DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW JERUSALEM
And when they were drawing near to Jerusalem and to Bethania at the mount of Olives, he sendeth two of his disciples,1 When they were approaching Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany, close by the Mount of Olives, hesent two of his disciples
And saith to them: Go into the village that is over against you, and immediately at your coming in thither, you shall find a colt tied, upon which no man yet hath sat: loose him, and bring him.2 and said to them, 'Go to the vil age facing you, and as you enter it you wil at once find a tethered coltthat no one has yet ridden. Untie it and bring it here.
And if any man shall say to you, What are you doing? say ye that the Lord hath need of him: and immediately he will let him come hither.3 If anyone says to you, "What are you doing?" say, "The Master needs it and wil send it back here at once." '
And going their way, they found the colt tied before the gate without, in the meeting of two ways: and they loose him.4 They went off and found a colt tethered near a door in the open street. As they untied it,
And some of them that stood there, said to them: What do you loosing the colt?5 some men standing there said, 'What are you doing, untying that colt?'
Who said to them as Jesus had commanded them; and they let him go with them.6 They gave the answer Jesus had told them, and the men let them go.
And they brought the colt to Jesus; and they lay their garments on him, and he sat upon him.7 Then they took the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on its back, and he mounted it.
And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down boughs from the trees, and strewed them in the way.8 Many people spread their cloaks on the road, and others greenery which they had cut in the fields.
And they that went before and they that followed, cried, saying: Hosanna, blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.9 And those who went in front and those who fol owed were al shouting, 'Hosanna! Blessed is he who iscoming in the name of the Lord!
Blessed be the kingdom of our father David that cometh: Hosanna in the highest.10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of David our father! Hosanna in the highest heavens!'
And he entered into Jerusalem, into the temple: and having viewed all things round about, when now the eventide was come, he went out to Bethania with the twelve.11 He entered Jerusalem and went into the Temple; and when he had surveyed it al , as it was late bynow, he went out to Bethany with the Twelve.
And the next day when they came out from Bethania, he was hungry.12 Next day as they were leaving Bethany, he felt hungry.
And when he had seen afar off a fig tree having leaves, he came if perhaps he might find any thing on it. And when he was come to it, he found nothing but leaves. For it was not the time for figs.13 Seeing a fig tree in leaf some distance away, he went to see if he could find any fruit on it, but whenhe came up to it he found nothing but leaves; for it was not the season for figs.
And answering he said to it: May no man hereafter eat fruit of thee any more for ever. And his disciples heard it.14 And he addressed the fig tree, 'May no one ever eat fruit from you again.' And his disciples heard himsay this.
And they came to Jerusalem. And when he was entered into the temple, he began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the chairs of them that sold doves.15 So they reached Jerusalem and he went into the Temple and began driving out the men selling andbuying there; he upset the tables of the money changers and the seats of the dove sel ers.
And he suffered not that any man should carry a vessel through the temple;16 Nor would he allow anyone to carry anything through the Temple.
And he taught, saying to them: Is it not written, My house shall be called the house of prayer to all nations? But you have made it a den of thieves.17 And he taught them and said, 'Does not scripture say: My house wil be cal ed a house of prayer for al peoples? But you have turned it into a bandits' den.'
Which when the chief priests and the scribes had heard, they sought how they might destroy him. For they feared him, because the whole multitude was in admiration at his doctrine.18 This came to the ears of the chief priests and the scribes, and they tried to find some way of doingaway with him; they were afraid of him because the people were carried away by his teaching.
And when evening was come, he went forth out of the city.19 And when evening came he went out of the city.
And when they passed by in the morning they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.20 Next morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig tree withered to the roots.
And Peter remembering, said to him: Rabbi, behold the fig tree, which thou didst curse, is withered away.21 Peter remembered. 'Look, Rabbi,' he said to Jesus, 'the fig tree that you cursed has withered away.'
And Jesus answering, saith to them: Have the faith of God.22 Jesus answered, 'Have faith in God.
Amen I say to you, that whosoever shall say to this mountain, Be thou removed and be cast into the sea, and shall not stagger in his heart, but believe, that whatsoever he saith shall be done; it shall be done unto him.23 In truth I tel you, if anyone says to this mountain, "Be pul ed up and thrown into the sea," with nodoubt in his heart, but believing that what he says wil happen, it will be done for him.
Therefore I say unto you, all things, whatsoever you ask when ye pray, believe that you shall receive; and they shall come unto you.24 I tel you, therefore, everything you ask and pray for, believe that you have it already, and it wil beyours.
And when you shall stand to pray, forgive, if you have aught against any man; that your Father also, who is in heaven, may forgive you your sins.25 And when you stand in prayer, forgive whatever you have against anybody, soyour Father in heavenmay forgive your failings too.'
But if you will not forgive, neither will your Father that is in heaven, forgive you your sins.26
And they come again to Jerusalem. And when he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests and the scribes and the ancients,27 They came to Jerusalem again, and as Jesus was walking in the Temple, the chief priests and thescribes and the elders came to him,
And they say to him: By what authority dost thou these things? and who hath given thee this authority that thou shouldst do these things?28 and they said to him, 'What authority have you for acting like this? Or who gave you authority to actlike this?'
And Jesus answering, said to them: I will also ask you one word, and answer you me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.29 Jesus said to them, 'And I will ask you a question, just one; answer me and I wil tel you my authorityfor acting like this.
The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men? Answer me.30 John's baptism, what was its origin, heavenly or human? Answer me that.'
But they thought with themselves, saying: If we say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did you not believe him?31 And they argued this way among themselves, 'If we say heavenly, he wil say, "Then why did yourefuse to believe him?"
If we say, From men, we fear the people. For all men counted John that he was a prophet indeed.32 But dare we say human?' -- they had the people to fear, for everyone held that John had been a realprophet.
And they answering, say to Jesus: We know not. And Jesus answering, saith to them: Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.33 So their reply to Jesus was, 'We do not know.' And Jesus said to them, 'Nor will I tell you my authorityfor acting like this.'
