1 At that time Jesus went through the cornfields one Sabbath day. His disciples were hungry and beganto pick ears of corn and eat them.	1 - In quel tempo Gesù passò attraverso un campo di grano in giorno di sabato, e i suoi discepoli, avendo fame, si misero a coglier spighe e a mangiarne.
2 The Pharisees noticed it and said to him, 'Look, your disciples are doing something that is forbiddenon the Sabbath.'	2 I Farisei, vedendo ciò, gli osservarono: «Guarda, i tuoi discepoli fan ciò che non è lecito fare in giorno di sabato».
3 But he said to them, 'Have you not read what David did when he and his fol owers were hungry-	3 Ma egli rispose loro: «Non avete letto quello che fece David quando egli e quelli ch'eran con lui ebbero fame?
4 how he went into the house of God and they ate the loaves of the offering although neither he nor hisfol owers were permitted to eat them, but only the priests?	4 Come egli entrò nella casa di Dio e mangiò i pani della proposizione, mentre nè a lui nè a coloro ch'eran con lui, ma solo ai sacerdoti, era lecito cibarsene?
5 Or again, have you not read in the Law that on the Sabbath day the Temple priests break the Sabbathwithout committing any fault?	5 E non avete letto nella legge che nei giorni di sabato i sacerdoti violano il sabato nel tempio senza commettere colpa?
6 Now here, I tel you, is something greater than the Temple.	6 Ora io vi dico che v'è qui Uno più grande del tempio.
7 And if you had understood the meaning of the words: Mercy is what pleases me, not sacrifice, youwould not have condemned the blameless.	7 Se voi comprendeste questa parola: - Io voglio misericordia e non sacrificio, - voi non avreste mai condannato degli innocenti;
8 For the Son of man is master of the Sabbath.'	8 Perchè il Figliuol dell'uomo è padrone anche del sabato».
9 He moved on from there and went to their synagogue;	9 Partito di là, venne nella loro sinagoga.
10 now a man was there with a withered hand. They asked him, 'Is it permitted to cure somebody on theSabbath day?' hoping for something to charge him with.	10 Trovavasi colà un uomo che aveva una mano secca, ed essi fecero a Gesù questa domanda: «È permesso guarire in giorno di sabato?».
11 But he said to them, 'If any one of you here had only one sheep and it fell down a hole on theSabbath day, would he not get hold of it and lift it out?	11 Egli rispose loro: «Chi è tra voi che avendo una pecora, se cade in pieno giorno di sabato in una fossa, non la prenda e non la tiri fuori?
12 Now a man is far more important than a sheep, so it fol ows that it is permitted on the Sabbath day todo good.'	12 Ora un uomo non val molto di più d'una pecora? Dunque è lecito fare del bene di sabato».
13 Then he said to the man, 'Stretch out your hand.' He stretched it out and his hand was restored, assound as the other one.	13 Allora disse a quell'uomo: «Stendi la tua mano». E colui la stese, ed essa diventò sana come l'altra.
14 At this the Pharisees went out and began to plot against him, discussing how to destroy him.	14 I Farisei, usciti dalla sinagoga, tennero consiglio contro di lui sul modo di toglierlo dal mondo.
15 Jesus knew this and withdrew from the district. Many fol owed him and he cured them al	15 Ma Gesù, saputolo, si allontanò da quei luoghi. Una gran folla gli andò dietro, ed egli li guarì tutti,
16 but warned them not to make him known.	16 ordinando loro di non manifestarlo,
17 This was to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah:	17 affinchè s'adempisse quant'era stato detto per bocca del profeta Isaia:
18 Look! My servant whom I have chosen, my beloved, in whom my soul delights, I wil send my Spiritupon him, and he wil present judgement to the nations;	18 «Ecco il mio servo, che io ho scelto; il mio diletto, in cui si compiace l'anima mia; porrò il mio Spirito sopra di lui ed egli annunzierà il giudizio alle nazioni.
19 he wil not brawl or cry out, his voice is not heard in the streets,	19 Non disputerà e non griderà e nessuno udrà la sua voce sulle piazze.
20 he wil not break the crushed reed, or snuff the faltering wick,	20 Non spezzerà la canna rotta e non spegnerà il lucignolo fumigante, finchè non abbia fatto trionfare la giustizia.
21 until he has made judgement victorious; in him the nations will put their hope.	21 E nel nome di lui le nazioni spereranno».
22 Then they brought to him a blind and dumb demoniac; and he cured him, so that the dumb man couldspeak and see.	22 Gli fu presentato allora un indemoniato cieco e muto; e lo guarì in modo che parlava e vedeva;
23 Al the people were astounded and said, 'Can this be the son of David?'	23 tanto che il popolo tutto, pieno di meraviglia diceva: «Non è costui il figlio di David?».
24 But when the Pharisees heard this they said, 'The man drives out devils only through Beelzebul, thechief of the devils.'	24 Ma i Farisei, udendo ciò, osservavano: «Costui non caccia i demoni se non per opera di Beelzebub, principe dei demoni».
25 Knowing what was in their minds he said to them, 'Every kingdom divided against itself is heading forruin; and no town, no household divided against itself can last.	25 Gesù, che conosceva i loro pensieri, disse loro: «Ogni regno diviso in se stesso, sarà devastato; e ogni città o casa divisa contro se stessa non potrà reggere.
26 Now if Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself; so how can his kingdom last?	26 Se dunque Satana scaccia Satana, egli è diviso contro se stesso; come dunque potrà durare il suo regno?
27 And if it is through Beelzebul that I drive devils out, through whom do your own experts drive themout? They shal be your judges, then.	27 E se io scaccio i demoni in nome di Beelzebub, in nome di chi li scacciano i vostri figliuoli? Per questo essi saranno i vostri giudici.
28 But if it is through the Spirit of God that I drive out devils, then be sure that the kingdom of God hascaught you unawares.	28 Se invece io scaccio i demoni per opera dello Spirito di Dio, vuol dire che il regno di Dio è giunto fino a voi.
29 'Or again, how can anyone make his way into a strong man's house and plunder his property unlesshe has first tied up the strong man? Only then can he plunder his house.	29 Oppure come può uno entrare nella casa dell'uomo forte e portargli via le masserizie, senza aver prima legato l'uomo forte? Allora soltanto potrà spogliargli la casa.
30 'Anyone who is not with me is against me, and anyone who does not gather in with me throws away.	30 Chi non è con me è contro di me, e chi non raccoglie con me disperde.
31 And so I tel you, every human sin and blasphemy will be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spiritwil not be forgiven.	31 Per questo vi dico: - Ogni peccato e ogni bestemmia sarà perdonata agli uomini; ma la bestemmia contro lo Spirito non sarà perdonata.
32 And anyone who says a word against the Son of man wil be forgiven; but no one who speaks againstthe Holy Spirit wil be forgiven either in this world or in the next.	32 E chiunque avrà parlato contro il Figliuol dell'uomo, sarà perdonato; ma a chiunque avrà parlato contro lo Spirito Santo, non sarà perdonato nè in questo secolo nè nel futuro. -
33 'Make a tree sound and its fruit wil be sound; make a tree rotten and its fruit will be rotten. For thetree can be told by its fruit.	33 O voi dite che l'albero è buono, e buono il suo frutto; o voi dite che l'albero è cattivo, e cattivo il suo frutto; perchè dal frutto si conosce l'albero.
34 You brood of vipers, how can your speech be good when you are evil? For words flow out of what fil sthe heart.	34 Razza di vipere, come potete dire cose buone, mentre siete malvagi? Perchè la bocca parla dalla pienezza del cuore.
35 Good people draw good things from their store of goodness; bad people draw bad things from theirstore of badness.	35 L'uomo buono cava fuori dal buon tesoro cose buone, e l'uomo malvagio cava fuori dal cattivo tesoro cose cattive.
36 So I tel you this, that for every unfounded word people utter they wil answer on Judgement Day,	36 Io vi dico che nel giorno del giudizio gli uomini dovranno render conto d'ogni parola oziosa, che avranno detta;
37 since it is by your words you wil be justified, and by your words condemned.'	37 poichè tu sarai giustificato delle tue parole e dalle tue parole sarai condannato».
38 Then some of the scribes and Pharisees spoke up. 'Master,' they said, 'we should like to see a sign from you.'	38 Allora alcuni Scribi e Farisei presero la parola per dirgli: «Maestro, noi vorremmo vedere da te qualche segno».
39 He replied, 'It is an evil and unfaithful generation that asks for a sign! The only sign it wil be given isthe sign of the prophet Jonah.	39 Egli rispose loro: «Questa generazione malvagia e adultera domanda un segno, ma nessun segno le sarà dato all'infuori di quello del profeta Giona.
40 For as Jonah remained in the belly of the sea-monster for three days and three nights, so wil the Sonof man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.	40 Perchè, come Giona stette tre giorni e tre notti nel ventre del pesce, così il Figliuol dell'uomo starà tre giorni e tre notti nel cuore della terra.
41 On Judgement Day the men of Nineveh will appear against this generation and they wil be itscondemnation, because when Jonah preached they repented; and look, there is something greater than Jonahhere.	41 Gli uomini di Ninive sorgeranno, nel dì del giudizio, contro questa generazione e la condanneranno; perch'essi han fatto penitenza alla predicazione di Giona; ed ecco qui Uno ch'è più di Giona.
42 On Judgement Day the Queen of the South wil appear against this generation and be itscondemnation, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and look, there issomething greater than Solomon here.	42 La regina del Mezzodì sorgerà, nel dì del giudizio, contro questa generazione e la condannerà; perchè essa venne dagli estremi confini della terra per udire la sapienza di Salomone; ed ecco qui Uno ch'è più di Salomone!
43 'When an unclean spirit goes out of someone it wanders through waterless country looking for aplace to rest, and cannot find one.	43 Quando lo spirito immondo è uscito da un uomo, se ne va per luoghi aridi in cerca di riposo, e non trovandolo,
44 Then it says, "I wil return to the home I came from." But on arrival, finding it unoccupied, swept andtidied,	44 dice: - Tornerò nella mia casa, donde sono uscito. - E quando vi giunge, la trova vuota, spazzata e ornata.
45 it then goes off and col ects seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and set uphouse there, and so that person ends up worse off than before. That is what will happen to this wickedgeneration.'	45 Allora va a prendere sette altri spiriti peggiori di lui, i quali v'entrano e vi si stabiliscono, al punto che la condizione ultima di quell'uomo diventa peggiore della prima. Così accadrà anche a questa generazione perversa».
46 He was still speaking to the crowds when suddenly his mother and his brothers were standingoutside and were anxious to have a word with him.	46 Mentre parlava ancora alle turbe, sua madre e i suoi fratelli, stavano lì fuori cercando di parlare con lui.
47 still speaking to the crowds when suddenly his mother and his brothers were standing outside andwere anxious to have a word with him.	47 Uno gli disse: «Ecco, tua madre e i tuoi fratelli son fuori e desiderano parlare con te».
48 But to the man who told him this Jesus replied, 'Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?'	48 Ma egli rispose, dicendo: «Chi è mia madre e chi sono i miei fratelli?».
49 And stretching out his hand towards his disciples he said, 'Here are my mother and my brothers.	49 E stendendo la mano verso i suoi discepoli disse: «Ecco mia madre e i miei fratelli.
50 Anyone who does the wil of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.'	50 Perchè chiunque fa la volontà del Padre mio, che è nè cieli, quegli mi è fratello e sorella e madre».
