Sirach 22

1 The sluggard is pelted with a dirty stone, and all men will speak of his disgrace.	1 In pietra di loto è lapidato il pigro; e tutti favellaranno sopra il disprezzo di colui.
2 The sluggard is pelted with the dung of oxen: and every one that toucheth him will shake his hands.	2 Dello sterco de' buoi lapidato è il pigro; e chiunque lo toccherae, si scoterà le mani.
3 A son ill taught is the confusion of the father: and a foolish daughter shall be to his loss.	3 La confusione del padre si è il figliuolo pazzo; ma la figlia stolta sarà in isbandimento.
4 A wise daughter shall bring an inheritance to her husband: but she that confoundeth, becometh a disgrace to her father.	4 La figlia savia sarà un ereditaggio al marito suo; però che quella che confonde, si fa in contumelia al padre.
5 She that is bold shameth both her father and husband, and will not be inferior to the ungodly: and shall be disgraced by them both.	5 Confonde il padre e il marito l'ardita, e dai malvagi non sarà spartita; ma dall' uno e dall' altro sarà vituperata.
6 A tale out of time is like music in mourning: but the stripes and instruction of wisdom are never out of time.	6 Lo importuno parlare è sì come la musica nel pianto; le battiture e la dottrina sì sono in ogni tempo sapienza.
7 He that teacheth a fool, is like one that glueth a potsherd together.	7 Colui che ammaestrarà il pazzo, fa come colui che ricoglie il testo rotto.
8 He that telleth a word to him that heareth not, is like one that waketh a man out of a deep sleep.	8 Colui che favella a colui che non ode, fa come colui che isveglia del grave sonno colui che dorme.
9 He speaketh with one that is asleep, who uttereth wisdom to a fool: and in the end of the discourse he saith: Who is this?	9 Con uno dormitore favella chi parla allo stolto [la sapienza]; il quale in fine della narrazione dirae: chi è costui?
10 Weep for the dead, for his light hath failed: and weep for the fool, for his understanding faileth.	10 Piagni sopra il morto, però che la luce sua è mancata; e sopra il pazzo piagni, però ch' egli mancoe nel senno.
11 Weep but a little for the dead, for he is at rest.	11 Piagni poco sopra il morto, però ch' egli si riposoe.
12 For the wicked life of a wicked fool is worse than death.	12 La vita del reissimo è più reissima oltre la vita del pazzo.
13 The mourning for the dead is seven days: but for a fool and an ungodly man all the days of their life.	13 Il pianto del morto sia sette dì; del pazzo e del reo, tutti i dì della vita loro è da piagnere.
14 Talk not much with a fool, and go not with him that hath no sense.	14 Non parlare molto col pazzo, e col disensato non andare.
15 Keep thyself from him, that thou mayst not have trouble, and thou shalt not be defiled with his sin.	15 Astienti da lui, acciò che tu non abbi gravezza; e non ti sozzerai del peccato di colui.
16 Turn away from him, and thou shalt find rest, and shalt not be wearied out with his folly.	16 Schìfati da lui, e troverai requie, e non cadrai nella sua stoltizia.
17 What is heavier than lead? and what other name hath he but fool?	17 Quale cosa si graverà sopra il piombo? e che è a colui altro nome, che pazzo?
18 Sand and salt, and a mass of iron is easier to bear, than a man without sense, that is both foolish and wicked.	18 Più agevole è a portare rena e sale o masse di ferro, che l'uomo sciocco e pazzo e malvagio.
19 A frame of wood bound together in the foundation of a building, shall not be loosed: so neither shall the heart that is established by advised counsel.	19 Sì come il tavolato del legno, incatenato al fondamento dello edificio, non si dissolve, così il cuore confermato col pensiero del consiglio.
20 The thought of him that is wise at all times, shall not be depraved by fear.	20 Il pensiero del savio in nullo tempo incattiverae (nè) per paura.
21 As pales set in high places, and plasterings made without cost, will not stand against the face of the wind:	21 Come la paglia negli alti luoghi, e la calcina trita sanza mistione, posta alla faccia del vento, non staranno ferme;
22 So also a fearful heart in the imagination of a fool shall not resist against the violence of fear.	22 così il cuore pauroso nel pensiero dello stolto non resisterae contro allo assalto della paura.
23 As a fearful heart in the thought of a fool at all times will not fear, so neither shall he that continueth always in the commandments of God.	23 Come (l' ornato arenoso nel pariete polito così) il cuore timoroso nel pensiero del pazzo in ogni tempo non ha paura, così colui che persevera nelli comandamenti di Dio sempre.
24 He that pricketh the eye, bringeth out tears: and he that pricketh the heart, bringeth forth resentment.	24 Colui che si pugne l'occhio, ne fa uscire le lagrime; e colui che si pugne il cuore profera, senno.
25 He that flingeth a stone at birds, shall drive them away: so he that upbraideth his friend, breaketh friendship.	25 Si come colui che getta la pietra nelli uccelli, caccia quelli; così colui che villaneggia l'amico dissolve l' amistade.
26 Although thou hast drawn a sword at a friend, despair not: for there may be a returning. To a friend,	26 Verso l'amico se tu traesti fuori il coltello, non ti disperare; però che si puote ritornare allo amico.
27 If thou hast opened a sad mouth, fear not, for there may be a reconciliation: except upbraiding, and reproach, and pride, and disclosing of secrets, or a treacherous wound: for in all these cases a friend will flee away.	27 Se elli aprirae la bocca con tristizia, non temere; però che se ne puote rammendare, eccetto la villania e il rimprovero e la superbia e del secreto la revelazione e la piaga fraudolente; in queste cose tutte l'amico fuggirae.
28 Keep fidelity with a friend in his poverty, that in his prosperity also thou mayst rejoice.	28 La fede possiedi collo amico nella povertade sua, acciò che ti rallegri nel bene suo.
29 In the time of his trouble continue faithful to him, that thou mayst also be heir with him in his inheritance.	29 Nel tempo della sua tribulazione stàlli fedele, acciò che nella sua ereditade tu sia erede con lui.
30 As the vapour of a chimney, and the smoke of the fire goeth up before the fire: so also injurious words, and reproaches, and threats, before blood.	30 Il vapore è dinanzi dal fuoco della caminata, e il fumo del fuoco va in alto; così vanno innanzi al sangue li rei detti e le villanie e le minaccie.
31 I will not be ashamed to salute a friend, neither will I hide myself from his face: and if any evil happen to me by him, I will bear it.	31 Non mi vergogneroe di salutare l'amico, e non mi nasconderoe dalla faccia sua; e se per lui mi verrae male, sì lo sosterroe.
32 But every one that shall hear it, will beware of him.	32 Ciascuno che m' intenderae, si guarderà da quello.
33 Who will set a guard before my mouth, and a sure seal upon my lips, that I fall not by them, and that my tongue destroy me not?	33 Or chi darà alla bocca mia, guardia, e sopra le labbre mie certo sigillo, sì che io non caggia in quelli, e la lingua mia perisca me?
