1 Amasías tenía veinticinco años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó veintinueve años en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Iehoadán, y era de Jerusalén.	1 Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother, named Jehoaddan, was from Jerusalem.
2 El hizo lo que es recto a los ojos del Señor, aunque no de todo corazón.	2 He did what was pleasing in the sight of the LORD, though not wholeheartedly.
3 Cuando su poder real quedó plenamente afianzado, mató a los servidores que habían dado muerte al rey, su padre.	3 After he had strengthened his hold on the kingdom, he slew those of his servants who had killed the king, his father;
4 Pero no hizo morir a los hijos de ellos, cumpliendo lo que está en la Ley, en el libro de Moisés, donde el Señor prescribió lo siguiente: «Los padres no morirán por las culpas de los hijos, ni los hijos por las de los padres, sino que cada uno morirá por su propio pecado».	4 but he did not put their children to death, for he acted according to what is written in the law, in the Book of Moses, as the LORD commanded: "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor children for their fathers; but only for his own guilt shall a man be put to death."
5 Amasías reunió a la gente de Judá y puso al frente de todo Judá y de Benjamín, agrupados por familias, jefes de mil y de cien hombres. Registró a los que tenían más de veinte años, y comprobó que había trescientos mil guerreros aptos para salir en campaña, armados de lanza y escudo.	5 Amaziah mustered Judah and placed them, out of all Judah and Benjamin according to their ancestral houses, under leaders of thousands and of hundreds. When he had counted those of twenty years and over, he found them to be three hundred thousand picked men fit for war, capable of handling lance and shield.
6 Luego reclutó cien mil mercenarios de Israel, por cien talentos de plata.	6 He also hired a hundred thousand valiant warriors from Israel for a hundred talents of silver.
7 Pero un hombre de Dios se presentó ante él y le dijo: «Que no vaya contigo, rey, un ejército de Israel, porque el Señor no está con Israel, con esos efraimitas.	7 But a man of God came to him and said: "O king, let not the army of Israel go with you, for the LORD is not with Israel, with any Ephraimite.
8 Si ellos te acompañan, por más que luches valerosamente, Dios te hará caer ante el enemigo. Porque es Dios el que tiene poder para socorrer y derribar».	8 Instead, go on your own, strongly prepared for the conflict; otherwise the LORD will defeat you in the face of the enemy. It is God who has the power to reinforce or to defeat."
9 Pero Amasías dijo al hombre de Dios: «¿Y qué pasa con los cien talentos de plata que entregué a la tropa de Israel?». El hombre de Dios respondió: «El Señor puede darte mucho más».	9 Amaziah answered the man of God, "But what is to be done about the hundred talents that I paid for the troops of Israel?" The man of God replied, "The LORD can give you much more than that."
10 Entonces Amasías licenció a la tropa que había venido de Efraím, para que se fueran a su tierra. Ellos se indignaron contra Judá y volvieron enfurecidos a su tierra.	10 Amaziah then disbanded the troops that had come to him from Ephraim, and sent them home. They, however, became furiously angry with Judah, and returned home blazing with resentment.
11 Amasías se sintió fuerte ya avanzó al frente de sus tropas hasta el valle de la Sal, donde mató a diez mil hombres de Seír.	11 Amaziah now assumed command of his army. They proceeded to the Valley of Salt, and there they killed ten thousand men of Seir.
12 Los hombres de Judá capturaron vivo a otros diez mil y los llevaron hasta la cumbre de La Roca. Desde allí los despeñaron, y todos murieron destrozados.	12 The Judahites also brought back another ten thousand alive, whom they led to the summit of the Rock and then cast down, so that they were all crushed.
13 Mientras tanto, las tropas que Amasías había despedido para que no fueran con él a la guerra, invadieron las ciudades de Judá, desde Samaría hasta Bet Jorón, y mataron a tres mil personas, recogiendo además un gran botín.	13 Meanwhile, the mercenaries whom Amaziah had dismissed from battle service with him raided the cities of Judah from Samaria to Beth-horon. They killed three thousand of the inhabitants and took away much booty.
14 Después que Amasías volvió de derrotar a los edomitas, introdujo a los dioses de los habitantes de Seír y los tomó como propios, se postró delante de ellos y les quemó incienso.	14 When Amaziah returned from his conquest of the Edomites he brought back with him the gods of the people of Seir, which he set up as his own gods; he bowed down before them and offered sacrifice to them.
15 Entonces la ira del Señor se encendió contra Amasías y el envió un profeta para decirle: «¿Por qué has buscado a los dioses de esa gente, que no han podido salvar a su pueblo de tus manos?».	15 Then the anger of the LORD blazed out against Amaziah, and he sent a prophet to him who said: "Why have you had recourse to this people's gods that could not save their own people from your hand?"
16 Mientras el profeta le estaba hablando, Amasías le replicó: «¿Quién te ha nombrado consejero del rey? ¡No insistas! ¿O quieres que te maten?». El profeta desistió, no sin antes decir: «Yo sé que Dios ha decidido destruirte, por haber hecho esto y no haber escuchado mi consejo».	16 While he was still speaking, however, the king said to him: "Have you been made the king's counselor? Be silent! Why should it be necessary to kill you?" Therefore the prophet desisted. "I know, however," he said, "that God has let you take counsel to your own destruction, because you have done this thing and have refused to hear my counsel."
17 Después de hacerse aconsejar, Amasías, rey de Judá, envió mensajeros a Joás, hijo de Joacaz, hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel, para decirle: «¡Ven a enfrentarte conmigo cara a cara!».	17 Having taken counsel, King Amaziah of Judah sent messengers to Joash, son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, the king of Israel, saying, "Come, let us meet each other face to face."
18 Pero Joás, rey de Israel, mandó a decir a Amasías, rey de Judá: «El cardo del Líbano mandó a decir al cedro del Líbano: Dale tu hija por esposa a mi hijo. Pero un animal salvaje del Líbano pasó y pisoteó el cardo.	18 King Joash of Israel sent this reply to King Amaziah of Judah: "The thistle of the Lebanon sent a message to the cedar of the Lebanon, saying, 'Give your daughter to my son for his wife.' But the wild beasts of the Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle down.
19 Tú dices: «He derrotado a Edom», y por eso tu corazón se ha engreído y se gloría. ¡Quédate ahora en tu casa! ¿Para qué comprometerte en una guerra desastrosas y sucumbir, tú y Judá contigo?».	19 You are thinking, 'See, I have beaten Edom!', and thus ambition makes you proud. Remain at home. Why involve yourself, and Judah with you, in misfortune and failure?"
20 Amasías no hizo caso, porque Dios así lo había dispuesto, para entregarlo en manos de Joás por haber venerado a los dioses de Edom.	20 But Amaziah would not listen, for God had determined to hand them over because they had had recourse to the gods of Edom.
21 Entonces subió Joás, rey de Israel, y se enfrentaron él y Amasías, rey de Judá, en Bet Semes de Judá.	21 Therefore King Joash of Israel advanced and he and King Amaziah met in battle at Beth-shemesh of Judah.
22 Judá cayó derrotado ante Israel, y cada uno huyó a su carpa.	22 There Judah was defeated by Israel, and all the Judean soldiers fled homeward.
23 Joás, rey de Israel, tomó prisionero en Bet Semes a Amasías, hijo de Joás, hijo de Ocozías, rey de Judá. Lo llevó a Jerusalén y abrió una brecha de doscientos metros en el muro de Jerusalén, desde la puerta de Efraím hasta la puerta del Angulo.	23 King Joash of Israel captured Amaziah, king of Judah, son of Joash, son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh and brought him to Jerusalem. Then he tore down the wall of Jerusalem from the Ephraim Gate to the Corner Gate, a distance of four hundred cubits.
24 Se apoderó de todo el oro y la plata y de todos los objetos que se hallaban en la Casa de Dios, al cuidado de Obededom; se llevó los tesoros de la casa del rey y algunos rehenes, y se volvió a Samaría.	24 He took away all the gold and silver and all the vessels he found in the house of God with Obed-edom, together with the treasures of the palace, and hostages as well. Then he returned to Samaria.
25 Amasías, hijo de Joás, rey de Judá, vivió quince años después de la muerte de Joás, hijo de Joacaz, rey de Israel.	25 Amaziah, son of Joash, king of Judah, survived Joash, son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, by fifteen years.
26 El resto de los hechos de Amasías, desde el comienzo hasta el fin, ¿no está escrito en el Libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel?	26 The rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, can be found written, as is well known, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
27 A partir del momento en que Amasías dejó de seguir al Señor, se urdió una conspiración contra él en Jerusalén. El huyó a Laquis, pero lo hicieron perseguir hasta Laquis y allí le dieron muerte.	27 Now from the time that Amaziah ceased to follow the LORD, a conspiracy was formed against him in Jerusalem; hence he fled to Lachish. But they pursued him to Lachish and put him to death there.
28 Después lo trasladaron sobre unos caballos, y fue sepultado con sus padres en la Ciudad de David.	28 They brought him back on horses and buried him with his ancestors in the City of Judah.
