17 Benjaminból és Júdából is elmentek azonban néhányan ahhoz az erősséghez, amelyben Dávid tartózkodott.	17 Some of the Benjaminites and Judahites also joined David at the stronghold.
18 Erre Dávid kiment eléjük és azt mondta: »Ha békességes szándékkal jöttetek hozzám, azért, hogy segítségemre legyetek, akkor szívem egy lesz veletek, ha azonban csapdát állítottatok nekem ellenségeim érdekében, noha kezemben gonoszság nincsen, akkor lássa ezt atyáink Istene és torolja meg.«	18 When David came forward to meet them, he responded to them by saying, 'If you have come to mewith peaceful intent to help me, you will find me a good friend. But if it is to betray me to my enemies, seeing thatI have done nothing wrong, may the God of our ancestors take note and condemn you.'

Peace be with you, peace be with you; peace be with those who help you! For your God has helped you!'And David accepted them, including them among his more senior officers.
20 Manasszéból is átszöktek néhányan Dávidhoz, amikor ő a filiszteusokkal Saul ellen hadba vonult, de nem harcolt velük – mert a filiszteusok fejedelmei tanácsot tartottak s visszaküldték őt, mondván: »Fejünk árán akar visszatérni urához, Saulhoz« –,	20 Some Manassehites also defected to David as he was setting out with the Philistines to fight Saul.But he did not help the Philistines because, after consultation, their chiefs sent him away, saying, 'He wil defectto his master Saul and it wil cost us our heads!'
21 hanem visszatért Szikelegbe. Ekkor szöktek át hozzá Manasszéból: Adnah, Jozabád, Jedjaél, Mikaél, Jozabád, Eliú és Szaláti, a manasszei ezrek vezetői.	21 He was on his way to Ziklag when these Manassehites deserted to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael,Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, Zil ethai, chiefs of thousands in Manasseh.
22 Ezek segítséget nyújtottak Dávidnak a rablók ellen, – mert mindannyian igen vitéz emberek voltak – s vezérek lettek a seregben.	22 They helped David and his band, since they were al men of standing and became officers in thearmy.
23 Egyébként napról-napra jöttek emberek Dávidhoz, hogy segítségére legyenek, végül is akkora lett a számuk, mint az Isten seregéé.	23 Indeed reinforcements reached David day after day, so that his camp grew into a camp of prodigioussize.
24 A következő volt azoknak a hadvezéreknek a száma, akik Dávidhoz mentek, amikor Hebronban volt, hogy ráruházzák Saul királyságát, az Úr szava szerint:	24 These are the numbers of ful y armed men who joined David at Hebron to transfer Saul's kingdom tohim in accordance with the order of Yahweh:

29 valamint Szádok, e kiváló erkölcsű ifjú, és családja, huszonkét vezér.	29 Zadok, a young and valiant champion, and twenty-two commanders of his family;
30 Benjamin fiai, Saul testvérei közül: háromezer ember, nagyrészük ugyanis még Saul házát követte.	30 Benjaminites: three thousand kinsmen of Saul, most of them hitherto in the service of the House ofSaul;

35 Naftaliból ezer vezér és velük harminchétezer, pajzzsal és dárdával felszerelt ember.	35 Naphtalites: a thousand commanders, and with them thirty-seven thousand men armed with shieldand spear;
36 Dánból huszonnyolcezer-hatszáz, harcra felkészült ember.	36 Danites: twenty-eight thousand six hundred men marshal ed for battle;
37 Áserből negyvenezer hadba vonuló, s a hadban támadó ember.	37 Asherites: forty thousand men fit for service, marshalled for battle;
38 A Jordánon túlról Rúben és Gád fiaiból s Manassze törzsének feléből százhúszezer, hadiszerszámokkal felszerelt ember.	38 from Transjordan: a hundred and twenty thousand men of Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe ofManasseh, with warlike weapons of every kind.
39 Ezek a harcra felkészült harcosok teljes szívvel jöttek Hebronba, hogy Dávidot egész Izrael királyává tegyék: de a többi izraelita is mind egy szívvel azon volt, hogy Dávid legyen a király.	39 Al these warriors in battle array came to David at Hebron with the firm determination of makingDavid king of al Israel; and the rest of Israel, too, was of one mind in wanting to make David king.
40 Három napig voltak ott Dávidnál, s ettek és ittak, mert testvéreik ellátták őket,	40 For three days they stayed there with David, eating and drinking, their fellow-tribesmen having madepreparations for them;
41 de meg azok is, akik a szomszédságukban voltak, egészen Isszakárig, Zebulonig és Naftaliig, hoztak szamarakon, tevéken, öszvéreken és marhákon ennivalót: lisztet, fügét, aszú szőlőt, bort, olajat, marhát s kost minden mennyiségben, mert öröm volt Izraelben.	41 their neighbours too, from as far away as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, came bringing food ondonkeys, camels, mules and oxen-supplies of flour, fig cakes, bunches of raisins, wine, oil, quantities of oxenand sheep -- for there was joy in Israel.
