EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 El año decimoctavo del reinado de Jeroboam, hijo de Nebat, Abiam comenzó a reinar sobre Judá.	1 In the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam son of Nebat, Abijam became king of Judah
2 El reinó tres años en Jerusalén. Su madre se llamaba Maacá, y era hija de Abisalom.	2 and reigned for three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant of Absalom.
3 El imitó todos los pecados que su padre había cometido antes que él, y su corazón no perteneció íntegramente al Señor, su Dios, como el de su padre David.	3 In everything he fol owed the sinful example of his father before him; his heart was not wholly withYahweh his God, as the heart of David his ancestor had been.
4 Sin embargo, por consideración a David, el Señor, su Dios, le concedió una lámpara en Jerusalén, asegurándole una descendencia y manteniendo en pie a Jerusalén.	4 However, for David's sake, Yahweh his God gave him a lamp in Jerusalem, with a son to succeed him,so keeping Jerusalem secure;
5 Porque David había hecho lo que es recto a los ojos del Señor, sin apartarse jamás de lo que él le había mandado, salvo en el caso de Urías, el hitita 6i.	5 for David had done what Yahweh regarded as right and had never in all his life disobeyed whatever hecommanded him (except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite).

Abijam and Jeroboam made war on each other.
8 Abiam se fue a descansar con sus padres y lo sepultaron en la Ciudad de David. Su hijo Asá reinó en lugar de él.	8 When Abijam fel asleep with his ancestors, he was buried in the City of David; his son Asa succeededhim.
9 El vigésimo año de Jeroboam, rey de Israel, comenzó a reinar Asá como rey de Judá.	9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king of Judah
10 El reinó cuarenta y un años en Jerusalén. Su abuela se llamaba Maacá, y era hija de Abisalom.	10 and reigned for forty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maacah descendant ofAbsalom.
11 Asá hizo lo que es recto a los ojos del Señor, igual que su padre David.	11 Asa did what Yahweh regards as right, as his ancestor David had done.
12 Expulsó del país a los que se dedicaban a la prostitución sagrada y retiró todos los ídolos fabricados por sus antepasados.	12 He drove the male prostitutes out of the country and got rid of all the idols which his ancestors hadmade.
13 Incluso despojó del rango de reina madre a su abuela Maacá, por haber dedicado un horrendo fetiche, quemándolo en el torrente Cedrón.	13 He even deprived his grandmother Maacah of the dignity of Great Lady for having made an obscenityfor Asherah; Asa cut down her obscenity and burnt it in the ravine of the Kidron.
14 Sin embargo, no desaparecieron los lugares altos, aunque el corazón de Asá perteneció íntegramente al Señor durante toda la vida.	14 Though the high places were not abolished, Asa's heart was loyal to Yahweh throughout his life.
15 El hizo llevar a la Casa del Señor las ofrendas consagradas por su padre y las que él mismo había consagrado: plata, oro y otros utensilios.	15 He deposited his father's and his own dedicated gifts of silver, gold and sacred vessels in the Templeof Yahweh.
16 Entre Asá y Basá, rey de Israel, hubo guerras continuas.	16 Asa and Baasha king of Israel were at war with each other throughout their reigns.
17 Basá, rey de Israel, subió contra Judá y fortificó Ramá, para cortarle las comunicaciones a Asá, rey de Judá.	17 Baasha king of Israel marched on Judah and fortified Ramah to blockade Asa king of Judah.
18 Entonces Asá recogió toda la plata y el oro que aún quedaban en los tesoros de la Casa del Señor y en los de la casa del rey, y se los confió a sus servidores, a los que envió luego a Ben Hadad, hijo de Tabrimón, hijo de Jezión, rey de Aram, que residía en Damasco, con el siguiente mensaje:	18 Asa then took al the remaining silver and gold left in the treasuries of the Temple of Yahweh and theroyal palace. Entrusting this to his servants, King Asa sent them with the fol owing message to Ben-Hadad sonof Tabrimmon, son of Hezion, the king of Aram who lived in Damascus,
19 «Hay una alianza entre tú y yo, como la hubo entre mi padre y el tuyo. Aquí te envío como presente plata y oro. Rompe entonces tu alianza con Basá, rey de Israel, para que se retire de mi territorio».	19 'Let us make an al iance between myself and yourself, between my father and your father! Look, Ihave sent you a gift of silver and gold. Come, break off your al iance with Baasha king of Israel, which wil makehim withdraw from me.'
20 Ben Hadad le hizo caso y envió a los jefes de su ejército contra las ciudades de Israel. Atacó a Iyón, Dan, Abel Bet Maacá, toda la región de Quinéret y todo el territorio de Neftalí.	20 Ben-Hadad listened favourably to King Asa, and sent the generals of his armies to attack the towns ofIsrael; he ravaged Ijon, Dan, Abel-Beth-Maacah, al Chinneroth, and the whole territory of Naphtali.
21 Cuando se enteró Basá, suspendió la fortificación de Ramá y regresó a Tirsá.	21 When Baasha heard this he gave up fortifying Ramah and retired to Tirzah.
22 El rey Asá convocó luego a todos los habitantes de Judá, sin excepción, y se llevaron las piedras y la madera con que Basá estaba fortificando Ramá. Con ellas, el rey Asá fortificó Gueba de Benjamín y Mispá.	22 King Asa then summoned al Judah, no one was exempt; they took away the stones and timber withwhich Baasha had been fortifying Ramah, and King Asa used them to fortify Geba of Benjamin and Mizpah.

In his old age, however, he contracted a disease of his feet.

25 Nadab, hijo de Jeroboam, comenzó a reinar sobre Israel el segundo año de Asá, rey de Judá, y reinó dos años sobre Israel.	25 Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and hereigned over Israel for two years.
26 El hizo lo que es malo a los ojos del Señor; siguió el camino de su padre y persistió en el pecado con que este hizo pecar a Israel.	26 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh; he copied his father's example and the sin into which he hadled Israel.
27 Basá, hijo de Ajías, de la casa de Isacar, conspiró contra él y lo ultimó en Guibetón, que pertenecía a los filisteos, cuando Nadab y todo Israel lo estaban sitiando.	27 Baasha son of Ahijah, of the House of Issachar, plotted against him and murdered him at Gibbethon,a Philistine town which Nadab and all Israel were besieging.
28 Basá dio muerte a Nadab en el tercer año de Asá, rey de Judá, y se constituyó rey en lugar de él.	28 Baasha kil ed Nadab and succeeded him in the third year of Asa king of Judah.
29 Apenas comenzó a reinar, masacró a toda la casa de Jeroboam, hasta exterminarla, sin dejar a nadie con vida, conforme a la palabra que había dicho el Señor por medio de su servidor Ajías de Silo.	29 No sooner was he king than he butchered the entire House of Jeroboam, not sparing a soul, and putan end to it, just as Yahweh had foretold through his servant Ahijah of Shiloh,
30 Esto sucedió a causa de los pecados que Jeroboam cometió e hizo cometer a Israel, provocando así la indignación del Señor, el Dios de Israel.	30 because of the sins which he had committed and into which he had led Israel, and because he hadprovoked the anger of Yahweh, God of Israel.

34 El hizo lo que es malo a los ojos del Señor; siguió el camino de Jeroboam y persistió en el pecado con que este hizo pecar a Israel.	34 He did what is displeasing to Yahweh; he copied the example of Jeroboam and the sin into which hehad led Israel.
