Sirach 13

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 Whoever touches pitch will be defiled, and anyone who associates with the proud wil come to be likethem.	1 Chi toccherae la pece si sozzerae da essa; e chi comunicherae collo superbo si vestirae di superbia.
2 Do not try to carry a burden too heavy for you, do not associate with someone more powerful andwealthy than yourself. Why put the clay pot next to the iron cauldron? It wil only break when they bang againsteach other.	2 Peso si leva adosso quello che comunica con più onesto di sè. Non sarai compagno con più ricco di te.
3 The rich does wrong and takes a high line; the poor is wronged and has to beg for pardon.	3 Che comunicherae il laveggio colla pentola? (però che) quando si stropiccieranno insieme, si romperanno.
4 If you are useful the rich will exploit you, if you go bankrupt he wil desert you.	4 Il ricco ingiustamente operoe, e fremerae; e lo povero offeso tacerae.
5 Are you well off? - he wil live with you, he will clean you out without a single qualm.	5 Se tu gli donerae, torrassi te; e se tu non avrai che dare, abbandonerà te.
6 Does he need you? - he will hoodwink you, smile at you and raise your hopes; he wil speak politely toyou and say, 'Is there anything you need?'	6 Se tu averai, mangerà teco e [ti] vuoterà de' tuoi beni; e non si dorrà de' tuoi danni.
7 He will make you feel smal at his dinner parties and, having cleaned you out two or three times over,wil end by laughing at you. Afterwards, when he sees you, he will avoid you and shake his head about you.	7 Se tu li sarai necessario, supplanterà te, e sorridendosi ti darae speranza, narrandoti i suoi beni, e dirae: che hai tu bisogno?
8 Take care you are not hoodwinked and thus humiliated through your own stupidity.	8 E confonderatti nelli cibi suoi, infino a tanto che tu l'aiuti, infino a due o tre volte; e alla perfine si farae beffe di te, e poi vedendoti t' abbandonerae, e scorlerae il capo suo verso di te.
9 When an influential person invites you, show reluctance, and he will press his invitation all the more.	9 Umìliati a Dio, e aspetta l' adiutorio suo.
10 Do not thrust yourself forward, in case you are pushed aside, but do not stand aloof, or you will beoverlooked.	10 E guarda che tu ingannato non ti avvilisci in pazzia.
11 Do not affect to treat him as an equal, do not trust his flow of words; since all this talking is expresslymeant to test you, under cover of geniality he wil be weighing you up.	11 Non essere umile nella sapienza tua, acciò che tu umiliato [non] sia condutto nella stoltezza.
12 Pitiless is anyone who retails gossip; he wil not spare you either blows or chains.	12 Chiamato da più potente di te, pàrtiti; però che questo più ti chiamerae a sè.
13 Be wary, take very great care, because you are walking with your own downfal .	13 Non essere importuno, e non essere sospinto; non si di lungi da lui, sì che ti dimentichi.
14	14 Non ritenere ugualmente con lui parlamento; non credere a molte parole di colui; però che di molto parlare egli ti tenterae, e sorridendoti domanderae delli tuoi secreti.
15 Every living thing loves its own sort, and every man his fel ow.	15 Il fiero animo di colui serberae le tue parole; e non ti risparmierae di domandare come tu facesti nella guerra, e come nella prigione.
16 Every creature mixes with its kind, and human beings stick to their own sort.	16 Guàrdati, e attendi diligentemente a quello che tu udirai; però che tu vai colla tua sovversione.
17 How can wolf and lamb agree? - Just so with sinner and devout.	17 Udendo tu quelle parole, sì come senza sonno attendi, e veglierai.
18 What peace can there be between hyena and dog? And what peace between rich and poor?	18 In tutta la vita tua ama Iddio, e invocalo in (ogni) tuo adiutorio.
19 Wild desert donkeys are the prey of lions; so too, the poor is the quarry of the rich.	19 Ciascuno animale ama suo simile; e così ogni uomo ama (eguali e) prossimali a sè.
20 The proud thinks humility abhorrent; so too, the rich abominates the poor.	20 Ogni carne si congiugnerae a simile di sè, e ogni uomo s' accompagnerae a suo simile.
21 When the rich stumbles he is supported by friends; when the poor fal s, his friends push him away.	21 Il lupo s' accompagnerae collo agnello alcune volte; così s' accompagnerae il peccatore col giusto.
22 When the rich slips, there are many hands to catch him, if he talks nonsense he is congratulated. Thepoor slips, and is blamed for it, he may talk good sense, but no room is made for him.	22 Che compagnia è quella del santo uomo col cattivo? Che buona parte è dal ricco al povero?
23 The rich speaks and everyone stops talking, and then they praise his discourse to the skies. The poorspeaks and people say, 'Who is this?' and if he stumbles, they trip him up yet more.	23 L'asino selvatico sì è caccia dello leone nel bosco; e così li poveri sono pastura delli ricchi.
24 Wealth is good where there is no sin, poverty is evil, the godless say.	24 E sì come la umilitade è una abbominazione al superbo, così è il povero una maledizione al ricco.
25 The heart moulds a person's expression whether for better or worse.	25 Il ricco commosso (e adirato) è aggrandito dalli suoi amici; lo umile, quando cade, è cacciato eziandio da' suoi conoscenti.
26 Happy heart, cheerful expression; but wearisome work, inventing proverbs.	26 Molti sono gli aiutatori al ricco, quando egli è ingannato; egli favelloe superbamente, e dissono ch' elli aveva ragione.
	27 Lo umile è ingannato, e oltre il danno è ripreso; parlò saviamente, e non fu ascoltato.
	28 Lo ricco parlò, e tutti tacerono; e alzarono la parola sua infino a' nuvoli.
	29 Il povero parlò, e dicono: chi è costui? e se elli offenderà, sovvertono colui.
	30 Buona è la ricchezza, alla quale non è peccato nella coscienza; e la povertà è malvagissima nella bocca dello cattivo uomo.
	31 Il cuore dell' uomo cambia la faccia di colui, in bene o sia in male.
	32 Malagevolmente e con fatica troverai vestigio di buono cuore e buono viso.
