1 And this lot fell to the tribe of Manasses (for he is the firstborn of Joseph) to Machir the firstborn of Manasses the father of Galaad, who was a warlike man, and had for possession Galaad and Basan.	1 E cadde la sorte alla schiatta di Manasse, imperciò ch' egli è il primogenito (cioè il primo figliuolo) di Iosef: Machir che è primogenito di Manasse, il quale fue padre di Galaad, il quale fu uomo combattitore, ebbe la possessione di Galaad e di Basan;
2 And to the rest of the children of Manasses according to their families: to the children of Abiezer, and to the children of Helec, and to the children of Esriel, and to the children of Sechem, and to the children of Hepher, and to the children of Semida: these are the male children of Manasses the son of Joseph, by their kindreds.	2 e tutti gli altri de' figliuoli di Manasse, condo le loro famiglie, i figliuoli di Abiezer, e i figliuoli di Elec, e i figliuoli di Esriel, e i figliuoli di Sechem, e i figliuoli di Efer, e i figliuoli di Semida. Questi sono i figliuoli di Manasse, de' figliuoli di Iosef, maschi (per lo ceppo e) per parentado loro.
3 But Salphaad the son of Hepher the son of Galaad the son of Machir the son of Manasses had no sons, but only daughters: whose names are these, Maala and Noa and Hegla and Melcha and Thersa.	3 Ma Salfaad figliuolo di Efer, figliuolo di Galaad, che fue figliuolo di Machir figliuolo di Manasse, non avea figliuoli, ma figliuole; delle quali questi sono i nomi: Maala e Noa ed Egla e Melca e Tersa.
4 And they came in the presence of Eleazar the priest and of Josue the son of Nun, and of the princes, saying: The Lord commanded by the hand of Moses, that a possession should be given us in the midst of our brethren. And he gave them according to the commandment of the Lord a possession amongst the brethren of their father.	4 E vennero costoro dinanzi ad Eleazaro (prete e sommo) sacerdote e a Iosuè figliuolo di Nun e ai principi, e dissero: Iddio Signore comandò, per mano di Moisè, che a noi fosse data la possessione nel mezzo de' nostri fratelli. E diede loro Iosuè, secondo il comandamento di Dio Signore, la possessione nel mezzo de' fratelli del padre loro.
5 And there fell ten portions to Manasses, beside the land of Galaad and Basan beyond the Jordan.	5 E caddono X misure di Manasse, senza la terra di Galaad e di Basan di là dal (fiume) Giordano.
6 For the daughters of Manasses possessed inheritance in the midst of his sons. And the land of Galaad fell to the lot of the rest of the children of Manasses.	6 Imperciò che le figliuole di Manasse possedettono la loro ereditade nel mezzo de' fratelli del padre loro. Ma la terra di Galaad sì cadde in sorte a' figliuoli di Manasse i quali erano rimasi.
7 And the border of Manasses was from Aser, Machmethath which looketh towards Sichem: and it goeth out on the right hand by the inhabitants of the fountain of Taphua.	7 E fu il termine (e il confine) di Manasse da Aser a Macmetat, la quale ragguarda verso Sichem, e riesce dalla mano diritta da lato degli abitatori della fonte di Tafua.
8 For the lot of Manasses took in the land of Taphua, which is on the borders of Manasses, and belongs to the children of Ephraim.	8 Imperciò che venne in sorte a Manasse la terra di Tafua, la quale è a lato a' termini (e a' confini) di Manasse de' figliuoli di Efraim.
9 And the border goeth down to the valley of the reeds, to the south of the torrent of the cities of Ephraim, which are in the midst of the cities of Manasses: the border of Manasses is on the north side of the torrent, and the outgoings of it are at the sea:	9 E discende giuso il termine (e il confine) della valle del canneto nella parte del mezzodì del torrente delle città di Efraim, le quali sono nel mezzo delle cittadi di Manasse. E il termine di Manasse sì è dall'aquilone del torrente, e l'uscita sua va al mare;
10 So that the possession of Ephraim is on the south, and on the north that of Manasses, and the sea is the border of both, and they are joined together in the tribe of Aser on the north, and in the tribe of Issachar on the east.	10 sì che dall'austro è la (sua) possessione di Efraim, e dall'aquilone si è [di] Manasse, intanto che cadauna è chiusa dal mare, e congiungesi insieme con la tribù di Aser dall'aquilone, e con la tribù di Issacar dall'oriente.
11 And the inheritance of Manasses in Issachar and in Aser, was Bethsan and its villages, and Jeblaam with its villages, and the inhabitants of Dor, with the towns thereof: the inhabitants also of Endor with the villages thereof: and in like manner the inhabitants of Thenac with the villages thereof: and the inhabitants of Mageddo with their villages, and the third part of the city of Nopheth.	11 E fue la eredità di Manasse in Issacar e in Aser, cioè Betsan (e le ville) e li campi suoi, e Ieblaam con le ville sue, e gli abitatori di Dor con li castelli suoi, e ancora gli abitatori d' Endor colle ville e campi suoi; e simigliantemente gli abitatori di Tenac con le ville sue, e gli abitatori di Mageddo (coi campi e) colle ville sue, e la terza parte della città di Nofet.
12 Neither could the children of Manasses overthrow these cities, but the Chanaanite began to dwell in his land.	12 E non poterono i figliuoli di Manasse disfare queste cittadi; ma incominciò ad abitare il Cananeo in quella terra.
13 But after that the children of Israel were grown strong, they subdued the Chanaanites, and made them their tributaries, and they did not kill them.	13 Ma poi che furono fortificati, i figliuoli d'Israel, sì gli sottomisono questi Cananei; e sì gli fecero suoi tributarii (e fedeli) e non gli uccisero.
14 And the children of Joseph spoke to Josue, and said: Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to possess, whereas I am of so great a multitude, and the Lord hath blessed me?	14 E favellarono i figliuoli di Iosef a Iosuè, e dissono perchè m' hai tu data la possessione della sorte ad una misura, conciosia cosa ch' io sia di tanta moltitudine, e Iddio m' abbia benedetto?
15 And Josue said to them: If thou be a great people, go up into the woodland, and cut down room for thyself in the land of the Pherezite and the Raphaims: because the possession of mount Ephraim is too narrow for thee.	15 Ai quali disse Iosuè: se tu se' molto (e grande) popolo, vattene suso nella selva, e tagliati gli spazii nella terra del Ferezeo e di Rafaim; imperciò che tu hai troppo stretta possessione (e abitazione) nel monte di Efraim.
16 And the children of Joseph answered him: We cannot go up to the mountains, for the Chanaanites that dwell in the low lands, wherein are situate Bethsan with its towns, and Jezrael in the midst of the valley, have chariots of iron	16 Al qual rispuosono i figliuoli di Iosef: noi non potremo salire alle montagne, conciosia cosa che i Cananei usino carri di ferro; i quali abitano la terra piana, nella quale terra sono edificate Betsan colle ville (e campi suoi), e Iezrael che possiede la metà della valle.
17 And Josue said to the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and Manasses: Thou art a great people, and of great strength, thou shalt not have one lot only:	17 E disse Iosuè alla casa di Iosef e di Efraim, e di Manasse: tu sei uno gran popolo, e molto, e di gran fortezza, e non avrai sorte una.
18 But thou shalt pass to the mountain, and shalt cut down the wood, and make thyself room to dwell in: and mayst proceed farther, when thou hast destroyed the Chanaanites, who as thou sayest have iron chariots, and are very strong.	18 Ma passerai suso al monte, e sì ti taglierai e netterai gli spazii ad abitare; e potrai andare più oltre, poi che avrai cacciato a terra il Cananeo, il quale tu dici che hae carri di ferro, e che è fortissimo.
