KING JAMES BIBLENEW AMERICAN BIBLE
I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who willjudge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingly power:
Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.2 proclaim the word; be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient; convince, reprimand, encourage through all patience and teaching.
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;3 For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine but, following their own desires and insatiable curiosity, will accumulate teachers
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.4 and will stop listening to the truth and will be diverted to myths.
But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.5 But you, be self-possessed in all circumstances; put up with hardship; perform the work of an evangelist; fulfill your ministry.
For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.6 For I am already being poured out like a libation, and the time of my departure is at hand.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:7 I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.
Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.8 From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance.
Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me:9 Try to join me soon,
For Demas hath forsaken me, having loved this present world, and is departed unto Thessalonica; Crescens to Galatia, Titus unto Dalmatia.10 for Demas, enamored of the present world, deserted me and went to Thessalonica, Crescens to Galatia, and Titus to Dalmatia.
Only Luke is with me. Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry.11 Luke is the only one with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is helpful to me in the ministry.
And Tychicus have I sent to Ephesus.12 I have sent Tychicus to Ephesus.
The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments.13 When you come, bring the cloak I left with Carpus in Troas, the papyrus rolls, and especially the parchments.
Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works:14 Alexander the coppersmith did me a great deal of harm; the Lord will repay him according to his deeds.
Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words.15 You too be on guard against him, for he has strongly resisted our preaching.
At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge.16 At my first defense no one appeared on my behalf, but everyone deserted me. May it not be held against them!
Notwithstanding the Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.17 But the Lord stood by me and gave me strength, so that through me the proclamation might be completed and all the Gentiles might hear it. And I was rescued from the lion's mouth.
And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.18 The Lord will rescue me from every evil threat and will bring me safe to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Salute Prisca and Aquila, and the household of Onesiphorus.19 Greet Prisca and Aquila and the family of Onesiphorus.
Erastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick.20 Erastus remained in Corinth, while I left Trophimus sick at Miletus.
Do thy diligence to come before winter. Eubulus greeteth thee, and Pudens, and Linus, and Claudia, and all the brethren.21 Try to get here before winter. Eubulus, Pudens, Linus, Claudia, and all the brothers send greetings.
The Lord Jesus Christ be with thy spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.22 The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with all of you.
