ελεησον ημας δεσποτα ο θεος παντων και επιβλεψον και επιβαλε τον φοβον σου επι παντα τα εθνη | 1 Take pity on us, Master, Lord of the universe, look at us, spread fear of yourself throughout al othernations. |
επαρον την χειρα σου επι εθνη αλλοτρια και ιδετωσαν την δυναστειαν σου | 2 Raise your hand against the foreign nations and let them see your might. |
ωσπερ ενωπιον αυτων ηγιασθης εν ημιν ουτως ενωπιον ημων μεγαλυνθειης εν αυτοις | 3 As, in their sight, you have proved yourself holy to us, so now, in our sight, prove yourself great to them. |
και επιγνωτωσαν σε καθαπερ και ημεις επεγνωμεν οτι ουκ εστιν θεος πλην σου κυριε | 4 Let them acknowledge you, just as we have acknowledged that there is no God but you, Lord. |
εγκαινισον σημεια και αλλοιωσον θαυμασια δοξασον χειρα και βραχιονα δεξιον | 5 Send new portents, do fresh wonders, win glory for your hand and your right arm. |
εγειρον θυμον και εκχεον οργην εξαρον αντιδικον και εκτριψον εχθρον | 6 Rouse your fury, pour out your rage, destroy the opponent, annihilate the enemy. |
σπευσον καιρον και μνησθητι ορκισμου και εκδιηγησασθωσαν τα μεγαλεια σου | 7 Hasten the day, remember the oath, and let people tell of your mighty deeds. |
εν οργη πυρος καταβρωθητω ο σωζομενος και οι κακουντες τον λαον σου ευροισαν απωλειαν | 8 Let fiery wrath swal ow up the survivor, and destruction overtake those who oppress your people. |
συντριψον κεφαλας αρχοντων εχθρων λεγοντων ουκ εστιν πλην ημων | 9 Crush the heads of hostile rulers who say, 'There is no one else but us!' |
συναγαγε πασας φυλας ιακωβ και κατακληρονομησον αυτους καθως απ' αρχης | 10 Gather together all the tribes of Jacob, restore them their heritage as at the beginning. |
ελεησον λαον κυριε κεκλημενον επ' ονοματι σου και ισραηλ ον πρωτογονω ωμοιωσας | 11 Take pity, Lord, on the people cal ed by your name, on Israel whom you have made your first-born. |
οικτιρησον πολιν αγιασματος σου ιερουσαλημ τοπον καταπαυματος σου | 12 Have compassion on your holy city, on Jerusalem, the place where you rest. |
πλησον σιων αρεταλογιας σου και απο της δοξης σου τον λαον σου | 13 Fil Zion with your praises and your sanctuary with your glory. |
δος μαρτυριον τοις εν αρχη κτισμασιν σου και εγειρον προφητειας τας επ' ονοματι σου | 14 Vindicate those whom you created first, fulfil what has been prophesied in your name. |
δος μισθον τοις υπομενουσιν σε και οι προφηται σου εμπιστευθητωσαν | 15 Give those who wait for you their reward, let your prophets be proved true. |
εισακουσον κυριε δεησεως των ικετων σου κατα την ευλογιαν ααρων περι του λαου σου | 16 Grant, Lord, the prayer of your servants, in the terms of Aaron's blessing on your people, |
και γνωσονται παντες οι επι της γης οτι κυριος ει ο θεος των αιωνων | 17 so that al the earth's inhabitants may acknowledge that you are the Lord, the everlasting God. |
παν βρωμα φαγεται κοιλια εστιν δε βρωμα βρωματος καλλιον | 18 The stomach takes in all kinds of food, but some foods are better than others. |
φαρυγξ γευεται βρωματα θηρας ουτως καρδια συνετη λογους ψευδεις | 19 As the palate discerns the flavour of game, so a shrewd listener detects lying words. |
καρδια στρεβλη δωσει λυπην και ανθρωπος πολυπειρος ανταποδωσει αυτω | 20 A perverse character causes depression in others; it needs experience to know how to repay such aone. |
παντα αρρενα επιδεξεται γυνη εστιν δε θυγατηρ θυγατρος κρεισσων | 21 A woman wil accept any husband, but some daughters are better than others. |
καλλος γυναικος ιλαρυνει προσωπον και υπερ πασαν επιθυμιαν ανθρωπου υπεραγει | 22 A woman's beauty delights the beholder, a man likes nothing better. |
ει εστιν επι γλωσσης αυτης ελεος και πραυτης ουκ εστιν ο ανηρ αυτης καθ' υιους ανθρωπων | 23 If her tongue is kind and gentle, her husband is the happiest of men. |
ο κτωμενος γυναικα εναρχεται κτησεως βοηθον κατ' αυτον και στυλον αναπαυσεως | 24 The man who takes a wife has the makings of a fortune, a helper to match himself, a pil ar of support. |
ου ουκ εστιν φραγμος διαρπαγησεται κτημα και ου ουκ εστιν γυνη στεναξει πλανωμενος | 25 When property has no fence, it is open to plunder, when a man has no wife, he is aimless andquerulous. |
τις γαρ πιστευσει ευζωνω ληστη αφαλλομενω εκ πολεως εις πολιν | 26 Wil anyone trust an armed thief who flits from town to town? |
ουτως ανθρωπω μη εχοντι νοσσιαν και καταλυοντι ου εαν οψιση | 27 So it is with the man who has no nest, and lodges wherever night overtakes him. |
