1 When Rehoboam had consolidated the kingdom and become strong, he, and al Israel with him,abandoned the Law of Yahweh;	1 Ed essendo fortificato il regno di Roboam e confortato, abbandonò la legge del Signore, e tutto Israel con esso lui.
2 and thus it happened that in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt marched onJerusalem, because they had been unfaithful to Yahweh,	2 Nel quinto anno del regno di Roboam ascendè Sesac re d'Egitto in Ierusalem; però che aveano peccato al Signore;
3 with twelve hundred chariots and sixty thousand cavalry and countless hordes of Libyans, Sukkiimand Cushites who came from Egypt with him.	3 con mille ducento carra, e con LX migliara di cavalieri; e del popolo, il quale era andato con lui d' Egitto, non era numero, cioè gente di Libia e Trogloditi e di Etiopia.
4 They captured the fortified towns of Judah and reached Jerusalem.	4 E prese le città fortissime in Giuda, e vènnessene insino in Ierusalem.
5 The prophet Shemaiah then came to Rehoboam and the generals of Judah, who had fal en back onJerusalem before Shishak's advance, and said to them, 'Yahweh says this, "You have abandoned me and so Ihave abandoned you into Shishak's clutches." '	5 E Semeia profeta entrò a Roboam e a' prìncipi di Giuda, i quali erano congregati in Ierusalem, fuggendo Sesac, e disse loro: questo dice il Signore : voi avete lasciato me, e io hoe lasciato voi nelle mani di Sesac.
6 At this, the Israelite generals and the king humbled themselves and said, 'Yahweh is just!'	6 E isbigottiti il re e i principi, dissero: il Signore è giusto.
7 When Yahweh saw that they had humbled themselves, the word of Yahweh came to Shemaiah asfol ows, 'They have humbled themselves. I shal not destroy them but shall grant them some degree ofdeliverance. My retribution wil not be poured out on Jerusalem by means of Shishak;	7 E veggendo il Signore ch' erano umiliati, fu fatta la parola di Dio a Semeia (profeta), e disse: però ch' egli sono umiliati, non gli dissiperò, ma darò loro uno poco d' aiuto, e non istillarò il mio furore sopra Ierusalem per mano di Sesac.
8 they are nonetheless to become his slaves, so that they may learn the difference between serving meand serving kings of other countries.'	8 Ma pure serviranno a lui, acciò che sappiano la distanza di servire a me e (a lui, ovvero) a' regni delle terre.
9 So Shishak king of Egypt advanced on Jerusalem and carried off the treasures of the Temple and thetreasures of the royal palace. He took everything away, including the golden shields which Solomon had made.	9 E partissi Sesac di Ierusalem, portandosi il tesoro della casa di Dio e della casa del re; e portò seco tutti li scudi dell' auro, i quali avea fatti Salomone.
10 To replace these, King Rehoboam made bronze shields, entrusting them to the commanders of theguard who guarded the king's palace gate.	10 Per li quali fece il re iscudi d'acciaio, e diedegli a principi degli scudieri, i quali guardavano il vestibolo del palazzo.
11 Whenever the king went to the Temple of Yahweh, the guards would come out carrying them,returning them to the guardroom afterwards.	11 E quando il re entrava nella casa del Signore, andavano i scudieri e toglievangli, e poi gli portavano all' armamentario suo.
12 Because King Rehoboam had humbled himself, the retribution of Yahweh turned away from him soas not to destroy him completely; and there were also some good features in Judah.	12 Ma però che loro si umiliarono, l' ira del Signore cessoe, e non furono in tutto disfatti; però che in Giuda si ritrovarono buone operazioni.
13 Thus he was able to strengthen his position in Jerusalem and continue as king; for Rehoboam wasforty-one years old when he came to the throne and remained king for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the citychosen by Yahweh from al the tribes of Israel to put his name there. His mother's name was Naamah theAmmonite.	13 E fortificossi il re Roboam in Ierusalem e regnò; e quando incominciò a regnare era di XLI anno, e XVII anni regnò in Ierusalem, città la quale elesse il Signore a confermare il suo nome ivi, di tutte le tribù d' Israel. Il nome della sua madre fu Naama di Amman.
14 But he did wrong in not setting his heart on seeking Yahweh.	14 E fece male, e non apparecchioe il suo cuore a domandare il Signore.
15 The history of Rehoboam, from first to last, is this not all written down in the records of Shemaiah theprophet and of Iddo the seer? Warfare between Rehoboam and Jeroboam went on throughout the period.	15 E l'opere di Roboam, prime e ultime, sono scritte nelli libri di Semeia profeta, e di Addo vidente, e ivi sono esposte diligentemente; e combatterono tra loro Roboam e Ieroboam continuamente.
16 When Rehoboam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Abijahsucceeded him.	16 E dormi Roboam co' padri suoi, e fu seppellito nella città di David. E regnò Abia suo figliuolo per lui.
