1 Unto the end, a psalm for David himself.	1 [Für den Chormeister. Ein Psalm Davids.]
2 Blessed is he that understandeth concerning the needy and the poor : the Lord will deliver him in the evil day.	2 Wohl dem, der sich des Schwachen annimmt; zur Zeit des Unheils wird der Herr ihn retten.
3 The Lord preserve him and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth : and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies.	3 Ihn wird der Herr behüten und am Leben erhalten. Man preist ihn glücklich im Land. Gib ihn nicht seinen gierigen Feinden preis!
4 The Lord help him on his bed of sorrow : thou hast turned all his couch in his sickness.	4 Auf dem Krankenbett wird der Herr ihn stärken; seine Krankheit verwandelst du in Kraft.
5 I said: O Lord, be thou merciful to me : heal my soul, for I have sinned against thee.	5 Ich sagte: Herr, sei mir gnädig, heile mich; denn ich habe gegen dich gesündigt.
6 My enemies have spoken evils against me: when shall he die and his name perish?	6 Meine Feinde reden böse über mich: «Wann stirbt er endlich und wann vergeht sein Name?»
7 And if he came in to see me, he spoke vain things : his heart gathered together iniquity to itself. He went out and spoke to the same purpose.	7 Besucht mich jemand, so kommen seine Worte aus falschem Herzen. Er häuft in sich Bosheit an, dann geht er hinaus und redet.
8 All my enemies whispered together against me : they devised evils to me.	8 Im Hass gegen mich sind sich alle einig; sie tuscheln über mich und sinnen auf Unheil:
9 They determined against me an unjust word : shall he that sleepeth rise again no more?	9 «Verderben hat sich über ihn ergossen; wer einmal daliegt, steht nicht mehr auf.»
10 For even the man of peace, in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, hath greatly supplanted me.	10 Auch mein Freund, dem ich vertraute, der mein Brot aß, hat gegen mich geprahlt.
11 But thou, O Lord, have mercy on me, and raise me up again : and I will requite them.	11 Du aber, Herr, sei mir gnädig; richte mich auf, damit ich ihnen vergelten kann.
12 By this I know, that thou hast had a good will for me : because my enemy shall not rejoice over me.	12 Daran erkenne ich, dass du an mir Gefallen hast: wenn mein Feind nicht über mich triumphieren darf.
13 But thou hast upheld me by reason of my innocence : and hast established me in thy sight for ever.	13 Weil ich aufrichtig bin, hältst du mich fest und stellst mich vor dein Antlitz für immer.
14 Blessed by the Lord the God of Israel from eternity to eternity. So be it. So be it.	14 Gepriesen sei der Herr, der Gott Israels, von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit. Amen, ja amen.
