him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judea. Who among you is from his entire people? May the Lord his God be with him, and let him ascend.”23 «Así habla Ciro, rey de Persia: Yahveh, el Dios de los cielos, me ha dado todos los reinos de la tierra. El me ha encargado que le edifique una Casa en Jerusalén, en Judá. Quien de entre vosotros pertenezca a su pueblo, ¡sea su Dios con él y suba!»
