1 Sechs Tage vor dem Paschafest kam Jesus nach Betanien, wo Lazarus war, den er von den Toten auferweckt hatte.	1 Then six days before the Passover, Jesus went to Bethania, where Lazarus had died, whom Jesus raised up.

But when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him, and that these things happened to him.
17 Die Leute, die bei Jesus gewesen waren, als er Lazarus aus dem Grab rief und von den Toten auferweckte, legten Zeugnis für ihn ab.	17 And so the crowd that had been with him, when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead, offered testimony.
18 Ebendeshalb war die Menge ihm entgegengezogen: weil sie gehört hatte, er habe dieses Zeichen getan.	18 Because of this, too, the crowd went out to meet him. For they heard that he had accomplished this sign.
19 Die Pharisäer aber sagten zueinander: Ihr seht, dass ihr nichts ausrichtet; alle Welt läuft ihm nach.	19 Therefore, the Pharisees said among themselves: “Do you see that we are accomplishing nothing? Behold, the entire world has gone after him.”
20 Auch einige Griechen waren anwesend - sie gehörten zu den Pilgern, die beim Fest Gott anbeten wollten.	20 Now there were certain Gentiles among those who went up so that they might worship on the feast day.

25 Wer an seinem Leben hängt, verliert es; wer aber sein Leben in dieser Welt gering achtet, wird es bewahren bis ins ewige Leben.	25 it remains alone. But if it dies, it yields much fruit. Whoever loves his life, will lose it. And whoever hates his life in this world, preserves it unto eternal life.
26 Wenn einer mir dienen will, folge er mir nach; und wo ich bin, dort wird auch mein Diener sein. Wenn einer mir dient, wird der Vater ihn ehren.	26 If anyone serves me, let him follow me. And where I am, there too my minister shall be. If anyone has served me, my Father will honor him.
27 Jetzt ist meine Seele erschüttert. Was soll ich sagen: Vater, rette mich aus dieser Stunde? Aber deshalb bin ich in diese Stunde gekommen.	27 Now my soul is troubled. And what should I say? Father, save me from this hour? But it is for this reason that I came to this hour.
28 Vater, verherrliche deinen Namen! Da kam eine Stimme vom Himmel: Ich habe ihn schon verherrlicht und werde ihn wieder verherrlichen.	28 Father, glorify your name!” And then a voice came from heaven, “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.”

Wer ist dieser Menschensohn?	34 The crowd answered him: “We have heard, from the law, that the Christ remains forever. And so how can you say, ‘The Son of man must be lifted up?’ Who is this Son of man?”
35 Da sagte Jesus zu ihnen: Nur noch kurze Zeit ist das Licht bei euch. Geht euren Weg, solange ihr das Licht habt, damit euch nicht die Finsternis überrascht. Wer in der Finsternis geht, weiß nicht, wohin er gerät.	35 Therefore, Jesus said to them: “For a brief time, the Light is among you. Walk while you have the Light, so that the darkness may not overtake you. But whoever walks in darkness does not know where is he going.
36 Solange ihr das Licht bei euch habt, glaubt an das Licht, damit ihr Söhne des Lichts werdet. Dies sagte Jesus. Und er ging fort und verbarg sich vor ihnen.	36 While you have the Light, believe in the Light, so that you may be sons of the Light.” Jesus spoke these things, and then he went away and hid himself from them.

40 Er hat ihre Augen blind gemacht und ihr Herz hart, damit sie mit ihren Augen nicht sehen und mit ihrem Herzen nicht zur Einsicht kommen, damit sie sich nicht bekehren und ich sie nicht heile.	40 “He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart, so that they may not see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and be converted: and then I would heal them.”
41 Das sagte Jesaja, weil er Jesu Herrlichkeit gesehen hatte; über ihn nämlich hat er gesprochen.	41 These things Isaiah said, when he saw his glory and was speaking about him.
42 Dennoch kamen sogar von den führenden Männern viele zum Glauben an ihn; aber wegen der Pharisäer bekannten sie es nicht offen, um nicht aus der Synagoge ausgestoßen zu werden.	42 Yet truly, many of the leaders also believed in him. But because of the Pharisees, they did not confess him, so that they would not be cast out of the synagogue.
43 Denn sie liebten das Ansehen bei den Menschen mehr als das Ansehen bei Gott.	43 For they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God.
44 Jesus aber rief aus: Wer an mich glaubt, glaubt nicht an mich, sondern an den, der mich gesandt hat,	44 But Jesus cried out and said: “Whoever believes in me, does not believe in me, but in him who sent me.
45 und wer mich sieht, sieht den, der mich gesandt hat.	45 And whoever sees me, sees him who sent me.
46 Ich bin das Licht, das in die Welt gekommen ist, damit jeder, der an mich glaubt, nicht in der Finsternis bleibt.	46 I have arrived as a light to the world, so that all who believe in me might not remain in darkness.
47 Wer meine Worte nur hört und sie nicht befolgt, den richte nicht ich; denn ich bin nicht gekommen, um die Welt zu richten, sondern um sie zu retten.	47 And if anyone has heard my words and not kept them, I do not judge him. For I did not come so that I may judge the world, but so that I may save the world.
48 Wer mich verachtet und meine Worte nicht annimmt, der hat schon seinen Richter: Das Wort, das ich gesprochen habe, wird ihn richten am Letzten Tag.	48 Whoever despises me and does not accept my words has one who judges him. The word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him on the last day.
49 Denn was ich gesagt habe, habe ich nicht aus mir selbst, sondern der Vater, der mich gesandt hat, hat mir aufgetragen, was ich sagen und reden soll.	49 For I am not speaking from myself, but from the Father who sent me. He gave a commandment to me as to what I should say and how I should speak.
50 Und ich weiß, dass sein Auftrag ewiges Leben ist. Was ich also sage, sage ich so, wie es mir der Vater gesagt hat.	50 And I know that his commandment is eternal life. Therefore, the things that I speak, just as the Father has said to me, so also do I speak.”
