1 The spirit of God then came on Azariah son of Oded;	1 Azaria figliuolo di Obed, fatto in lui lo spirito di Dio,
2 he went out to meet Asa and said, 'Listen to me, Asa, and all you in Judah and in Benjamin: Yahwehwil be with you so long as you are with him. If you seek him, he will let you find him; but if you desert him, he wildesert you.	2 uscio incontro ad Asa, e disse a lui: uditemi, Asa e tutto Giuda e Beniamin: il Signore è con voi, però che voi siete istati con lui; se voi il domanderete, troveretelo; e se voi lascerete lui, egli lascerà voi.
3 For a long time Israel did not have the true God or a teacher-priest or a law,	3 E passeranno molti die in Israel senza il vero Iddio, e senza maestro (prete ovvero) sacerdote, senza legge.
4 but when in their distress they turned to Yahweh, God of Israel, and sought him, he let them find him.	4 E ritornati loro nella sua angoscia al Signore Iddio d' Israel, domandoro lui, e trovaronlo.
5 In those times there was no security for people as they went about their business, but great unrestaffecting the inhabitants of all countries,	5 In quello tempo non sarà pace d' entrare e d' uscire, ma saranno paure e terrori dintorno in tutti gli abitatori della terra.
6 nation being crushed by nation and city by city, since God caused confusion among them by everykind of distress.	6 Però che combatterà gente contra gente, e città contra città; però che il Signore gli conturberà in ogni angoscia.
7 So be strong, do not be discouraged, for your deeds wil be rewarded.'	7 Però voi vi confortate, e le vostre mani non si dissolvano; chè la vostra opera avrà mercede.
8 When Asa heard these words and the prophecy, he took courage and removed the abominable idolsthroughout the land of Judah and Benjamin as wel as from the towns which he had captured in the highlands ofEphraim, and repaired the altar of Yahweh which stood in front of the portico of Yahweh.	8 La quale cosa udita Asa, cioè le parole e la profezia di Azaria figliuolo di Obed profeta, confortossi, e tolse via gl' idoli di tutta la terra di Giuda e di Beniamin e delle città ch' egli avea prese del monte d'Efraim; e consecroe l' altare del Signore, il qual era dinanzi al portico del Signore.
9 He summoned al Judah and Benjamin as wel as those Ephraimites, Manassehites and Simeoniteswho had settled with them -- for a great many people from Israel had gone over to Asa when they saw thatYahweh his God was with him.	9 E congregò tutto Giuda e Beniamin, e di quelli ch' erano forestieri di Efraim e di Manasse e di Simeone; però che molti erano rifuggiti a lui di quelli d' Israel, vcggendo che il Signore Iddio era con esso lui.
10 They assembled in Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa's reign,	10 E venuti in Ierusalem nel terzo mese, nel XV anno del regno di Asa,
11 that day sacrificing to Yahweh seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep from the booty whichthey had brought back.	11 offerirono a Dio in quello di degli ornamenti, e della preda la quale aveano menata, settecento buoi, e VII milia montoni.
12 They then made a covenant to seek Yahweh, God of their ancestors, with al their heart and soul;	12 Ed entrò, sì come era usanza, a rifermare il patto, cioè ch' egli seguitassono il Signore Iddio de' padri loro con tutto il cuore e con tutta l'anima loro.
13 anyone who would not seek Yahweh, God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether high or low, manor woman.	13 E disse qualunque non seguiterà il Signore Iddio d' Israel, sia morto, dal minore insino al maggiore, dall' uomo insino alla femina.
14 They pledged their oath to Yahweh in ringing tones, with shouts of joy, to the sound of trumpet andhorn;	14 E giurarono a Dio con grande voce, con canto e suono di tromba e di corno,
15 al Judah rejoiced over the oath, for they had sworn it wholeheartedly, and sought him so earnestlythat he al owed them to find him; Yahweh gave them peace all round.	15 tutti quelli ch' erano in Giuda con prieghi; e con tutto loro cuore giurarono, e in tutta la loro volontade cercarono Iddio, e trovaronlo; e Iddio li prestò riposo dintorno.
16 King Asa even deprived his mother Maacah of the dignity of Great Lady for having made anobscenity for Asherah; Asa cut down her obscenity, smashed it and burnt it in the ravine of the Kidron.	16 E Asa depose dello imperio Maaca sua madre, però che avea fatto nel bosco l'idolo di Priapo; il quale egli disfece tutto, e arselo nel fiume Cedron.
17 Though the high places were not abolished in Israel, Asa's heart was loyal throughout his life.	17 E furono lasciati in Israel tutti i luoghi alti; ed era il cuore d' Asa perfetto tutti gli dì suoi.
18 He deposited his father's and his own dedicated gifts of silver, gold and sacred vessels, in theTemple of Yahweh.	18 E quelle cose che avea voluto il padre suo, egli diede nel tempio del Signore, oro e ariento, e diverse massarizie di vasi.
19 Up to the thirty-fifth year of Asa's reign there was no war.	19 E non ebbe guerra insino a' trenta anni del regno di Asa.
