1 At the turn of the year, at the time when kings go campaigning, David sent Joab and with him hisguards and al Israel. They massacred the Ammonites and laid siege to Rabbah-of-the-Ammonites. David,however, remained in Jerusalem.	1 Fu fatto dopo queste cose, rivolto l'anno, in quel tempo che i re sogliono uscire alle battaglie, mandò David Ioab, e i suoi servi con esso lui e tutto Israel; e guastarono li figliuoli di Ammon, e assediarono Rabba. E David rimase in Ierusalem.
2 It happened towards evening when David had got up from resting and was strol ing on the palace roof,that from the roof he saw a woman bathing; the woman was very beautiful.	2 E facendosi queste cose, intervenne che David dopo mezzodì si levò di letto, e andava per lo palco della casa regale; e vidde una femina dirimpetto, che si lavava nel palco della casa sua; ed era la femina molto bella.
3 David made enquiries about this woman and was told, 'Why, that is Bathsheba daughter of Eliam andwife of Uriah the Hittite.'	3 E mandò il re a sapere chi la fosse; e fugli detto, ch' ella era Bersabee figliuola di Eliam, moglie di Uria Eteo.
4 David then sent messengers to fetch her. She came to him, and he lay with her, just after she hadpurified herself from her period. She then went home again.	4 E mandò David messaggi, e tolsela; la quale entrata a lui, dormì con esso lui; e immantinente fu santificata dalla sua immondizia.
5 The woman conceived and sent word to David, 'I am pregnant.'	5 E ritornò in casa gravida. E mandò lo messo a David, com3 ella era gravida di lui.
6 David then sent word to Joab, 'Send me Uriah the Hittite,' whereupon Joab sent Uriah to David.	6 E mandò a dire David a Ioab: mandami (incontanente) Uria Eteo. E Ioab il mandò.
7 When Uriah reached him, David asked how Joab was and how the army was and how the war wasgoing.	7 E venne Uria a David; e domandò David come si portava Ioab e tutto il popolo, e come si ordinavano bene le battaglie, (e Uria disse: tutte le cose vanno bene).
8 David then said to Uriah, 'Go down to your house and wash your feet.' Uriah left the palace and wasfol owed by a present from the king's table.	8 E David disse ad Uria: va in casa tua, e làvati i piedi. E Uria uscì della casa del re; e incontanente dopo lui andò il cibo del re.
9 Uriah, however, slept at the palace gate with al his master's bodyguard and did not go down to hishouse.	9 E Uria dormì dinanzi alla porta della casa del re con esso gli altri servi del suo signore, e non andò alla casa sua.
10 This was reported to David; 'Uriah', they said 'has not gone down to his house.' So David askedUriah, 'Haven't you just arrived from the journey? Why didn't you go down to your house?'	10 E fu detto a David, come Uria non era andato a casa sua. E disse David ad Uria: non sei tu venuto da lungo cammino? chè non discendesti in casa tua?
11 To which Uriah replied, 'The ark, Israel and Judah are lodged in huts; my master Joab and my lord'sguards are camping in the open. Am I to go to my house, then, and eat and drink and sleep with my wife? AsYahweh lives, and as you yourself live, I shal do no such thing!'	11 E disse Urìa a David: l'arca di Dio e Israel e Giuda abitano in padiglioni, e il mio signore Ioab e i servi del mio signore giaceno sopra la terra; e io entrerò in casa mia a bere e a mangiare e a dormire con la donna mia? per la salute tua, e per la salute dell' anima tua, che questa cosa non farò io.
12 David then said to Uriah, 'Stay on here today; tomorrow I shal send you off.' So Uriah stayed thatday in Jerusalem.	12 E disse David: or istà ancora oggi qui, e domani te ne manderò. E istette Urìa in Ierusalem tutto quel dì e l'altro.
13 The next day, David invited him to eat and drink in his presence and made him drunk. In the evening,Uriah went out and bedded down with his master's bodyguard, but did not go down to his house.	13 E chiamollo David, che mangiasse e bevesse nel suo cospetto, e inebriollo; il quale uscito al vespro, simigliantemente dormio nel suo letto co' servi del suo signore (David), e non descendeo in casa sua.
14 Next morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it by Uriah.	14 E fatta la mattina, iscrisse David una lettera a Ioab; e mandolla per mano d'Urìa,
15 In the letter he wrote, 'Put Uriah out in front where the fighting is fiercest and then fal back, so thathe gets wounded and kil ed.'	15 iscrivendo, che fosse posto dirimpetto alla battaglia; dove ch' è più dura, fosse lasciato, sì che morisse.
16 Joab, then besieging the city, stationed Uriah at a point where he knew that there would be toughfighters.	16 E Ioab, assediando la città, puose Uria in quel luogo dove che sapea ch' erano uomini fortissimi.
17 The people of the city sallied out and engaged Joab; there were casualties in the army, amongDavid's guards, and Uriah the Hittite was kil ed as wel .	17 E usciti uomini della città, combatteano contro a Ioab, e moriro del popolo di David, e anche vi morì Uria Eteo.
18 Joab sent David a ful account of the battle.	18 Onde che Ioab mandò a dire a David tutto il fatto della battaglia.
19 To the messenger he gave this order: 'When you have finished tel ing the king al about the battle,	19 E comandò al messo, e disse quando tu averai compiuta tutta la novella della battaglia al re,
20 if the king's anger is aroused and he says, "Why did you go near the town to give battle? Didn't youknow that they would shoot from the ramparts?	20 tu il vederai turbare, e dirae: perchè andaste voi al muro a combattere? e non sapevate voi, che di sopra i muri si mandano molti dardi?
21 Who kil ed Abimelech son of Jerubbaal? Wasn't it a woman who dropped a millstone on him from theramparts, causing his death at Thebez? Why did you go near the ramparts?" you are to say, "Your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead too." '	21 E chi uccise Abimelec figliuolo di Ierobaal? e non fu ella una femina, la quale gittò uno pezzo di macina adosso del muro, e ucciselo in Tabes? Perchè andaste al muro? Dirai: anco il tuo servo Uria Eteo v'è morto.
22 So the messenger set off and, on his arrival, told David everything that Joab had instructed him tosay. David flew into a rage with Joab and said to the messenger, 'Why did you go near the ramparts? Who kil edAbimelech son of Jerubbaal? Wasn't it a woman who dropped a millstone on him from the ramparts, causing hisdeath at Thebez? Why did you go near the ramparts?'	22 E andossene il messo, e vènnesene a David, e narrogli tutte le cose che Ioab gli avea imposte.
23 The messenger replied to David, 'Their men had won an initial advantage and then came out toengage us in the open. We then drove them back into the gateway,	23 E disse il messo a David: gli uomini della città uscirono a campo, e poterono più di noi; e noi, fatto impeto, rincalzammogli e vennimo insino al muro della città.
24 but the archers shot at your retainers from the ramparts; some of the king's retainers lost their lives,and your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead too.'	24 E gli arcadori mandarono le saette di sopra il muro a' servi tuoi; e morironvi de' servi del re, e anco v'è morto il tuo servo Uria.
25 David then said to the messenger, 'Say this to Joab, "Do not take the matter to heart; the sworddevours now one and now another. Attack the town in greater force and destroy it." That wil encourage him.'	25 E disse David al messo: dirai così a Ioab: non ti rompa questa cosa, però che le battaglie intervengono per diversi modi, e ora muore quegli e ora quegli altri; conforta i tuoi combattitori verso la città, acciò che tu la disfacci, e ammoniscigli.
26 When Uriah's wife heard that her husband Uriah was dead, she mourned for her husband.	26 E intese la moglie d'Uria, ch' era morto il suo marito, e pianselo.
27 When the period of mourning was over, David sent to have her brought to his house; she became hiswife and bore him a son. But what David had done displeased Yahweh.	27 E compiuto il pianto, mandò David (e tolsela), e menolla in casa sua, e fu fatta sua moglie. e parturigli uno figliuolo: e dispiacque a Dio quello che David fece.
