1 POI il Signore parlò a Mosè, dicendo:	1 The LORD said to Moses,
2 Fa’ la vendetta de’ figliuoli d’Israele sopra i Madianiti; e poi tu sarai raccolto a’ tuoi popoli.	2 "Avenge the Israelites on the Midianites, and then you shall be taken to your people."
3 E Mosè parlò al popolo, dicendo: Mettasi in ordine un certo numero di voi, per andare alla guerra, e vadano contro a Madian, per far la vendetta del Signore sopra Madian.	3 So Moses told the people, "Select men from your midst and arm them for war, to attack the Midianites and execute the LORD'S vengeance on them.
4 Mandate a questa guerra mille uomini per ciascuna di tutte le tribù d’Israele.	4 From each of the tribes of Israel you shall send a band of one thousand men to war."
5 Così furono dati mille uomini per ciascuna tribù, d’infra le migliaia d’Israele, che furono in tutto dodicimila uomini in ordine per la guerra.	5 From the clans of Israel, therefore, a thousand men of each tribe were levied, so that there were twelve thousand men armed for war.
6 E Mosè mandò alla guerra que’ mille uomini di ciascuna tribù, e con loro Finees, figliuolo del Sacerdote Eleazaro, il quale avea in mano gli arredi del Santuario, e le trombe da sonare	6 Moses sent them out on the campaign, a thousand from each tribe, with Phinehas, son of Eleazar, the priest for the campaign, who had with him the sacred vessels and the trumpets for sounding the alarm.
7 Ed essi fecero guerra contro a Madian, siccome il Signore avea comandato a Mosè, e uccisero tutti i maschi.	7 They waged war against the Midianites, as the LORD had commanded Moses, and killed every male among them.
8 Uccisero ancora fra’ loro uccisi i re di Madian, Evi, e Rechem, e Sur, e Hur, e Reba, i cinque re di Madian; uccisero eziando con la spada Balaam, figliuolo di Beor.	8 Besides those slain in battle, they killed the five Midianite kings: Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur and Reba; and they also executed Balaam, son of Beor, with the sword.
9 E i figliuoli d’Israele ne menarono prigioni le donne di Madian, e i lor piccoli fanciulli; e predarono tutto il lor grosso e minuto bestiame, e tutte le lor facoltà.	9 But the Israelites kept the women of the Midianites with their little ones as captives, and all their herds and flocks and wealth as spoil,
10 E bruciarono col fuoco tutte le lor città, nelle loro stanze; e tutte le lor castella.	10 while they set on fire all the towns where they had settled and all their encampments.
11 E presero tutte le spoglie e tutta la preda, così degli uomini, come degli animali.	11 Then they took all the booty, with the people and beasts they had captured, and brought the captives, together with the spoils and booty,
12 E addussero a Mosè e al Sacerdote Eleazaro, e alla raunanza de’ figliuoli d’Israele, i prigioni e la preda, e le spoglie, nel campo, nelle campagne di Moab, che sono lungo il Giordano di Gerico	12 to Moses and the priest Eleazar and to the Israelite community at their camp on the plains of Moab, along the Jericho stretch of the Jordan.
13 E Mosè, e il Sacerdote Eleazaro e tutti i Capi della raunanza, uscirono loro incontro fuor del campo.	13 When Moses and the priest Eleazar, with all the princes of the community, went outside the camp to meet them,
14 E Mosè si adirò gravemente contro a’ condottieri dell’esercito, Capi di migliaia, e Capi di centinaia, che ritornavano da quella guerra.	14 Moses became angry with the officers of the army, the clan and company commanders, who were returning from combat.
15 E Mosè disse loro: Avete voi scampata la vita a tutte le femmine?	15 "So you have spared all the women!" he exclaimed.
16 Ecco, esse furono quelle che, secondo la parola di Balaam, servirono a porgere a’ figliuoli d’Israele cagione di misfatto contro al Signore, nel fatto di Peor; onde fu quella piaga nella raunanza del Signore.	16 "Why, they are the very ones who on Balaam's advice prompted the unfaithfulness of the Israelites toward the LORD in the Peor affair, which began the slaughter of the LORD'S community.
17 Ora dunque uccidete tutti i maschi d’infra i piccoli fanciulli; uccidete parimente ogni femmina che ha conosciuto carnalmente uomo.	17 Slay, therefore, every male child and every woman who has had intercourse with a man.
18 E serbatevi in vita tutte le femmine che son di piccola età, le quali non hanno conosciuto carnalmente uomo.	18 But you may spare and keep for yourselves all girls who had no intercourse with a man.
19 E voi, campeggiate per sette giorni fuor del campo. Ogni persona, così d’infra voi, come d’infra i vostri prigioni, che avrà ucciso alcuno, e avrà tocco alcuno ucciso, purifichisi al terzo, e al settimo giorno.	19 "Moreover, you shall stay outside the camp for seven days, and those of you who have slain anyone or touched anyone slain in battle shall purify yourselves on the third and on the seventh day. This applies both to you and to your captives.
20 Purificate parimente ogni vestimento, e ogni arnese fatto di pelle, e ogni lavorio fatto di pel di capra, e ogni vasello di legno.	20 You shall also purify every article of cloth, leather, goats' hair, or wood."
21 E il Sacerdote Eleazaro disse alla gente di guerra, ch’era andata a quella guerra: Questo è lo statuto di legge che il Signore ha comandato a Mosè.	21 Eleazar the priest told the soldiers who had returned from combat: "This is what the law, as prescribed by the LORD to Moses, ordains:
22 Ma fate passar per lo fuoco l’oro, l’argento, il rame, il ferro, lo stagno, e il piombo,	22 Whatever can stand fire, such as gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin and lead,
23 e in somma tutto ciò che può portare il fuoco; e così sarà netto; ma pure ancora sia purificato con l’acqua di purificazione; e tutto ciò che non può portare il fuoco, fatelo passar per l’acqua.	23 you shall put into the fire, that it may become clean; however, it must also be purified with lustral water. But whatever cannot stand fire you shall put into the water.
24 E lavate i vostri vestimenti al settimo giorno, e sarete netti, e poi potrete entrar nel campo	24 On the seventh day you shall wash your clothes, and then you will again be clean. After that you may enter the camp."
25 Il Signore parlò ancora a Mosè, dicendo:	25 The LORD said to Moses:
26 Tu, e il Sacerdote Eleazaro, e i Capi delle nazioni paterne della raunanza, levate la somma delle persone che sono state menate prigioni, e del bestiame ch’è stato predato;	26 "With the help of the priest Eleazar and of the heads of the ancestral houses, count up all the human captives and the beasts that have been taken;
27 e partisci la preda per la metà, fra la gente di guerra ch’è andata a questa guerra, e tutta la raunanza.	27 then divide them evenly, giving half to those who took active part in the war by going out to combat, and half to the rest of the community.
28 E leva, della gente di guerra, ch’è andata a questa guerra, un tributo per lo Signore, una testa di cinquecento, degli uomini, de’ buoi, degli asini, e delle pecore.	28 You shall levy a tax for the LORD on the warriors who went out to combat: one out of every five hundred persons, oxen, asses and sheep
29 Prendete quel tributo della metà che appartiene loro; e dallo al Sacerdote Eleazaro per un’offerta al Signore.	29 in their half of the spoil you shall turn over to the priest Eleazar as a contribution to the LORD.
30 E, della metà appartenente ai figliuoli d’Israele, prendi uno, tratto di cinquanta, degli uomini, de’ buoi, degli asini, delle pecore, e in somma di tutto il bestiame; e da’ quelli a’ Leviti che fanno la fazione del Tabernacolo del Signore.	30 From the Israelites' half you shall take one out of every fifty persons, and the same from the different beasts, oxen, asses and sheep, and give them to the Levites, who have charge of the LORD'S Dwelling."
31 E Mosè e il Sacerdote Eleazaro fecero come il Signore avea comandato a Mosè.	31 So Moses and the priest Eleazar did this, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
32 Or la preda, cioè il rimasto della preda, che la gente ch’era andata a quella guerra avea fatta, fu di seicensettanta cinquemila pecore,	32 This booty, what was left of the loot which the soldiers had taken, amounted to six hundred and seventy-five thousand sheep,
33 e di settantaduemila buoi,	33 seventy-two thousand oxen,
34 e di settantunmila asini.	34 sixty-one thousand asses,
35 E quanto all’anime umane, le femmine che non aveano carnalmente conosciuto uomo, furono in tutto trentaduemila anime.	35 and thirty-two thousand girls who were still virgins.
36 E la metà, cioè la parte di coloro ch’erano andati a quella guerra, fu di trecentrenta settemila cinquecento pecore,	36 The half that fell to those who had gone out to combat was: three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,
37 delle quali il tributo per lo Signore fu di seicensettanta cinque pecore;	37 of which six hundred and seventy-five fell as tax to the LORD;
38 e di trentaseimila buoi, de’ quali il tributo per lo Signore fu di settantadue buoi;	38 thirty-six thousand oxen, of which seventy-two fell as tax to the LORD;
39 e di trentamila cinquecento asini, de’ quali il tributo per lo Signore fu di sessantun asini;	39 thirty thousand five hundred asses, of which sixty-one fell as tax to the LORD;
40 e di sedicimila anime umane; delle quali il tributo per lo Signore fu di trentadue anime.	40 and sixteen thousand persons, of whom thirty-two fell as tax to the LORD.
41 E Mosè diede il tributo, levato per offerta al Signore, al Sacerdote Eleazaro, come il Signore gli avea comandato.	41 The taxes contributed to the LORD, Moses gave to the priest Eleazar, as the LORD had commanded him.
42 E della metà appartenente a’ figliuoli d’Israele, secondo che Mosè avea partito per metà, fra loro, e quelli ch’erano andati a quella guerra;	42 The half for the other Israelites, which fell to the community when Moses had taken it from the soldiers, was:
43 or la metà appartenente alla raunanza fu di trecentrenta settemila cinquecento pecore,	43 three hundred and thirty-seven thousand five hundred sheep,
44 e di trentaseimila buoi,	44 thirty-six thousand oxen,
45 e di trentamila cinquecento asini,	45 thirty thousand five hundred asses,
46 e di sedicimila anime umane;	46 and sixteen thousand persons.
47 di questa metà, appartenente a’ figliuoli d’Israele, Mosè prese uno, tratto di cinquanta, così degli uomini, come degli animali; e diede quelli a’ Leviti che fanno la fazione del Tabernacolo del Signore; come il Signore avea comandato a Mosè	47 From this, the Israelites' share, Moses, as the LORD had ordered, took one out of every fifty, both of persons and of beasts, and gave them to the Levites, who had charge of the LORD'S Dwelling.
48 E i condottieri delle migliaia di quell’esercito, Capi di migliaia, e Capi di centinaia, si accostarono a Mosè;	48 Then the officers who had been clan and company commanders of the army came up to Moses
49 e gli dissero: I tuoi servitori hanno fatta la rassegna della gente di guerra ch’era sotto la nostra condotta, e non ne manca pure uno.	49 and said to him, "Your servants have counted up the soldiers under our command, and not one is missing.
50 Perciò noi offeriamo per offerta al Signore, ciascuno ciò che gli è caduto in mano, di vasellamenti d’oro, di cerchielli da gamba, di maniglie, d’anella, e di fermagli, per pagare il riscatto delle nostre persone, davanti al Signore.	50 So, to make atonement for ourselves before the LORD, each of us will bring as an offering to the LORD some gold article he has picked up, such as an anklet, a bracelet, a ring, an earring, or a necklace."
51 E Mosè e il Sacerdote Eleazaro presero da loro tutto quell’oro, tutto lavorato in vasellamenti, e monili.	51 Moses and the priest Eleazar accepted this gold from them, all of it in well-wrought articles.
52 E tutto l’oro dell’offerta, che fu offerto al Signore da’ Capi delle migliaia, e da’ Capi delle centinaia, fu di peso di sedicimila settecencinquanta sicli.	52 The gold that they gave as a contribution to the LORD amounted in all to sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels. This was from the clan and company commanders;
53 Ma la gente di guerra guardò per sè ciò che ciascuno avea predato.	53 what the common soldiers had looted each one kept for himself.
54 E Mosè e il Sacerdote Eleazaro presero quell’oro da’ Capi delle migliaia, e delle centinaia, e lo portarono nel Tabernacolo della convenenza, per ricordanza per li figliuoli d’Israele, nel cospetto del Signore	54 Moses, then, and the priest Eleazar accepted the gold from the clan and company commanders, and put it in the meeting tent as a memorial for the Israelites before the LORD.
