Isaiah 31

1 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help, trusting in horses, and putting their confidence in chariots, because they me many: and in horsemen, because they me very strong: and have not trusted in the Holy One of Israel, and have not sought after the Lord.	1 Malheur à ceux qui vont chercher du secours en Égypte, et se croient sauvés avec de la cavalerie! Là les chars sont nombreux, les cavaliers sont forts, et ils se sentent rassurés. Mais ils n’ont pas regardé vers le Saint d’Israël, ils n’ont pas consulté Yahvé.
2 But he that is the wise one hath brought evil, and hath not removed his words: and he will rise up against the house of the wicked, and against the aid of them that work iniquity.	2 Pourtant Yahvé est sage, et très capable d’amener le malheur. Lui ne manquera pas à sa parole: il se lèvera contre le parti des malfaiteurs et contre l’aide qu’attendent les méchants.
3 Egypt is man, and not God: and their horses, flesh, and not spirit: and the Lord shall put down his hand, and the helper shall fall, and he that is helped shall fall, and they shall al be confounded together.	3 L’Égyptien est un homme, il n’est pas Dieu: ses chevaux sont chair et non esprit. Au premier coup, si Yahvé frappe, celui qui portait secours trébuchera, celui qu’on secourait tombera, les deux seront éliminés.
4 For thus saith the Lord to me: Like as the lion roareth, and the lion's whelp upon his prey, and when a multitude of shepherds shall come against him, he will not fear at their voice, nor be afraid of their multitude: so shall the Lord of hosts come down to fight upon mount Sion, and upon the hill thereof.	4 Car voici ce que Yahvé m’a dit: “Lorsque le lion ou le lionceau gronde sur sa proie, la foule des bergers peut bien se rassembler contre lui: il n’a pas peur de leurs cris, il ne s’effraye pas de leur nombre. C’est ainsi que Yahvé Sabaot descendra pour combattre sur la hauteur du Mont Sion.
5 As birds dying, so will the Lord of hosts protect Jerusalem, protecting and delivering, passing over and saving.	5 Comme les oiseaux étendent leurs ailes, Yahvé Sabaot veillera sur Jérusalem; il couvrira et sauvera, il épargnera et fera qu’on en réchappe.
6 Return as you had deeply revolted, O children of Israel.	6 Revenez donc, fils d’Israël, vers celui que vous avez tellement trahi.
7 For in that day a man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your hands have made for you to sin.	7 En ce jour-là on rejettera ces idoles d’argent, ces idoles d’or que vous avez fabriquées de vos mains.
8 And the Assyrian shall fall by the sword not of a man, and the sword not of a man shall devour him, and he shall flee not at the face of the sword: and his young men shall be tributaries.	8 L’Assyrie sera abattue, mais ce ne sera pas l’épée d’un homme; l’épée la dévorera, mais pas l’épée des mortels. Elle s’enfuira devant l’épée et ses jeunes gens seront réduits en esclavage.
9 And his strength shall pass away with dread, and his princes fleeing shall be afraid: the Lord hath said it, whose die is in Sion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.	9 Prise de panique elle fuira sans s’arrêter sur ses défenses, et ses chefs, épouvantés, abandonneront leur drapeau. Ceci est parole de Yahvé, dont le feu est en Sion et le brasier à Jérusalem.
