DOUAI-RHEIMSEL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
Happy is the husband of a good wife: for the number of his years is double.1 ¡Feliz el marido de una buena esposa: se duplicará el número de sus días!
A virtuous woman rejoiceth her husband: and shall fulfil the years of his life in peace.2 La mujer hacendosa es la alegría de su marido y él vivirá en paz hasta el último de sus días.
A good wife is a good portion, she shall be given in the portion of them that fear God, to a man for his good deeds.3 Una buena esposa es una gran fortuna, reservada en suerte a los que temen al Señor:
Rich or poor, if his heart is good, his countenance shall be cheerful at all times.4 sea rico o pobre, su corazón será dichoso y su rostro estará radiante en todo momento.
Of three things my heart hath been afraid, and at the fourth my face hath trembled:5 Hay tres cosas que me inspiran temor, y por la cuarta imploro misericordia: ciudad dividida, multitud amotinada y falsa acusación son más penosas que la muerte.
The accusation of a city, and the gathering together of the people:6 Pero pesadumbre y duelo es la mujer celosa de su rival, y en todo está presente el flagelo de la lengua.
And a false calumny, all are more grievous than death.7 Un yugo mal ajustado es una mala mujer: tratar de sujetarla es agarrar un escorpión.
A jealous woman is the grief and mourning of the heart.8 Una mujer bebedora provoca indignación: ella no podrá ocultar si ignominia.
With a jealous woman is a scourge of the tongue which communicateth with all.9 en el descaro de la mirada y en sus pupilas se reconoce la procacidad de una mujer.
As a yoke of oxen that is moved to and fro, so also is a wicked woman: he that hath hold of her, is as he that taketh hold of a scorpion.10 Redobla la guardia ante una joven atrevida, no sea que descubra una ocasión se aproveche.
A drunken woman is a great wrath: and her reproach and shame shall not be hid.11 Cuídate de las miradas provocativas y no te sorprendas si te incitan al mal.
The fornication of a woman shall be known by the haughtiness of her eyes, and by her eyelids.12 Ella abre la boca como un viajero sediento y bebe toda el agua que se le ofrece; se sienta ante cualquier estaca y abre su aljaba a todas las flechas.
On a daughter that turneth not away herself, set a strict watch: lest finding an opportunity she abuse herself.13 La gracia de una mujer deleita a su marido y su buen juicio lo llena de vigor.
Take heed of the impudence of her eyes, and wonder not if she slight thee.14 Una mujer discreta es un don del Señor y no tiene precio la esposa bien educada.
She will open her mouth as a thirsty traveller to the fountain, and will drink of every water near her, and will sit down by every hedge, and open her quiver against every arrow, until she fail.15 Una mujer pudorosa es la mayor de las gracias y no hay escala para medir a la que es dueña de sí misma.
The grace of a diligent woman shall delight her husband, and shall fat his bones.16 Como el sol que se eleva por las alturas del Señor, así es el encanto de la buena esposa es una casa ordenada.
Her discipline is the gift of God.17 Como una lámpara que brilla sobre el candelabro sagrado, así es la belleza del rostro sobre un cuerpo esbelto.
Such is a wise and silent woman, and there is nothing so much worth as a well instructed soul.18 Columnas de oro sobre un zócalo de plata son las piernas hermosas sobres talones firmes.
A holy and shamefaced woman is grace upon grace.
And no price is worthy of a continent soul.
As the sun when it riseth to the world in the high places of God, so is the beauty of a good wife for the ornament of her house.
As the lamp shining upon the holy candlestick, so is the beauty of the face in a ripe age.
As golden pillars upon bases of silver, so are the firm feet upon the soles of a steady woman.
As everlasting foundations upon a solid rock, so the commandments of God In the heart of a holy woman.
At two things my heart is grieved, and the third bringeth anger upon me:
A man of was fainting through poverty: and a man of sense despised:
And he that passeth over from justice to sin, God hath prepared such an one for the sword.
Two sorts of callings have appeared to me hard and dangerous: a merchant is hardly free from negligence: and a huckster shall not be justified from the sins of the lips.28 Hay dos cosas que me entristecen y por una tercera se enciende mi enojo: un guerrero sumido en la indigencia, los hombres inteligentes tratados con desprecio y el que vuelve de la justicia al pecado: a este, el Señor lo destina a la espada.
