1 Samuel 8

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as judges of Israel.	1 E invecchiato Samuel, intervenne ch' egli puose li figliuoli suoi giudici in Israel.
2 His eldest son was cal ed Joel and his second one, Abijah; they were judges at Beersheba.	2 Il suo primogenito ebbe nome Ioel, il secondo Abia; e questi erano giudici in Bersabee.
3 His sons did not fol ow his example but, seduced by the love of money, took bribes and gave biasedverdicts.	3 E non andarono li figliuoli suoi per le vie del suo padre; ma declinarono dopo l'avarizia, riceverono i doni, e pervertirono il giudicio.
4 The elders of Israel all assembled, went back to Samuel at Ramah, and said,	4 Onde raunati tutti li maggiori d' Israel per nazione, vennero (per nazione) a Samuel in Ramata.
5 'Look, you are old, and your sons are not fol owing your example. So give us a king to judge us, like theother nations.'	5 E dissero a lui: ecco che tu se' invecchiato, e i tuoi figliuoli non vanno per le vie tue; ordina a noi il re, il quale ci giudichi, sì come hanno tutte le altre nazioni.
6 Samuel thought that it was wrong of them to say, 'Let us have a king to judge us,' so he prayed toYahweh.	6 Le quali parole spiacquero negli occhii di Samuel, però che aveano detto: dacci il re il quale giudiehi noi. E orò Samuel a Dio.
7 But Yahweh said to Samuel, 'Obey the voice of the people in al that they say to you: it is not you theyhave rejected	7 E disse Iddio a Samuel: intendi la voce del popolo, in tutte quante quelle cose che ti dicono; imperò che non te scacciano, anzi scacciano me, acciò ch' io non regni sopra loro.
8 but me, not wishing me to reign over them any more. They are now doing to you exactly what they havedone to me since the day I brought them out of Egypt until now, deserting me and serving other gods.	8 Secondo tutte le opere loro dal dì ch' io gli trassi d'Egitto insino al dì d'oggi, sì come lasciarono me e servirono agli altrui idii, così fanno ancora a te.
9 So, do what they ask; only, you must give them a solemn warning, and must tell them what the kingwho is to reign over them will do.'	9 Ma intendi la voce loro; niente di meno protestagli, e dì loro dinanzi la ragione del re, che dee regnare sopra di loro.
10 Everything that Yahweh had said, Samuel then repeated to the people who were asking him for aking.	10 E Samuel disse tutte le parole di Dio al popolo il quale avea domandato il re a sè.
11 He said, 'This is what the king who is to reign over you wil do. He wil take your sons and direct themto his chariotry and cavalry, and they wil run in front of his chariot.	11 E disse questa si è la ragione del re, il quale sarà vostro signore: egli torrà gli vostri figliuoli, e porragli in sugli suoi carri, e farà cavalcatori e iscorridori delle sue quadrighe.
12 He wil use them as leaders of a thousand and leaders of fifty; he wil make them plough his fields andgather in his harvest and make his weapons of war and the gear for his chariots.	12 E farà a sè tribuni e centurioni, e aratori de' suoi campi, e mietitori delle sue biade, e fabri d'arme e delle sue carra.
13 He wil take your daughters as perfumers, cooks and bakers.	13 E le vostre figliuole farà a sè unguentarie, che faranno il fuoco e il pane.
14 He wil take the best of your fields, your vineyards and your olive groves and give them to his officials.	14 E i vostri campi (torrà per sè) e le vigne e gli ottimi oliveti torrà e darà a' servi suoi.
15 He wil tithe your crops and vineyards to provide for his courtiers and his officials.	15 E le vostre biade e le rendite delle vigne addecimerà, per darle agli eunuchi e a' servi suoi.
16 He wil take the best of your servants, men and women, of your oxen and your donkeys, and makethem work for him.	16 E li vostri servi e serve, ei giovani ottimi, e gli asini vi torrà, e porragli negli suoi lavorerii.
17 He wil tithe your flocks, and you yourselves wil become his slaves.	17 Le vostre gregge addecimerà, e voi sarete servi (in quello tempo).
18 When that day comes, you wil cry aloud because of the king you have chosen for yourselves, but onthat day Yahweh wil not hear you.'	18 Griderete in quello tempo dal cospetto del re vostro, il quale avrete eletto; e non vi esaudirà il vostro Iddio in quello dì, però che avete domandato a voi il re.
19 The people, however, refused to listen to Samuel. They said, 'No! We are determined to have a king,	19 Ma il popolo non volse intendere la voce di Samuel, anzi dissero: non sarà mai questo; noi volemo re sopra noi.
20 so that we can be like the other nations, with our own king to rule us and lead us and fight our battles.'	20 E saremo noi come sono tutte le altre genti; e giudicheracci il re nostro, e anderà dinanzi a noi, e combatterà le nostre battaglie per noi.
21 Samuel listened to al that the people had to say and repeated it in Yahweh's ear.	21 E Samuel intese tutte le parole del popolo, e tutte le disse nelle orecchie di Dio.
22 Yahweh then said to Samuel, 'Do as they ask and give them a king.' Samuel then said to theIsraelites, 'Go home, each of you, to his own town.'	22 E Iddio disse a Samuel: intendi la voce loro, e ordina (e fa) sopra loro il re. E Samuel disse agli uomini d' Israel: ciascuno torni alla sua città.
