EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 El rey Salomón amó a muchas mujeres, además de la hija del Faraón: mujeres moabitas, amonitas, edomitas, sidonias e hititas,	1 And king Solomon loved many strange women besides the daughter of Pharao, and women of Moab, and of Ammon, and of Edom, and of Sidon, and of the Hethites:
2 es decir, de esas naciones de las que el Señor había dicho a los israelitas: «No se unan a ellas, y que ellas no se unan a ustedes; seguramente les desviarán el corazón hacia otros dioses». Pero Salomón se enamoró de ellas.	2 Of the nations concerning which the Lord said to the children of Israel: You shall not go in unto them, neither shall any of them come in to yours: for they will most certainly turn away your heart to follow their gods. And to these was Solomon joined with a most ardent love.
3 Tuvo setecientas mujeres con rango de princesas y trescientas concubinas, y sus mujeres le pervirtieron el corazón.	3 And he had seven hundred wives as queens, and three hundred concubines: and the women turned away his heart.
4 Así, en la vejez de Salomón, sus mujeres les desviaron el corazón hacia otros dioses, y su corazón ya no perteneció íntegramente al Señor, su Dios, como el de su padre David.	4 And when he was now old, his heart was turned away by women to follow strange gods: and his heart was not perfect with the Lord his God, as was the heart of David his father.
5 Salomón fue detrás de Astarté, la diosa de los sidonios, y detrás de Milcóm, el abominable ídolo de los amonitas.	5 But Solomon worshipped Astarthe the goddess of the Sidonians, and Moloch the idol of the ammonites.
6 El hizo lo que es malo a los ojos del Señor, y no siguió plenamente al Señor, como lo había hecho su padre David.	6 And Solomon did that which was net pleasing before the Lord, and did not fully follow the Lord, as David his father.
7 Fue entonces cuando Salomón erigió, sobre la montaña que está al este de Jerusalén, un lugar alto dedicado a Quemós, el abominable ídolo de Moab, y a Milcóm, el ídolo de los amonitas.	7 Then Solomon built a temple for Chamos the idol of Moab, on the hill that is over against Jerusalem, and for Moloch the idol of the children of Ammon.
8 Y lo mismo hizo para todas sus mujeres extranjeras, que quemaban incienso y ofrecían sacrificios a sus dioses.	8 And he did in this manner for all his wives that were strangers, who burnt incense, and offered sacrifice to their gods.
9 El Señor se indignó contra Salomón, porque su corazón se había apartado de él, el Dios de Israel, que se le había aparecido dos veces	9 And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his mind was turned away from the Lord the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,
10 y le había prohibido ir detrás de otros dioses. Pero Salomón no observó lo que le había mandado el Señor.	10 And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not follow strange gods: but he kept not the things which the Lord commanded him.
11 Entonces el Señor dijo a Salomón: «Porque has obrado así y no has observado mi alianza ni los preceptos que yo te prescribí, voy a arrancarte el reino y se lo daré a uno de tus servidores.	11 The Lord therefore said to Solomon: Because thou hast done this, and hast not kept my covenant, and my precepts, which I have commanded thee, I will divide and rend thy kingdom, and will give it to thy servant.
12 Sin embargo, no lo haré mientras tú vivas, por consideración a tu padre David: se lo arrancaré de las manos a tu hijo.	12 Nevertheless in thy days I will not do it, for David thy father's sake: but I will rend it out of the hand of thy son.
13 Pero no le arrancaré todo el reino, sino que le daré a tu hijo una tribu, por consideración a mi servidor David y a Jerusalén, la que yo elegí».	13 Neither will I take away the whole kingdom, but I will give one tribe to thy son for the sake of David my servant, and Jerusalem which I have chosen.
14 El Señor le suscitó a Salomón un adversario: Hadad, el edomita, de la estirpe real de Edom.	14 And the Lord raised up an adversary to Solomon, Adad the Edomite of the king's seed, in Edom.
15 En efecto, después que David derrotó a Edom, Joab, el general del ejército, al subir para enterrar a sus víctimas, ultimó a todos los varones de Edom.	15 For when David was in Edom, and Joab the general of the army was gone up to bury them that were slain, and had killed every male in Edom,
16 Porque Joab se quedó allí seis meses, con todo Israel, hasta acabar con todos los varones de Edom.	16 (For Joab remained there six months with all Israel, till he had slain every male in Edom,)
17 Pero Hadad, que entonces era muy joven, logró huir con algunos edomitas servidores de su padre, para ir a Egipto.	17 Then Adad fled, he and certain Edomites, of his father's servants with him, to go into Egypt: and Adad was then a little boy.
18 Partieron de Madián y llegaron a Parán, donde se les agregaron algunos hombres de Parán. Luego entraron en Egipto y se presentaron ante el Faraón, rey de Egipto, que dio a Hadad una casa, le aseguró el sustento y le concedió tierras.	18 And they arose out of Madian, and came into Pharan, and they took men with them from Pharan, and went into Egypt to Pharao the king of Egypt: who gave him a house, and appointed him victuals, and assigned him land.
19 Hadad se ganó a tal punto el favor del Faraón, que este le dio por esposa a su cuñada, la hermana de Tajfenés, la reina madre.	19 And Adad found great favour before Pharao, insomuch that he gave him to wife, the own sister of his wife Taphnes the queen.
20 La hermana de Tajfenés le dio un hijo, llamado Guenubat, al que Tajfenés crió en la casa del Faraón. Así Guenubat permaneció en la casa del Faraón, entre los hijos de este.	20 And the sister of Taphnes bore him his son Genubath, and Taphnes brought him up in the house of Pharao: and Genubath dwelt with Pharao among his children.
21 Pero cuando Hadad se enteró en Egipto de que David se había ido a descansar con sus padres, y que también había muerto Joab, el general del ejército, dijo al Faraón: «Déjame ir a mi país».	21 And when Adad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the general of the army was dead, he add to Pharao: Let me depart, that I may go to my own country.
22 El Faraón le respondió: «¿Qué te falta junto a mí para que ahora trates de ir a tu país?». «Nada, dijo él, pero déjame partir».	22 And Pharao said to him: Why, what is wanting to thee with me, that thou seekest to go to thy own country? But he answered: Nothing: yet I beseech thee to let me go.
23 Dios le suscitó además a Salomón otro adversario: Rezón, hijo de Eliadá. El había huido de Hadadézer, rey de Sobá, su señor;	23 God also raised up against him an adversary, Razon the son of Eliada, 'who had fled from his master Adarezer the king of Soba:
24 Había agrupado a unos cuantos hombres en torno de él y se había convertido en jefe de una banda. Como David los perseguía a muerte, fue a establecerse en Damasco, y allí reinó.	24 And he gathered men against him, and he became a captain of robbers, when David slew them of Soba: and they went to Damascus, and dwelt there, and they made him king in Damascus.
	25 And he was an adversary to Israel, all the days of Solomon: and this is the evil of Adad, and his hatred against Israel, and he reigned in Syria.
26 Jeroboam, hijo de Nebat, el efraimita, natural de Seredá –cuya madre, una viuda, se llamaba Seruá– estaba al servicio de Salomón y se sublevó contra él.	26 Jeroboam also the son of Nabat an Ephrathite of Sareda, a servant of Solomon, whose mother was named Sarua, a widow woman, lifted up his hand against the king.
27 La ocasión en que se sublevó contra el rey fue la siguiente: Salomón estaba construyendo el Terraplén y cubría el desnivel que había en la Ciudad de David, su padre.	27 And this is the cause of his rebellion against him, for Solomon built Mello, and filled up the breach of the city of David his father.
28 Jeroboam era un hombre de gran valía, y Salomón, al ver cómo el joven ejecutaba la obra, lo puso al frente de los servicios que debía prestar la casa de José.	28 And Jeroboam was a valiant and mighty man: and Solomon seeing him a young man ingenious and industrious, made him chief over the tributes of all the house of Joseph.
29 En cierta ocasión, Jeroboam salió de Jerusalén y lo encontró en el camino el profeta Ajías, de Silo; este iba cubierto con un manto nuevo, y los dos estaban solos en el campo.	29 So it came to paste at that time, that Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, and the prophet Ahias the Silonite, clad with a new garment, found him in the way: and they two were alone in the held.
30 Ajías tomó el manto que llevaba encima y lo desgarró en doce pedazos.	30 And Ahias taking his new garment, wherewith he was clad, divided it into twelve parts:
31 Luego dijo a Jeroboam: «Toma para di diez pedazos, porque sí habla el Señor, el Dios de Israel: Yo voy a desgarrar el reino que Salomón tiene en su mano, y te daré las diez tribus.	31 ,31And he said to Jeroboam: Take to thee ten pieces: for thus saith the Lord the God of Israel: Behold I will rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give thee ten tribes.
32 Una sola tribu será para él, por consideración a mi servidor David y a Jerusalén, la ciudad que yo elegí entre todas las tribus de Israel.	32 But one tribe shall remain to him for the sake of my servant David, and Jerusalem the city, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel:
33 Porque él me abandonó y se postró delante de Astarté, la diosa de los sidonios, delante de Quemós, el dios de Moab, y delante de Milcóm, el dios de los amonitas, y porque no siguió mis caminos haciendo lo que es recto a mis ojos y practicando mis preceptos y mis leyes como su padre David.	33 Because he hath forsaken me, and hath adored Astarthe the goddess of the Sidonians, and Chamos the god of Moab, and Moloch the god of the children of Ammon: and hath not walked in my ways, to do justice before me, and to keep my precepts, and judgments as did David his father.
34 Pero no le quitaré el reino de su mano, sino que lo mantendré como jefe todos los días de su vida, por consideración a mi servidor David, a quien elegí y que observó mis mandamientos y preceptos;	34 Yet I will not take away all the kingdom out of his hand, but I will make him prince all the days of his life, for David my servant's sake, whom I chose, who kept my commandments and my precepts.
35 quitaré el reino de manos de su hijo y te lo daré a ti. A ti te daré diez tribus	35 But I will take away the kingdom out of his son's hand and will give thee ten tribes:
36 y a su hijo una sola, a fin de que mi servidor David tenga siempre una lámpara ante mí en Jerusalén, la ciudad que yo me elegí para poner mi Nombre en ella.	36 And to his son I will give one tribe, that there may remain a lamp for my servant David before me always in Jerusalem the city which I have chosen, that my name might be there.
37 En cuanto a ti, yo te constituiré, tú reinarás conforme a tus deseos y serás rey de Israel.	37 And I will take thee, and thou shalt reign over all that thy soul desireth, and thou shalt be king over Israel.
38 Si obedeces en todo lo que yo te ordene y sigues mis caminos, si haces lo que es recto a mis ojos, observando mis preceptos y mis mandamientos, como lo hizo mi servidor David, yo estaré contigo y te edificaré una dinastía estable, como la edifiqué para David. Te entregaré a Israel	38 If then thou wilt hearken to all that I shall command thee, and wilt walk in my ways, and do what is right before me, keeping my commandments and my precepts, as David my servant did: I will be with thee, and will build thee up a faithful house, as I built a house for David, and I will deliver Israel to thee:
39 y humillaré a la estirpe de David a causa de esto, aunque no para siempre».	39 And I will for this afflict the seed of David, but yet not for ever.
40 Salomón trató de dar muerte a Jeroboam, pero este huyó y se refugió en Egipto, junto a Sisac, rey de Egipto, donde permaneció hasta la muerte de Salomón.	40 Solomon therefore sought to kill Jeroboam: but he arose, and fled into Egypt to Sesac the king of Egypt, and was in Egypt till the death of Solomon.
41 El resto de los hechos de Salomón y todo lo que él hizo, lo mismo que su sabiduría, ¿no está escrito en el libro de los Anales de Salomón?	41 And the rest of the words of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom: behold they are all written in the book of the words of the days of Solomon.
42 Salomón reinó sobre todo Israel durante cuarenta años.	42 And the days that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel, were forty years.
43 Luego se fue a descansar con sus padres, y fue sepultado en la Ciudad de David, su padre. Su hijo Roboam reinó en lugar de él.	43 And Solomon slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David his father, and Roboam his son reigned in his stead.
