Daniel 4

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 'I, Nebuchadnezzar, was living comfortably in my house, prosperously in my palace.	1 Io Nabucodonosor era quieto nella casa mia, e trionfante nel mio palazzo.
2 I had a dream; it appal ed me. Dread assailed me as I lay in bed; the visions that passed through myhead tormented me.	2 Vidi uno sogno, lo quale molto mi sbigottì; e le cogitazioni mie erano nel mio letto, e le visioni del mio capo mi conturbarono.
3 So I decreed that all the sages of Babylon be summoned to explain to me what the dream meant.	3 E avendo richiesti tutti li savii di Babilonia, acciò che mi dicessono la soluzione del mio sogno;
4 Magicians, soothsayers, Chaldaeans and exorcists came, and I told them what I had dreamt, but theycould not interpret it for me.	4 ed entrati tutti li divinatori, maghi e incantatori di Caldea a me, narrai lo mio sogno nel conspetto loro; e non fu mai chi me lo sapesse dire,
5 Daniel, renamed Belteshazzar after my own god, and in whom the spirit of the holy gods resides, thencame into my presence. I told him my dream:	5 insino a tanto che non venne lo eletto mio Daniele nel conspetto mio, a cui nome era Baltassar, secondo lo nome del mio Dio, lo quale hae in lui lo spirito delli dii santi; e parlai dinanzi a lui lo mio sogno (e dissi).
6 ' "Belteshazzar, chief of magicians," I said, "I know that the spirit of the holy gods resides in you and that no mystery puts you at a loss. This is the dream I have had; tel me what it means.	6 Baltassar principe delli divinatori, lo qual io so che hai in te lo spirito delli dii santi, e ogni sacramento non è a te impossibile (di conoscerlo); le visioni delli miei sogni, le quali io vidi, e la sua soluzione, nàrramele.
7 ' "The visions that passed through my head as I lay in bed were these: I saw a tree in the middle of theworld; it was very tal .	7 La visione del mio capo si è questa: io era nel mio letto, e vedea uno arboro nel mezzo del mondo, la cui altezza era massima.
8 The tree grew tal er and stronger, until its top reached the sky and it could be seen from the very endsof the earth.	8 Uno arboro grande e forte, sì che la sua altezza toccava il cielo; e suo aspetto spandeva insino alli termini di tutta la terra.
9 Its foliage was beautiful, its fruit abundant, in it was food for al . For the wild animals it provided shade,the birds of heaven nested in its branches, al living creatures found their food on it.	9 Le sue foglie erano bellissime, e li frutti suoi in grandissima quantità, ed erano in su questo arboro vivande per tutte creature; e sotto questo abitavano animali e bestie, e nelli rami suoi conversavano li uccelli del cielo; e di questo mangiavano tutti li animali del mondo.
10 ' "I watched the visions passing through my head as I lay in bed: Next, a Watchful One, a holy one,came down from heaven.	10 E vedea nella visione del mio capo sopra lo mio letto, ed ecco che del cielo apparea che venisse uno santo vigilante.
11 At the top of his voice he shouted: Cut the tree down, lop off its branches, strip off its leaves, throwaway its fruit; let the animals flee from its shelter and the birds from its branches.	11 E gridò con gran voce, e disse così: tagliate questo arbore, e li suoi rami; e levate le sue foglie, e disperdete li suoi frutti; fuggano le bestie che sono sotto lui, e li uccelli delli rami suoi.
12 But leave the stump with its roots in the ground, bound with hoops of iron and bronze, in the grass ofthe countryside. Let it be drenched by the dew of heaven and have its lot with the animals, eating grass!	12 Nientedimeno lasciate lo seme delle sue radici sopra della terra; e sia legato con una catena di ferro e di bronzo nelle erbe che sono fuori (per li campi), e sia bagnato della rugiada del cielo, e con le bestie salvatiche sia la parte sua nell' erbe della terra.
13 Let it cease to have a human heart, and be given the heart of a beast, and seven times shal passover him!	13 Lo cuore suo da umana natura si disparta, e dato li sia cuore di bestia; e sette tempi si mutino sopra di lui.
14 Such is the sentence proclaimed by the Watchers, the verdict announced by the holy ones- so thatevery living thing may learn that the Most High rules over human sovereignty; he confers it on whom he pleases,and raises the lowest of humankind.	14 Nella sentenza delli vigilanti è statuito, e la parola de' santi e la petizione, per sino che conoscano li viventi, che lo eccelso signoreggia nello regno degli uomini; e a chiunque vorrà, darà a lui quello, e constituirà sopra di lui uno uomo povero e di bassa condizione.
15 ' "This was the dream I had-I, Nebuchadnezzar the king. Now it is for you, Belteshazzar, to pronounceon its meaning, since not one of the sages in my kingdom has been able to interpret it for me; you, however, cando so, since the spirit of the holy gods resides in you." '	15 Questo è lo sogno ch' io Nabucodonosor re vidi; tu dunque, Baltassar, sanza dimora narrami la sua interpretazione; però che tutti li savii del regno mio non possono dirmi la soluzione; ma tu hai questo potere, però che lo spirito delli dii santi è in te.
16 Daniel, known as Belteshazzar, was confused for a time and upset. The king said, 'Belteshazzar, donot be upset at the dream and its meaning.' Belteshazzar answered, 'My lord, may the dream apply to those whohate you, and its meaning to your foes!	16 Allora Daniele, a cui nome era Baltassar, cominciò fra sè stesso pensare quasi una ora, e le sue cogitazioni lo conturbavano, (però che la esposizione dello sogno toccava alla persona dello re). E rispondendo lo re disse: Baltassar, lo sogno e la sua esposizione non ti conturbino. Rispose Baltassar, e disse signor mio, (lo) sogno sia a quegli che te ha avuto in odio, e la interpretazione alli tuoi nimici.
17 The tree you saw, so large and strong and tal that it reached the sky and could be seen throughoutthe world,	17 L'arbore lo quale tu hai veduto così sublime e robusto, l'altezza dello quale si estendeva sino al cielo, e lo aspetto suo si spandea in tutta la terra,
18 the tree with beautiful foliage and abundant fruit, with food for al in it, providing shade for the wildanimals, with the birds of heaven nesting in its branches:	18 e li suoi rami bellissimi, e li suoi frutti in grandissima moltitudine; ed eravi vivande per tutte le creature; sotto lei abitavano le bestie de' campi, e nelli rami suoi eravi li uccelli del cielo;
19 that tree is yourself, Your Majesty, for you have grown great and strong; your stature is now so greatthat it reaches the sky, and your empire extends to the ends of the earth.	19 tu sei quello, re, lo quale sei magnificato, e sei fortificato; e la tua grandezza è molto cresciuta, ed è pervenuta insino al cielo, e la tua potenza è ampliata insino alli termini di tutta la terra.
20 'And the Watchful One seen by the king, the holy one coming down from heaven and saying, "Cut thetree down and destroy it, but leave stump and roots in the ground, bound with hoops of iron and bronze in thegrass of the countryside; let it be drenched by the dew and have its lot with the wild animals until seven timeshave passed over it":	20 E quello che hae veduto il re, uno santo vigilante scendere del cielo, e dire: tagliate questo arbore, e dissipatelo, niente di meno lo seme della sua radice lasciatelo sopra la terra, e sia legato con catene di ferro e di bronzo di fuori nell' erbe, e sia bagnato dalla rugiada del cielo, e cogli animali bruti sia lo suo cibo, per sino a tanto che si commutino. sette tempi sopra di lui;
21 the meaning of this, Your Majesty, the verdict of the Most High passed on my lord the king, is this:	21 questa è la esposizione della sentenza dell' altissimo Iddio, la qual pervenne sopra lo signore mio re:
22 You wil be driven from human society and wil make your home with the wild animals, you will feed ongrass, as oxen do, you wil be drenched by the dew of heaven; seven times will pass over you until you havelearnt that the Most High rules over human sovereignty and confers it on whom he pleases.	22 Tu sarai cacciato dalla conversazione degli uomini, e con le bestie salvatiche sarà la tua abitazione, e mangerai fieno come bue, e la rugiada ti cascherà al dorso; e sette tempi si muteranno sopra te, per sino a tanto che sappi ch' egli è uno Signore eccelso, lo quale ha signoria sopra lo regno degli uomini, e in sua autoritade darlo a chi li piace.
23 'And the order, "Leave the stump and roots of the tree", means that your kingdom wil be kept for youuntil you come to understand that Heaven rules all.	23 Ma quello che comandò che fosse lasciato lo seme delle sue radici, cioè dell' arbore, significa che lo tuo regno ti rimarrà, dopo che tu avrai conosciuto ch' egli è potenza in cielo.
24 May it please the king to accept my advice: by upright actions break with your sins, break with yourcrimes by showing mercy to the poor, and so live long and peacefully.'	24 Per la qual cosa, re, piacciati lo mio consiglio, e li peccati tuoi con le elemosine ricompera, e le tue iniquitadi con le misericordie de' poveri; forse che Iddio ti perdonerà.
25 This al happened to King Nebuchadnezzar.	25 Tutte queste cose vennero sopra Nabucodonosor re.
26 At the end of twelve months, while strol ing on the roof of the royal palace in Babylon,	26 Dopo (questa visione per ispazio di) XII mesi, uno dì andava lui per la sala del suo palagio.
27 the king was saying, 'Great Babylon! Was it not built by me as a royal residence, by the force of mymight and for the majesty of my glory?'	27 Parlava (nel suo cuore con grandissimo spirito di superbia), e disse: non è questa Babilonia, quella città grande la quale io ho edificata in casa. del mio regno, nella potenza della mia fortezza, e nella gloria del mio ornato?
28 The words were not out of his mouth when a voice came down from heaven: 'Of you, KingNebuchadnezzar, it is decreed: the empire has been taken from you,	28 Ed essendo anco la parola nella bocca del re, discese una voce dal cielo: a te si dice, Nabucodonosor re, che tuo regno è passato (e tolto) da te.
29 you wil be driven from human society and wil make your home with the wild animals; you wil feed ongrass, as oxen do, and seven times wil pass over you until you have learnt that the Most High rules over humansovereignty and gives it to whom he pleases.'	29 E caccerannoti dalla abitazione degli uomini, e con le bestie salvatiche sarà la tua abitazione; tu mangerai fieno come bue, e sette tempi (cioè sette anni) si muteranno sopra di te, persino a tanto che tu conoscerai ch' egli è uno Signor eccelso, lo qual ha signoria sopra lo regno degli uomini, e dallo a cui li piace.
30 The words were immediately fulfilled: Nebuchadnezzar was driven from human society and ate grassas oxen do; he was drenched by the dew of heaven; his hair grew like an eagle's feathers, and his nails becamelike a bird's talons.	30 In quella ora istessa fu compiuta (e verificata) la parola detta sopra Nabucodonosor; e fu cacciato dagli uomini, e mangiò fieno come bue, e fu bagnato lo suo corpo dalla rugiada del cielo, sino che li suoi capelli furono cresciuti lunghi come sono le penne dell' aquila, e le sue unghie come le unghie degli uccelli.
31 'When the time was over, I, Nebuchad- nezzar, raised my eyes to heaven: my reason returned. And Iblessed the Most High, praising and glorifying him who lives for ever, for his empire is an everlasting empire, hiskingship endures, age after age.	31 Dopo adunque lo fine delli giorni ( ch' era statuito ch' io dovessi stare in questo modo) io Nabucodonosor levai li miei occhi al cielo, e lo mio sentimento fummi renduto; e benedissi allo Altissimo, e lodai lo vivente in sempiterno, e a lui diedi gloria; però che la sua potenza è potenza sempiterna, e lo suo regno dalla generazione alla generazione.
32 Al who dwel on earth count for nothing; as he thinks fit, he disposes the army of heaven and thosewho dwel on earth. No one can arrest his hand or ask him, "What have you done?"	32 E tutti li abitatori della terra per niente sono riputati appo lui; secondo la sua volontade. egli fa, così nelle virtù celesti, come negli abitatori della terra; e non è chi facci resistenza alla mano sua, e chi li dica: per che hai tu fatto questo?
33 'At that moment my reason returned and, for the honour of my royal state, my glory and splendourreturned too. My counsel ors and noblemen acclaimed me; I was restored to my throne, and to my pastgreatness even more was added.	33 In quel tempo lo mio sentimento tornò a me, (e fui restituito) e pervenni allo onore e ornamento del mio regno; e la figura mia mi fu restituita; li miei principi savii e li miei baroni e li miei magistrati mi ricercorono, e fui restituito nel mio regno; e la magnificenza mia mi fu molto più ampliata.
34 And now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, extol and glorify the King of heaven, al of whose deeds are true,al of whose ways are right, and who can humble those who walk in pride.'	34 Ora io Nabucodonosor lodo e magnifico e glorifico lo re del cielo; però che tutti i suoi fatti sono veri, e le sue vie giuste, e quegli che vanno pieni di ambizione puote umiliare.
