DOUAI-RHEIMSJERUSALEM
And the Lord said to Abram: Go forth out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and out of they father's house, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.1 Yahvé dit à Abram: "Quitte ton pays, ta parenté et la maison de ton père, pour le pays que jet'indiquerai.
And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and magnify thy name, and thou shalt be blessed.2 Je ferai de toi un grand peuple, je te bénirai, je magnifierai ton nom; sois une bénédiction!
I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curse thee, and IN THEE shall all the kindred of the earth be blessed:3 Je bénirai ceux qui te béniront, je réprouverai ceux qui te maudiront. Par toi se béniront tous lesclans de la terre."
So Abram went out as the Lord had commanded him, and Lot went with him: Abram was seventy-five years old when he went forth from Haran.4 Abram partit, comme lui avait dit Yahvé, et Lot partit avec lui. Abram avait 75 ans lorsqu'il quittaHarân.
And he took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all the substance which they had gathered, and the souls which they had gotten in Haran: and they went out to go into the land of Chanaan. And when they were come into it,5 Abram prit sa femme Saraï, son neveu Lot, tout l'avoir qu'ils avaient amassé et le personnel qu'ilsavaient acquis à Harân; ils se mirent en route pour le pays de Canaan et ils y arrivèrent.
Abram passed through the country into the place of Sichem, as far as the noble vale: now the Chanaanite was at that time in the land.6 Abram traversa le pays jusqu'au lieu saint de Sichem, au Chêne de Moré. Les Cananéens étaientalors dans le pays.
And the Lord appeared to Abram, and said to him: To thy seed will I give this land. And he built there an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.7 Yahvé apparut à Abram et dit: "C'est à ta postérité que je donnerai ce pays." Et là, Abram bâtit unautel à Yahvé qui lui était apparu.
And passing on from thence to a mountain, that was on the east side of Bethel, he there pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east; he built there also an altar to the Lord, and called upon his name.8 Il passa de là dans la montagne, à l'orient de Béthel, et il dressa sa tente, ayant Béthel à l'ouest et Aïà l'est. Là, il bâtit un autel à Yahvé et il invoqua son nom.
And Abram went forward, going, and proceeding on to the south.9 Puis, de campement en campement, Abram alla au Négeb.
And there came a famine in the country; and Abram went down into Egypt, to sojourn there: for the famine was very grievous in the land.10 Il y eut une famine dans le pays et Abram descendit en Egypte pour y séjourner, car la faminepesait lourdement sur le pays.
And when he was near to enter into Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife: I know that thou art a beautiful woman:11 Lorsqu'il fut près d'entrer en Egypte, il dit à sa femme Saraï: "Vois-tu, je sais que tu es une femmede belle apparence.
And that when the Egyptians shall see thee, they will say: She is his wife: and they will kill me, and keep thee.12 Quand les Egyptiens te verront, ils diront: "C'est sa femme", et ils me tueront et te laisseront envie.
Say, therefore, I pray thee, that thou art my sister: that I may be well used for thee, and that my soul may live for thy sake.13 Dis, je te prie, que tu es ma sœur, pour qu'on me traite bien à cause de toi et qu'on me laisse en viepar égard pour toi."
And when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians saw the woman that she was very beautiful.14 De fait, quand Abram arriva en Egypte, les Egyptiens virent que la femme était très belle.
And the princes told Pharao, and praised her before him: and the woman was taken into the house of Pharao.15 Les officiers de Pharaon la virent et la vantèrent à Pharaon; et la femme fut emmenée au palais dePharaon.
And they used Abram well for her sake. And he had sheep and oxen, and he asses, and menservants and maidservants, and she asses, and camels.16 Celui-ci traita bien Abram à cause d'elle: il eut du petit et du gros bétail, des ânes, des esclaves, des servantes, des ânesses, des chameaux.
But the Lord scourged Pharao and his house with most grievous stripes for Sarai, Abram's wife.17 Mais Yahvé frappa Pharaon de grandes plaies, et aussi sa maison, à propos de Saraï, la femmed'Abram.
And Pharao called Abram, and said to him: What is this that thou hast done to me? Why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife.18 Pharaon appela Abram et dit: "Qu'est-ce que tu m'as fait? Pourquoi ne m'as-tu pas déclaré qu'elleétait ta femme?
For what cause didst thou say, she was thy sister, that I might take her to my wife? Now therefore, there is thy wife, take her, and go thy way.19 Pourquoi as-tu dit: Elle est ma sœur! en sorte que je l'ai prise pour femme. Maintenant, voilà tafemme: prends-la et va-t'en!"
And Pharao gave his men orders concerning Abram: and they led him away, and his wife, and all that he had.20 Pharaon le confia à des hommes qui le reconduisirent à la frontière, lui, sa femme et tout ce qu'ilpossédait.
