DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW JERUSALEM
An eunuch, whose testicles are broken or cut away, or yard cut off, shall not enter into the church of the Lord.1 'A man must not take his father's wife; he must not withdraw the skirt of his father's cloak from her.
A mamzer, that is to say, one born of a prostitute, shall not enter into the church of the Lord, until the tenth generation.2 'A man whose testicles have been crushed or whose male member has been cut off must not beadmitted to the assembly of Yahweh.
The Ammonite and the Moabite, even after the tenth generation shall not enter into the church of the Lord for ever:3 No half-breed may be admitted to the assembly of Yahweh; not even his descendants to the tenthgeneration may be admitted to the assembly of Yahweh.
Because they would not meet you with bread and water in the way, when you came out of Egypt: hand because they hired against thee Balaam, the son of Beer, from Mesopotamia in Syria, to curse thee.4 No Ammonite or Moabite may be admitted to the assembly of Yahweh; not even his descendants tothe tenth generation may be admitted to the assembly of Yahweh, and this is for all time;
And the Lord thy God would not hear Balaam, and he turned his cursing into thy blessing, because he loved thee.5 since they did not come to meet you with food and drink when you were on your way out of Egypt, andeven hired Balaam son of Beor to oppose you by cursing you, from Pethor in Aram Naharaim.
Thou shalt not make peace with them, neither shalt thou seek their prosperity all the days of thy life for ever.6 But Yahweh your God refused to listen to Balaam, and Yahweh your God turned the curse on you intoa blessing, because Yahweh your God loved you.
Thou shalt not abhor the Edomite, because he is thy brother: nor the Egyptian, because thou wast a stranger in his land.7 Never, as long as you live, must you seek their welfare or their prosperity.
They that are born of them, in the third generation shall enter into the church of the Lord.8 'You must not regard the Edomite as detestable, for he is your brother; you must not regard theEgyptian as detestable, since you were once a foreigner in his country.
When thou goest out to war against thy enemies, thou shalt keep thyself from every evil thing.9 The third generation of children born to these may be admitted to the assembly of Yahweh.
If there be among you any man, that is defiled in a dream by night, he shall go forth out of the camp.10 'When you are in camp, at war with your enemies, you must avoid anything bad.
And shall not return, before he be washed with water in the evening: and after sunset he shall return into the camp.11 If any one of you is unclean by reason of a nocturnal emission, he must leave and not come backinto camp,
Thou shalt have a place without the camp, to which thou mayst go for the necessities of nature,12 but towards evening wash himself, and return to camp at sunset.
Carrying a paddle at thy girdle. And when thou sittest down, thou shalt dig round about, and with the earth that is dug up thou shalt cover13 'You must have a latrine outside the camp, and go out to this;
That which thou art eased of: (for the Lord thy God walketh in the midst of thy camp, to deliver thee, and to give up thy enemies to thee:) and let thy camp be holy, and let no uncleanness appear therein, lest he go away from thee.14 you must have a trowel in your equipment and, when you squat outside, you must scrape a hole withit, then turn round and cover up your excrement.
Thou shalt not deliver to his master the servant that is fled to thee.15 For Yahweh your God goes about the inside of your camp to guard you and put your enemies at yourmercy. Your camp must therefore be a holy place; Yahweh must not see anything indecent there or he willdesert you.
He shall dwell with thee ill the place that shall please him, and shall rest, in one of thy cities: give him no trouble.16 'You must not allow a master to imprison a slave who has escaped from him and come to you.
There shall be no whore among the daughters of Israel, nor whoremonger among the sons of Israel.17 Let him make his home with you and yours, wherever he pleases in whichever of your towns heprefers; you must not molest him.
Thou shalt not offer the hire of a strumpet, nor the price of a dog, in the house of the Lord thy God, whatsoever it be that thou hast vowed: because both these are an abomination to the Lord thy God.18 'There must be no sacred prostitute among the women of Israel, and no sacred prostitute among themen of Israel.
Thou shalt not lend to thy brother money to usury, nor corn, nor any other thing:19 You must not bring the wages of a prostitute or the earnings of a 'dog' to the house of Yahweh yourGod, whatever vow you may have made: both are detestable to Yahweh your God.
But to the stranger. To thy brother thou shalt lend that which he wanteth, without usury: that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all thy works in the land, which thou shalt go in to possess.20 'You must not lend on interest to your brother, whether the loan be of money, of food, or of anythingelse that may earn interest.
When thou hast made a vow to the Lord thy God, thou shalt not delay to pay it: because the Lord thy God will require it. And if thou delay, it shall be imputed to thee for a sin.21 You may demand interest on a loan to a foreigner, but you must not demand interest from yourbrother; so that Yahweh your God may bless you in al your labours, in the country which you are about to enterand make your own.
If thou wilt not promise, thou shalt be without sin.22 'If you make a vow to Yahweh your God, you must not be slack about fulfil ing it: Yahweh your Godwil certainly hold you answerable for it and you wil incur guilt.
But that which is once gone out of thy lips, thou shalt observe, and shalt do as thou hast promised to the Lord thy God, and hast spoken with thy own will and with thy own mouth.23 If, however, you make no vow, you do not incur guilt.
Going into thy neighbour's vineyard, thou mayst eat as many grapes as thou pleasest: but must carry none out with thee:24 Whatever passes your lips you must keep to, and the vow that you have made to Yahweh, yourgenerous God, you must fulfil.
If thou go into thy friend's corn, thou mayst break the ears, and rub them in thy hand: but not reap them with a sickle.25 'If you go into your neighbour's vineyard, you may eat as many grapes as you please, but you mustnot put any in your basket.
If you go into your neighbour's standing corn, you may pick ears by hand, but you must not put asickle into your neighbour's corn.'
