Prima lettera ai Corinzi 11

DIODATI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Siate miei imitatori, siccome io ancora lo son di Cristo.	1 Take me as your pattern, just as I take Christ for mine.
2 OR io vi lodo, fratelli, di ciò che vi ricordate di me in ogni cosa; e che ritenete gli ordinamenti, secondo che io ve li ho dati.	2 I congratulate you for remembering me so consistently and for maintaining the traditions exactly as Ipassed them on to you.
3 Ma io voglio che sappiate, che il capo d’ogni uomo è Cristo, e che il capo della donna è l’uomo, e che il capo di Cristo è Iddio.	3 But I should like you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man,and the head of Christ is God.
4 Ogni uomo, orando, o profetizzando, col capo coperto, fa vergogna al suo capo.	4 For any man to pray or to prophesy with his head covered shows disrespect for his head.
5 Ma ogni donna, orando, o profetizzando, col capo scoperto, fa vergogna al suo capo; perciocchè egli è una medesima cosa che se fosse rasa.	5 And for a woman to pray or prophesy with her head uncovered shows disrespect for her head; it isexactly the same as if she had her hair shaved off.
6 Imperocchè, se la donna non si vela, si tagli anche i capelli! Ora se è cosa disonesta per la donna il tagliarsi i capelli, o il radersi il capo, si veli.	6 Indeed, if a woman does go without a veil, she should have her hair cut off too; but if it is a shamefulthing for a woman to have her hair cut off or shaved off, then she should wear a veil.
7 Poichè, quant’è all’uomo, egli non deve velarsi il capo, essendo l’immagine, e la gloria di Dio; ma la donna è la gloria dell’uomo.	7 But for a man it is not right to have his head covered, since he is the image of God and reflects God'sglory; but woman is the reflection of man's glory.
8 Perciocchè l’uomo non è dalla donna, ma la donna dall’uomo.	8 For man did not come from woman; no, woman came from man;
9 Imperocchè ancora l’uomo non fu creato per la donna, ma la donna per l’uomo.	9 nor was man created for the sake of woman, but woman for the sake of man:
10 Perciò, la donna deve, per cagion degli angeli, aver sul capo un segno della podestà da cui dipende.	10 and this is why it is right for a woman to wear on her head a sign of the authority over her, becauseof the angels.
11 Nondimeno, nè l’uomo è senza la donna, nè la donna senza l’uomo, nel Signore.	11 However, in the Lord, though woman is nothing without man, man is nothing without woman;
12 Perciocchè, siccome la donna è dall’uomo, così ancora l’uomo è per la donna; ed ogni cosa è da Dio.	12 and though woman came from man, so does every man come from a woman, and everything comesfrom God.
13 Giudicate fra voi stessi: è egli convenevole che la donna faccia orazione a Dio, senza esser velata?	13 Decide for yourselves: does it seem fitting that a woman should pray to God without a veil?
14 La natura stessa non v’insegna ella ch’egli è disonore all’uomo se egli porta chioma?	14 Does not nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him,
15 Ma, se la donna porta chioma, che ciò le è onore? poichè la chioma le è data per velo.	15 but when a woman has long hair, it is her glory? After all, her hair was given to her to be a covering.
16 Ora, se alcuno vuol parer contenzioso, noi, nè le chiese di Dio, non abbiamo una tale usanza	16 If anyone wants to be contentious, I say that we have no such custom, nor do any of the churches ofGod.
17 OR io non vi lodo in questo, ch’io vi dichiaro, cioè, che voi vi raunate non in meglio, ma in peggio.	17 Now that I am on the subject of instructions, I cannot congratulate you on the meetings you hold;they do more harm than good.
18 Perciocchè prima, intendo che quando vi raunate nella chiesa, vi son fra voi delle divisioni; e ne credo qualche parte.	18 In the first place, I hear that when you al come together in your assembly, there are separatefactions among you, and to some extent I believe it.
19 Poichè bisogna che vi sieno eziandio delle sette fra voi, acciocchè coloro che sono accettevoli, sien manifestati fra voi.	19 It is no bad thing, either, that there should be differing groups among you so that those who are to betrusted among you can be clearly recognised.
20 Quando adunque voi vi raunate insieme, ciò che fate non è mangiar la Cena del Signore.	20 So, when you meet together, it is not the Lord's Supper that you eat;
21 Perciocchè, nel mangiare, ciascuno prende innanzi la sua propria cena; e l’uno ha fame, e l’altro è ebbro.	21 for when the eating begins, each one of you has his own supper first, and there is one going hungrywhile another is getting drunk.
22 Perciocchè, non avete voi delle case per mangiare, e per bere? ovvero, sprezzate voi la chiesa di Dio, e fate vergogna a quelli che non hanno? che dirovvi? loderovvi in ciò? io non vi lodo	22 Surely you have homes for doing your eating and drinking in? Or have you such disregard for God'sassembly that you can put to shame those who have nothing? What am I to say to you? Congratulate you? Onthis I cannot congratulate you.
23 Poichè io ho dal Signore ricevuto ciò che ancora ho dato a voi, cioè: che il Signore Gesù, nella notte ch’egli fu tradito, prese del pane;	23 For the tradition I received from the Lord and also handed on to you is that on the night he wasbetrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread,
24 e dopo aver rese grazie, lo ruppe, e disse: Pigliate, mangiate; quest’è il mio corpo, il qual per voi è rotto; fate questo in rammemorazione di me.	24 and after he had given thanks, he broke it, and he said, 'This is my body, which is for you; do this inremembrance of me.'
25 Parimente ancora prese il calice, dopo aver cenato, dicendo: Questo calice è il nuovo patto nel sangue mio; fate questo, ogni volta che voi ne berrete, in rammemorazione di me.	25 And in the same way, with the cup after supper, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood.Whenever you drink it, do this as a memorial of me.'
26 Perciocchè, ogni volta che voi avrete mangiato di questo pane, o bevuto di questo calice, voi annunzierete la morte del Signore, finchè egli venga.	26 Whenever you eat this bread, then, and drink this cup, you are proclaiming the Lord's death until hecomes.
27 Perciò, chiunque avrà mangiato questo pane, o bevuto il calice del Signore, indegnamente, sarà colpevole del corpo, e del sangue del Signore.	27 Therefore anyone who eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily is answerable for thebody and blood of the Lord.
28 Or provi l’uomo sè stesso, e così mangi di questo pane, e beva di questo calice.	28 Everyone is to examine himself and only then eat of the bread or drink from the cup;
29 Poichè chi ne mangia, e beve indegnamente, mangia e beve giudicio a sè stesso, non discernendo il corpo del Signore.	29 because a person who eats and drinks without recognising the body is eating and drinking his owncondemnation.
30 Perciò fra voi vi son molti infermi, e malati; e molti dormono.	30 That is why many of you are weak and il and a good number have died.
31 Perciocchè, se esaminassimo noi stessi, non saremmo giudicati.	31 If we were critical of ourselves we would not be condemned,
32 Ora, essendo giudicati, siamo dal Signore corretti, acciocchè non siamo condannati col mondo.	32 but when we are judged by the Lord, we are corrected by the Lord to save us from being condemnedalong with the world.
33 Per tanto, fratelli miei, raunandovi per mangiare, aspettatevi gli uni gli altri.	33 So then, my brothers, when you meet for the Meal, wait for each other;
34 E se alcuno ha fame, mangi in casa; acciocchè non vi rauniate in giudicio. Or quant’è alle altre cose, io ne disporrò, quando sarà venuto	34 anyone who is hungry should eat at home. Then your meeting wil not bring your condemnation. Theother matters I shal arrange when I come.
