1 But after that he heard the words of the sons of Laban, saying: Jacob hath taken away all that was our father's, and being enriched by his substance is become great:	1 Jacó ouviu as palavras dos filhos de Labão, que diziam: "Jacó tomou tudo o que é de nosso pai, e é às suas custas que ele se tornou de tal forma rico."
2 And perceiving also that Laban's countenance was not towards him as yesterday and the other day,	2 Observou também, pela fisionomia de Labão, que este não tinha mais para com ele os sentimentos de antes.
3 Especially the Lord saying to him: Return into the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred, and I will be with thee.	3 O Senhor disse a Jacó: "Volta para a terra dos teus pais, para a tua parentela, e eu estarei contigo."
4 He sent, and called Rachel and Lia into the field, where he fed the flocks,	4 Então Jacó mandou Raquel e Lia vir ao campo junto dos seus rebanhos:
5 And said to them: I see your father's countenance is not towards me as yesterday and the other day: but the God of my father hath been with me.	5 "Vejo, disse-lhes ele, pelo semblante de vosso pai, que ele não é mais para comigo o mesmo que antes. Mas o Deus de meu pai está comigo.
6 And you know that I have served your father to the utmost of my power.	6 Sabeis que servi a vosso pai o melhor que pude,
7 Yea, your father also hath overreached me, and hath changes my wages ten times: and yet God hath not suffered him to hurt me.	7 enquanto ele zombou de mim, mudando dez vezes o meu salário; mas Deus não lhe permitiu causar-me prejuízo.
8 If at any time he said: The speckled shall be thy wages: all the sheep brought forth speckled: but when he said on the contrary: Thou shalt take all the white ones for thy wages: all the flocks brought forth white ones.	8 Quando ele dizia: os animais malhados serão o teu salário, todas as ovelhas davam à luz cordeiros malhados, e se dizia: os animais riscados serão o teu salário, todas as ovelhas davam à luz cordeiros riscados.
9 And God hath taken your father's substance, and given it to me.	9 Foi Deus mesmo que tomou o rebanho de vosso pai para me dar.
10 For after that time came of the ewes conceiving, I lifted up my eyes, and saw in my sleep that the males which leaped upon the females were of diverse colors, and spotted, and speckled.	10 No tempo em que os animais deviam conceber, eu levantava os olhos e via em sonhos que os bodes que cobriam as cabras eram listados, malhados e manchados.
11 And the angel of God said to me in my sleep: Jacob? And I answered: Here I am.	11 Um anjo de Deus disse-me em sonhos: Jacó! Eis-me aqui, respondi.
12 And he said: Lift up thy eyes, and see that all the males leaping upon the females, are of divers colors, spotted, and speckled. For I have seen all that Laban hath done to thee.	12 Levanta os olhos e vê: todos os bodes que cobrem as cabras são listados, malhados e manchados, porque eu vi tudo o que te fez Labão.
13 I am the God of Bethel, where thou didst anoint the stone, and make a vow to me. Now therefore arise, and go out of this land, and return into thy native country.	13 Eu sou o Deus de Betel, onde tu me consagraste uma estela e me fizeste um voto. Agora, vamos, sai daqui e volta para a terra de tua família."
14 And Rachel and Lia answered: Have we anything left among the goods and inheritance of our father's house?	14 Raquel e Lia responderam: "Resta-nos porventura ainda alguma parte de herança na casa de nosso pai?
15 Hath he not counted us as strangers and sold us, and eaten up the price of us?	15 Não nos tratou ele como estrangeiras, vendendo-nos e devorando o nosso dinheiro?
16 But God hath taken our father's riches, and delivered them to us, and to our children: wherefore do all that God hath commanded thee.	16 Toda a riqueza, que Deus tomou de nosso pai, é para nós e para nossos filhos. Faze, pois, o que Deus te disse."
17 Then Jacob rose up, and having set his children and wives upon camels, went his way.	17 Levantou-se, pois, Jacó, e fez montar seus filhos e suas mulheres nos camelos.
18 And he took all his substance, and flocks, and whatsoever he had gotten in Mesopotamia, and went forward to Isaac his father to the land of Chanaan.	18 Levou consigo todos os seus rebanhos, todos os bens que tinha ajuntado, o rebanho que lhe pertencia, adquirido em Padã-Arã, e partiu para junto de seu pai Isaac, na terra de Canaã.
19 At that time Laban was gone to shear his sheep, and Rachel stole away her father's idols.	19 Raquel, aproveitando um momento em que seu pai fora tosquiar suas ovelhas, roubou os terafim de seu pai;
20 And Jacob would not confess to his father in law that he was flying away.	20 e Jacó enganou Labão, o arameu, ocultando-lhe sua fuga.
21 And when he was gone, together with all that belonged to him, and having passed the river, was going on towards mount Galaad,	21 Fugindo, pois, com tudo o que era seu, atravessou o rio e dirigiu-se para a montanha de Galaad.
22 It was told Laban on the third day that Jacob fled.	22 Três dias depois, soube Labão da fuga de Jacó.
23 And he took his brethren with him, and pursued after him seven days; and overtook him in the mount of Galaad.	23 E, tomando consigo seus irmãos, perseguiu-o durante sete dias de marcha, e alcançou-o na montanha de Galaad.
24 And he saw in a dream God saying to him: Take heed thou speak not any thing harshly against Jacob.	24 Deus, porém, apareceu num sonho noturno a Labão, o arameu, e disse-lhe: "Guarda-te de dizer algo a Jacó."
25 Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mountain: and when he with his brethren had overtaken him, he pitched his tent in the same mount of Galaad.	25 Labão alcançou, pois, Jacó. Este havia levantado sua tenda na montanha, enquanto Labão e seus irmãos tinham plantado a sua na montanha de Galaad.
26 And he said to Jacob: Why hast thou done thus, to carry away, without my knowledge, my daughters, as captives taken with the sword.	26 Labão disse a Jacó: "Que fizeste? Tu me enganaste, e conduziste minhas filhas como prisioneiras de guerra!
27 Why wouldst thou run away privately and not acquaint me, that I might have brought thee on the way with joy, and with songs, and with timbrels, and with harps?	27 Por que fugiste dessa forma, e me lograste em lugar de me avisar? Eu te teria despedido com manifestações de júbilo e com cânticos, ao som do tamborim e da harpa.
28 Thou hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and daughters: thou hast done foolishly: and now, indeed,	28 Não me deixaste beijar meus filhos e minhas filhas! Procedeste como um insensato.
29 It is in my power to return thee evil: but the God of your father said to me yesterday: Take heed thou speak not any things harshly against Jacob.	29 Eu poderia agora fazer-vos mal, mas o Deus de teu pai disse-me na última noite: Guarda-te de dizer algo a Jacó.
30 Suppose thou didst desire to go to thy friends, and hadst a longing after thy father's house: why hast thou stolen away my gods?	30 E, se partiste somente porque tinhas saudade da casa paterna, então por que roubaste os meus deuses?"
31 Jacob answered: That I departed unknown to thee, it was for fear lest thou wouldst take away thy daughters by force.	31 Jacó respondeu-lhe: "Tive medo, ao pensar que poderias tirar-me tuas filhas;
32 But whereas thou chargest me with theft: with whomsoever thou shalt find thy gods, let him be slain before our brethren. Search, and if thou find any of thy things with me, take them away. Now when he said this, he knew not that Rachel had stolen the idols.	32 quanto aos teus deuses, porém, seja morto aquele que os tiver consigo! Examina o que está comigo, em presença de nossos parentes, e retoma o que é teu." Ora, Jacó ignorava o roubo de Raquel.
33 So Laban went into the tent of Jacob, and of Lia, and of both the handmaids, and found them not. And when he was entered into Rachel's tent,	33 Labão entrou na tenda de Jacó, na de Lia e na das duas escravas, mas nada encontrou. Saindo da tenda de Lia, entrou na de Raquel.
34 She in haste hid the idols under the camel's furniture, and sat upon them: and when he had searched all the tent, and found nothing,	34 Esta havia tomado os terafim e, colocando-os na sela do camelo, sentou-se em cima. Labão revistou toda a tenda, sem nada encontrar.
35 She said: Let not my lord be angry that I cannot rise up before thee, because it has now happened to me, according to the custom of women, So his careful search was in vain.	35 Raquel disse ao seu pai: "Não se irrite o meu senhor, se não posso levantar-me em sua presença, pois acho-me agora com a indisposição que costuma vir às mulheres." Revistou, pois, mas não encontrou os terafim.
36 And jacob being angry, said in a chiding manner: For what fault of mine, and for what offense on my part hast thou so hotly pursued me,	36 Jacó encolerizou-se então contra Labão, e acabrunhou-o de censuras: "Qual é o meu crime?, disse-lhe ele. Qual é o meu pecado, para que te irrites desse modo contra mim?
37 And searched all my household stuff? What hast thou found of all the substance of thy house? lay it here before my brethren, and thy brethren, and let them judge between me and thee.	37 Revistaste todas as minhas bagagens: que encontraste do que é teu? Mostra-me aqui em presença de meus parentes e dos teus, e sejam eles juízes entre nós dois.
38 Have I therefore been with thee twenty years? thy ewes and goats were not barren, the rams of thy flocks I did not eat:	38 Há vinte anos que estou em tua casa: tuas ovelhas e tuas cabras não abortaram, não comi os carneiros do teu rebanho.
39 Neither did I show thee that which the beast had torn, I made good all the damage: whatsoever was lost by theft, thou didst exact it of me:	39 Nunca te trouxe os animais estraçalhados pelas feras. Eu os repunha, pois tu o exigias, quer fossem roubados de dia, quer de noite.
40 Day and night was I parched with heat, and with frost, and sleep departed from my eyes.	40 Eu era queimado de dia pelo calor, e de noite pelo frio, e o sono fugia dos meus olhos.
41 And in this manner have I served thee in thy house twenty years, fourteen for thy daughters, and six for thy flocks: thou hast changed also my wages ten times.	41 Eis já vinte anos que estou em tua casa; servi-te catorze anos por tuas duas filhas, seis anos pelos teus rebanhos, e dez vezes modificaste o meu salário.
42 Unless the God of my father Abraham, and the fear of Isaac had stood by me, peradventure now thou hadst sent me away naked: God beheld my affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked thee yesterday.	42 Se o Deus de meu pai, o Deus de Abraão, o Deus terrível de Isaac não se tivesse posto de meu lado, tu me terias hoje despedido com as mãos vazias. Deus viu minhas penas e meus trabalhos, e na última noite ele pronunciou-se.
43 Laban answered him: The daughters are mine and the children, and thy flocks, and all things that thou seest are mine: what can I do to my children, and grandchildren?	43 Labão respondeu a Jacó: "Estas filhas são minhas filhas, estes filhos, meus filhos, e estes rebanhos, meus rebanhos: tudo o que vês é meu. Que farei eu agora contra minhas filhas, ou contra os filhos que elas deram ao mundo?
44 Come therefore, let us enter into a league: that it may be for a testimony between me and thee.	44 Vamos, façamos juntos um pacto que nos sirva de testemunho a nós dois."
45 And Jacob took a stone, and set it up for a title:	45 Jacó tomou uma pedra e erigiu-a em estela,
46 And he said to his brethren: Bring hither stones. And they gathering stones together, made a heap, and they ate upon it.	46 e disse aos seus parentes: "Trazei pedras." E, tendo juntado muitas, fizeram um monte, sobre o qual comeram.
47 And Laban called it The witness heap: and Jacob, The hillock of testimony: each of them according to the propriety of his language.	47 Labão chamou-o Yegar-Saaduta, e Jacó, Galaad.
48 And Laban said: This heap shall be a witness between me and thee this day, and therefore the name thereof was called Galaad, that is, The witness heap.	48 Labão disse: "Este monte é hoje testemunha entre mim e ti",e por isso deu-se-lhe o nome de Galaad,
49 The Lord behold and judge between us when we shall be gone one from the other.	49 e também Mitspa, porque Labão disse ainda: "Que o Senhor nos vigie a nós ambos, quando nós nos tivermos despedido um do outro.
50 If thou afflict my daughters, and if thou bring in other wives over them: none is witness of our speech but God, who is present and beholdeth.	50 Se maltratares minhas filhas, e se tomares outras mulheres além delas, não é um homem que estará conosco. Mas toma cuidado, pois é Deus que será testemunha entre nós."
51 And he said again to Jacob: Behold, this heap, and the stone which I have set up between me and thee,	51 Labão disse ainda a Jacó: "Vês este monte de pedras e esta estela que levantei entre mim e ti.
52 Shall be a witness: this heap, I say, and the stone, be they for a testimony, if either I shall pass beyond it going towards thee, or thou shalt pass beyond it, thinking harm to me.	52 Este monte é testemunho, e igualmente esta estela, de que eu não ultrapassarei este monte para o teu lado, e que tu não ultrapassarás este monte e esta estela para o meu lado para nos fazer mal.
53 The God of Abraham, and the God of Nachor, the God of their father, judge between us. And jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac.	53 O Deus de Abraão, o Deus de Nacor, o Deus de seus pais seja juiz entre nós!" E Jacó jurou pelo Deus terrível de Isaac.
54 And after he had offered sacrifices in the mountain, he called his brethren to eat bread. And when they had eaten, they lodged there:	54 Ofereceu um sacrifício sobre a montanha e convidou seus parentes para comer. Comeram e passaram a noite na montanha.
55 But laban arose in the night, and kissed his sons, and daughters, and blessed them: and returned to his place.	55 No dia seguinte pela manhã, Labão beijou seus filhos e suas filhas; abençoou-os e retomou o caminho de sua casa.
