1 And Joseph fell upon his father's face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.	1 Entonces José se echó sobre el rostro de su padre, lo cubrió de lágrimas y lo besó.
2 And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.	2 Después dio a los médicos que estaban a su servicio la orden de embalsamar a su padre, y los médicos embalsamaron a Israel.
3 And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Egyptians mourned for him threescore and ten days.	3 Esto les llevó cuarenta días, porque ese es el tiempo que dura el embalsamamiento. Los egipcios estuvieron de duelo por él durante setenta días.
4 And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,	4 Una vez transcurrido ese período, José se dirigió a la corte del Faraón en estos términos: «Por favor, presenten al Faraón el siguiente pedido:
5 My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.	5 En una oportunidad mi padre me dijo, obligándome bajo juramento: «Cuando yo muera, asegúrate de que me entierren en la tumba que me hice preparar en el país de Canaán. ¿Puedo ir a sepultar a mi padre y luego regresar?».
6 And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.	6 El Faraón respondió: «Ve a sepultar a tu padre, como él te lo hizo prometer bajo juramento».
7 And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,	7 José partió entonces para ir a sepultar a su padre, y con él fueron todos los servidores del Faraón, los ancianos de su palacio y todos los ancianos de Egipto,
8 And all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father's house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.	8 lo mismo que la familia de José, sus hermanos y la familia de su padre. En la región de Gosen dejaron únicamente a los niños y el ganado.
9 And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.	9 También fueron con él carros de guerra y jinetes, de manera que se formó un cortejo imponente.
10 And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days.	10 Al llegar a Goren Haatad, que está al otro lado del Jordán, celebraron las exequias con gran solemnidad, y José estuvo de duelo por su padre durante siete días.
11 And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abel-mizraim, which is beyond Jordan.	11 Los cananeos, habitantes del país, al ver los funerales de Goren Haatad, dijeron: «Este es un funeral solemne de los egipcios». Por eso aquel lugar, que se encuentra al otro lado del Jordán, se llamó Abel Misraim.
12 And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them:	12 Los hijos de Jacob hicieron con él todo lo que les había mandado:
13 For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.	13 lo trasladaron a Canaán y lo sepultaron en el campo de Macpelá, frente a Mamré, el campo que Abraham había comprado a Efrón, el hitita, para tenerlo como sepulcro familiar.
14 And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.	14 Y después de sepultar a su padre, José regresó a Egipto en compañía de sus hermanos y de todos los que habían ido a dar sepultura a su padre.
15 And when Joseph's brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.	15 Al ver que su padre había muerto, los hermanos de José se dijeron: «¿Y si José nos guarda rencor y nos devuelve todo el mal que le hicimos?».
16 And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,	16 Por eso le enviaron este mensaje: «Antes de morir, tu padre dejó esta orden:
17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.	17 «Díganle a José: Perdona el crimen y el pecado de tus hermanos, que te hicieron tanto mal. Por eso, perdona el crimen de los servidores del Dios de tu padre». Al oír estas palabras, José se puso a llorar.
18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.	18 Luego sus hermanos fueron personalmente, se postraron ante él y le dijeron: «Aquí nos tienes: somos tus esclavos».
19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?	19 Pero José les respondió: «No tengan miedo. ¿Acaso yo puedo hacer las veces de Dios?
20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.	20 El designio de Dios ha transformado en bien el mal que ustedes pensaron hacerme, a fin de cumplir lo que hoy se realiza: salvar la vida a un pueblo numeroso.
21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.	21 Por eso, no teman. Yo velaré por ustedes y por las personas que están a su cargo». Y los reconfortó, hablándoles afectuosamente.
22 And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father's house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.	22 José permaneció en Egipto junto con la familia de su padre, y vivió ciento diez años.
23 And Joseph saw Ephraim's children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph's knees.	23 Así pudo ver a los hijos de Efraím hasta la tercera generación; y los hijos de Maquir, hijo de Manasés, también nacieron sobre las rodillas de José.
24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.	24 Finalmente, José dijo a sus hermanos: «Yo estoy a punto de morir, pero Dios los visitará y los llevará de este país a la tierra que prometió con un juramento a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob».
25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.	25 Luego hizo prestar un juramento a los hijos de Israel, diciéndoles: «Cuando Dios los visite, lleven de aquí mis restos».
26 So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.	26 José murió a la edad de ciento diez años. Fue embalsamado y colocado en un sarcófago, en Egipto.
