2 Corinthians 2

1 I made up my mind, then, that my next visit to you would not be a painful one,	1 Crdinai questo appo me, di non venire a voi più con tristizia.
2 for if I cause you distress I am causing distress to my only possible source of joy.	2 Chè se io contristo voi, chi è quelli che mi consoli (e che mi faccia allegro) se non quelli che si contrista di me?
3 Indeed, I wrote as I did precisely to spare myself distress when I visited you, from the very people whoshould have given me joy, in the conviction that for al of you my joy was yours too.	3 E questo scrissi a voi, perchè io non abbia tristizia sopra tristizia, quando io verrò, di coloro de' quali io mi credea avere allegrezza; ma confidomi in tutti voi di questo, che il mio gaudio è di tutti voi.
4 I wrote to you in agony of mind, not meaning to cause you distress but to show you how very much loveI have for you.	4 E certo con molta tribulazione e angoscia del cuore scrissi a voi, e con molte lacrime, (e questo) non (vi manifesto) perchè voi vi contristiate, ma perchè voi cognosciate quanto amore io vi porto.
5 If anyone did cause distress, he caused it not to me, but -- not to exaggerate -- in some degree to al ofyou.	5 E se alcuno contristò me, in parte mi contristò, (e questo dico) perchè io non carichi tutti voi.
6 The punishment already imposed by the majority was quite enough for such a person;	6 Basta a colui, che di tale guisa è, le schernie e le beffe, le quali son fatte di lui da molti.
7 and now by contrast you should forgive and encourage him all the more, or he may be overwhelmed bythe extent of his distress.	7 Ma voglio che (da ora dinanzi) per contrario voi facciate consolazione a colui, perdonandoli a quello ch' è di questa guisa, acciò che forse per maggiore tristizia non si disperasse.
8 That is why I urge you to give your love towards him definite expression.	8 Per la qual cosa voglio che voi confermiate in lui la carità.
9 This was in fact my reason for writing, to test your quality and whether you are completely obedient.	9 E imperò scrissi a voi questo per conoscervi, se voi siete obbedienti in tutte le cose.
10 But if you forgive anybody, then I too forgive that person; and whatever I have forgiven, if there isanything I have forgiven, I have done it for your sake in Christ's presence,	10 Chè a colui cui voi perdonerete, e io perdono; e quello che perdono, sì perdono in persona di Cristo;
11 to avoid being outwitted by Satan, whose scheming we know only too well.	11 chè non siamo ingannati da Satana; chè no sapiemo bene li suoi pensieri.
12 When I came to Troas for the sake of the gospel of Christ and a door was opened for me there in theLord,	12 Ma venuto io nella città di Troade per la predicazione dell' evangelio di Cristo, la porta mi fu aperta nel Signore.
13 I had no relief from anxiety, not finding my brother Titus there, and I said goodbye to them and wenton to Macedonia.	13 Per tutto questo non ebbe riposo il mio spirito, imperò che io non trovai Tito, il mio fratello; ma salutati coloro (di quella città), sì andai in Macedonia.
14 But, thanks be to God who always gives us in Christ a part in his triumphal procession, and through usis spreading everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of himself.	14 E a Dio referiamo grazie, il quale sempre fa vincere noi in Iesù Cristo, e manifesta per noi l'odore della sua notizia in ogni luogo.
15 To God we are the fragrance of Christ, both among those who are being saved and among those whoare on the way to destruction;	15 Imperò che noi siamo buono odore di Cristo a Dio, in coloro che son salvi, e in coloro che periscono.
16 for these last, the smel of death leading to death, but for the first, the smel of life leading to life. Whois equal to such a task?	16 E certo, a cui siamo odore di morte a morire, e a cui siamo odore di vita a vivere. E a queste cose chi sarà così idoneo (e acconcio)?
17 At least we do not adulterate the word of God, as so many do, but it is in al purity, as envoys of Godand in God's presence, that we speak in Christ.	17 Chè noi non siamo come molti, che imbastardiscono la parola di Dio; ma predichiamo con purità ch' è Cristo, come dinanzi a Dio.
