Job 24

DOUAI-RHEIMSJERUSALEM
Times are not hid from the Almighty: but they that know him, know not his days.1 Pourquoi Shaddaï n'a-t-il pas des temps en réserve, et ses fidèles ne voient-ils pas ses jours?
Some have removed landmarks, have taken away flocks by force, and fed them.2 Les méchants déplacent les bornes, ils enlèvent troupeau et berger.
They have driven away the ass of the fatherless, and have taken away the widow's ox for a pledge.3 On emmène l'âne des orphelins, on prend en gage le boeuf de la veuve.
They have overturned the way of the poor, and have oppressed together the meek of the earth.4 Les indigents s'écartent du chemin, les pauvres du pays se cachent tous de même.
Others like wild asses in the desert go forth to their work: by watching for a prey they get bread for their children.5 Tels les onagres du désert, ils sortent à leur travail, cherchant dès l'aube une proie, et le soir, du painpour leurs petits.
They reap the field that is not their own, and gather the vintage of his vineyard whom by violence they have oppressed.6 Ils moissonnent dans le champ d'un vaurien, ils pillent la vigne d'un méchant.
They send men away naked, taking away their clothes who have no covering in the cold:7 Ils passent la nuit nus, sans vêtements, sans couverture contre le froid.
Who are wet, with the showers of the mountains, and having no covering embrace the stones.8 L'averse des montagnes les transperce; faute d'abri, ils étreignent le rocher.
They have violently robbed the fatherless, and stripped the poor common people.9 On arrache l'orphelin à la mamelle, on prend en gage le nourrisson du pauvre.
From the naked and them that go without clothing, and from the hungry they have taken away the ears of corn.10 Ils s'en vont nus, sans vêtements; affamés, ils portent les gerbes.
They have taken their rest at noon among the stores of them, who after having trodden the winepresses suffer thirst.11 En plein midi ils restent entre deux murettes, altérés, ils foulent les cuves.
Out of the cities they have made men to groan, and the soul of the wounded hath cried out, and God doth not suffer it to pass unrevenged.12 De la ville on entend gémir les mourants, les blessés, dans un souffle, crier à l'aide. Et Dieu restesourd à la prière!
They have been rebellious to the light, they have not known his ways, neither have they returned by his paths.13 D'autres sont de ceux qui repoussent la lumière: ils en méconnaissent les chemins, n'en fréquententpas les sentiers.
The murderer riseth at the very break of day, he killeth the needy, and the poor man: but in the night he will be as a thief.14 Il fait noir quand l'assassin se lève, pour tuer le pauvre et l'indigent. Durant la nuit rôde le voleur,
The eye of the adulterer observeth darkness, saying: No eye shall see me: and he will cover his face.15 L'oeil de l'adultère épie le crépuscule: "Personne ne me verra", dit-il, et il met un voile sur son visage.
He diggeth through houses in the dark, as in the day they had appointed for themselves, and they have not known the light.16 Dans les ténèbres, il perfore les maisons. Pendant le jour, ils se cachent, ceux qui ne veulent pasconnaître la lumière.
If the morning suddenly appear, it is to them the shadow of death: and they walk in darkness as if it were in light.17 Pour eux tous, le matin devient ténèbres, car ils en éprouvent alors les terreurs.
He is light upon the face of the water: cursed be his portion on the earth, let him not walk by the way of the vineyards.18 Ce n'est plus qu'un fétu à la surface des eaux, son domaine est maudit dans le pays, nul ne prend lechemin de sa vigne.
Let him pass from the snow waters to excessive heat, and his sin even to hell.19 Comme une chaleur sèche fait disparaître la neige. Ainsi le shéol celui qui a péché.
Let mercy forget him: may worms be his sweetness: let him be remembered no more, but be broken in pieces as an unfruitful tree.20 Le sein qui l'a formé l'oublie et son nom n'est plus mentionné. Ainsi est foudroyée comme un arbrel'iniquité.
For he hath fed the barren that beareth not, and to the widow he hath done no good.21 Il a maltraité la femme stérile, privée d'enfants, il s'est montré dur pour la veuve.
He hath pulled down the strong by his might: and when he standeth up, he shall not trust to his life.22 Mais Celui qui se saisit des tyrans avec force surgit et lui ôte l'assurance de la vie.
God hath given him place for penance, and he abuseth it unto pride: but his eyes are upon his ways.23 Il le laissait s'appuyer sur une sécurité trompeuse, mais, des yeux, il surveillait ses démarches.
They are lifted up for a little while and shall not stand, and shall be brought down as all things, and shall be taken away, and as the tops of the ears of corn they shall be broken.24 Elevé pour un temps, il disparaît, il s'affaisse comme l'arroche qu'on cueille, il se fane comme la têtedes épis.
And if it be not so, who can convince me that I have lied, and set my words before God?25 N'en est-il pas ainsi? Qui me convaincra de mensonge et réduira mes paroles à néant?
