1 Balaam, however, perceiving that the LORD was pleased to bless Israel, did not go aside as before to seek omens, but turned his gaze toward the desert.	1 Come Balaam vide che a Dio piacesse ch' egli benedicesse Israel, non andò più dov'era andato prima ad auguriare, ma volse sè dinanzi al deserto.
2 When he raised his eyes and saw Israel encamped, tribe by tribe, the spirit of God came upon him,	2 E levando gli occhi al popolo d'Israel, videli con le loro tende, ciascheduno nella tribù (della gente) sua; e ripieno dello spirito di Dio,
3 and he gave voice to his oracle: The utterance of Balaam, son of Beor, the utterance of the man whose eye is true,	3 incominciò a parlare, e disse: Balaam, figliuolo di Beor; disse l'uomo a cui otturato è l'occhio;
4 The utterance of one who hears what God says, and knows what the Most High knows, Of one who sees what the Almighty sees, enraptured, and with eyes unveiled:	4 disse lo uditore de sermoni di Dio, lo quale ha veduto la visione dell' Onnipotente, lo quale cade, e così sono aperti li occhii suoi:
5 How goodly are your tents, O Jacob; your encampments, O Israel!	5 Perciò che i tuoi tabernacoli sono belli, Iacob, e le tue tende, Israel!
6 They are like gardens beside a stream, like the cedars planted by the LORD.	6 Come sono le valli inarborate, e gli orti che sono presso ai fiumi, inacquati, e come i tabernacoli che puose Iddio, come i cedri che sono presso all'acqua!
7 His wells shall yield free-flowing waters, he shall have the sea within reach; His king shall rise higher than. . . . and his royalty shall be exalted.	7 E isparge l'acqua colla secchia sua, e lo seme suo sarà in grande abbondanza. E sarà rapito per cagione di Agag il re suo, e saragli preso lo regno suo.
8 It is God who brought him out of Egypt, a wild bull of towering might. He shall devour the nations like grass, their bones he shall strip bare.	8 Iddio lo menò d'Egitto, la cui fortezza è simile all'unicorno; la gente divorerà lo esercito Suo; l'ossa loro romperanno, e la carne foreranno con saette.
9 He lies crouching like a lion, or like a lioness; who shall arouse him? Blessed is he who blesses you, and cursed is he who curses you!	9 Riposandosi dormirà come leone, e come leonessa, che (per paura) niuno sarà auso di suscitarla. Chi sarae colui che ti benedicerà, sarae benedetto; e chi ti maledicerà, nella maledizione sarà maledetto.
10 Balak beat his palms together in a blaze of anger at Balaam and said to him, "It was to curse my foes that I summoned you here; yet three times now you have even blessed them instead!	10 Adirossi Balac, e minacciando colle mani, disse: io ti feci venire a maledicere li miei nemici, della qual cosa hae fatto lo contrario; tre volte tu li hai benedetti.
11 Be off at once, then, to your home. I promised to reward you richly, but the LORD has withheld the reward from you!"	11 Perciò tornati al luogo tuo. Io m' avea posto in core di onorarti grandemente; ma Iddio ti hae privato di questo onore.
12 Balaam replied to Balak, "Did I not warn the very messengers whom you sent to me,	12 Rispuose Balaam a Balac: non lo dissi io ai tuoi messi, che tu mi mandasti,
13 'Even if Balak gave me his house full of silver and gold, I could not of my own accord to anything, good or evil, contrary to the command of the LORD'? Whatever the LORD says I must repeat.	13 che se tu mi dessi tutte le tue case, piene d'oro e d'ariento, io non posso preterire il sermone del mio Signore Iddio, però ch' io non parlo alcuna cosa, in bene ovver in male, salvo quello parlare che il mio Signor Iddio m’ha detto?
14 "But now that I am about to go to my own people, let me first warn you what this people will do to your people in the days to come."	14 Nondimeno vieni al popolo mio; e io ti darò consiglio, che faccia lo popolo tuo a questo popolo nell'ultimo tempo.
15 Then Balaam gave voice to his oracle: The utterance of Balaam, son of Beor, the utterance of the man whose eye is true,	15 Incominciò a parlare, e ridisse un'altra volta: disse Balaam figliuolo di Beor; disse l'uomo a cui era iscurato l'occhio;
16 The utterance of one who hears what God says, and knows what the Most High knows, Of one who sees what the Almighty sees, enraptured and with eyes unveiled.	16 disse l'uditore de' sermoni di Dio, che cognobbe la dottrina dell' altissimo, e le visioni dell' Onnipotente vede, e cadendo hae aperto gli occhii:
17 I see him, though not now; I behold him, though not near: A star shall advance from Jacob, and a staff shall rise from Israel, That shall smite the brows of Moab, and the skulls of all the Shuthites,	17 vederollo, ma non testè; vederollo, ma non appresso. Egli nascerà una stella di Iacob, e leverassi una virga d'Israel, e percoterà i duchi di Moab, e guasterà i duchi di Moab, e guasterà ogni figliuolo di Set.
18 Till Edom is dispossessed, and no fugitive is left in Seir. Israel shall do valiantly,	18 E sarà Idumea sua possessione: la eredità di Seir farà luogo a' suoi nemici: Israel adopererà fortemente.
19 and Jacob shall overcome his foes.	19 Di lacob sarà chi signoreggi; e verranno meno le reliquie della città.
20 Upon seeing Amalek, Balaam gave voice to his oracle: First of the peoples was Amalek, but his end is to perish forever.	20 Vedendo Amalec, incominciò a parlare, e disse: principio è della gente Amalec, li cui confini si perderanno.
21 Upon seeing the Kenites, he gave voice to his oracle: Your abode is enduring, O smith, and your nest is set on a cliff;	21 Vedendo Cineo, incominciò a parlare, e disse: robusta è la tua abitazione; ma se tu ponessi nella pietra lo tuo nido,
22 Yet destined for burning-- even as I watch--are your inhabitants.	22 e fossi eletto dalla gente di Cin, (e istessi), quanto potresti istare? Assur ti piglierà.
23 Upon seeing. . . . he gave voice to his oracle: Alas, who shall survive of Ishmael,	23 E anco parlò più, e disse: oimè, chi sarà vincitore, quando Iddio farà queste cose?
24 to deliver his people from the hands of the Kittim? When they have conquered Asshur and conquered Eber, He too shall perish forever.	24 Loro verranno con le navi da tre remi d'Italia, e vinceranno gli Assirii, guasteranno gli Ebrei, e all'ultimo loro periranno.
25 Then Balaam set out on his journey home; and Balak also went his way.	25 Levossi Balaam, e tornossi nel luogo suo; e Balac si tornò per quella via ch' era venuto.
