SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Eu mesmo não passo de um mortal como todos os outros, e descendo do primeiro homem formado da terra. Meu corpo foi formado no seio de minha mãe,	1 I too am mortal like everyone else, a descendant of the first man formed from the earth. I was model edin flesh inside a mother's womb,
2 onde, durante dez meses, no sangue tomou consistência, da semente viril e do prazer ajuntado à união (conjugal).	2 where, for ten months, in blood I acquired substance -- the result of virile seed and pleasure, sleep'scompanion.
3 Eu também, desde meu nascimento, respirei o ar comum; eu caí, da mesma maneira que todos, sobre a mesma terra, e, como todos, nos mesmos prantos soltei o primeiro grito.	3 I too, when I was born, drew in the common air, I fel on the same ground that bears us al , and cryingwas the first sound I made, like everyone else.
4 Envolto em faixas fui criado no meio de assíduos cuidados;	4 I was nurtured in swaddling clothes, with every care.
5 porque nenhum rei teve outro início na existência;	5 No king has known any other beginning of existence;
6 para todos a entrada na vida é a mesma e a partida semelhante.	6 for there is only one way into life, and one way out of it.
7 Assim implorei e a inteligência me foi dada, supliquei e o espírito da sabedoria veio a mim.	7 And so I prayed, and understanding was given me; I entreated, and the spirit of Wisdom came to me.
8 Eu a preferi aos cetros e tronos, e avaliei a riqueza como um nada ao lado da Sabedoria.	8 I esteemed her more than sceptres and thrones; compared with her, I held riches as nothing.
9 Não comparei a ela a pedra preciosa, porque todo o ouro ao lado dela é apenas um pouco de areia, e porque a prata diante dela será tida como lama.	9 I reckoned no precious stone to be her equal, for compared with her, al gold is a pinch of sand, andbeside her, silver ranks as mud.
10 Eu a amei mais do que a saúde e a beleza, e gozei dela mais do que da claridade do sol, porque a claridade que dela emana jamais se extingue.	10 I loved her more than health or beauty, preferred her to the light, since her radiance never sleeps.
11 Com ela me vieram todos os bens, e nas suas mãos inumeráveis riquezas.	11 In her company al good things came to me, and at her hands incalculable wealth.
12 De todos esses bens eu me alegrei, porque é a Sabedoria que os guia, mas ignorava que ela fosse sua mãe.	12 All these delighted me, since Wisdom brings them, though I did not then realise that she was theirmother.
13 Eu estudei lealmente e reparto sem inveja e não escondo a riqueza que ela encerra,	13 What I learned diligently, I shal pass on liberally, I shal not conceal how rich she is.
14 porque ela é para os homens um tesouro inesgotável; e os que a adquirem preparam-se para se tornar amigos de Deus, recomendados (a ele) pela educação que ela lhes dá.	14 For she is to human beings an inexhaustible treasure, and those who acquire this win God'sfriendship, commended to him by the gifts of instruction.
15 Que Deus me permita falar como eu quisera, e ter pensamentos dignos dos dons que recebi, porque é ele mesmo quem guia a sabedoria e emenda os sábios,	15 May God grant me to speak as he would wish and conceive thoughts worthy of the gifts I havereceived, since he is both guide to Wisdom and director of sages;
16 porque nós estamos nas suas mãos, nós e nossos discursos, toda a nossa inteligência e nossa habilidade; 17. foi ele quem me deu a verdadeira ciência de todas as coisas, quem me fez conhecer a constituição do mundo e as virtudes dos elementos,	16 for we are in his hand, yes, ourselves and our sayings, and al intellectual and al practical knowledge.
	17 He it was who gave me sure knowledge of what exists, to understand the structure of the world andthe action of the elements,
18 o começo, o fim e o meio dos tempos, a sucessão dos solstícios e as mutações das estações,	18 the beginning, end and middle of the times, the alternation of the solstices and the succession of theseasons,
19 os ciclos do ano e as posições dos astros,	19 the cycles of the year and the position of the stars,
20 a natureza dos animais e os instintos dos brutos, os poderes dos espíritos e os pensamentos dos homens, a variedade das plantas e as propriedades das raízes.	20 the natures of animals and the instincts of wild beasts, the powers of spirits and human mentalprocesses, the varieties of plants and the medical properties of roots.
21 Tudo que está escondido e tudo que está aparente eu conheço: porque foi a sabedoria, criadora de todas as coisas, que mo ensinou.	21 And now I understand everything, hidden or visible, for Wisdom, the designer of all things, hasinstructed me.
22 Há nela, com efeito, um espírito inteligente, santo, único, múltiplo, sutil, móvel, penetrante, puro, claro, inofensivo, inclinado ao bem, agudo,	22 For within her is a spirit intel igent, holy, unique, manifold, subtle, mobile, incisive, unsul ied, lucid,invulnerable, benevolent, shrewd,
23 livre, benéfico, benévolo, estável, seguro, livre de inquietação, que pode tudo, que cuida de tudo, que penetra em todos os espíritos, os inteligentes, os puros, os mais sutis.	23 irresistible, beneficent, friendly to human beings, steadfast, dependable, unperturbed, almighty, al -surveying, penetrating al intel igent, pure and most subtle spirits.
24 Mais ágil que todo o movimento é a Sabedoria, ela atravessa e penetra tudo, graças à sua pureza.	24 For Wisdom is quicker to move than any motion; she is so pure, she pervades and permeates allthings.
25 Ela é um sopro do poder de Deus, uma irradiação límpida da glória do Todo-poderoso; assim mancha nenhuma pode insinuar-se nela.	25 She is a breath of the power of God, pure emanation of the glory of the Almighty; so nothing impurecan find its way into her.
26 É ela uma efusão da luz eterna, um espelho sem mancha da atividade de Deus, e uma imagem de sua bondade.	26 For she is a reflection of the eternal light, untarnished mirror of God's active power, and image of hisgoodness.
27 Embora única, tudo pode; imutável em si mesma, renova todas as coisas. Ela se derrama de geração em geração nas almas santas e forma os amigos e os intérpretes de Deus,	27 Although she is alone, she can do everything; herself unchanging, she renews the world, and,generation after generation, passing into holy souls, she makes them into God's friends and prophets;
28 porque Deus somente ama quem vive com a sabedoria!	28 for God loves only those who dwel with Wisdom.
29 É ela, com efeito, mais bela que o sol e ultrapassa o conjunto dos astros. Comparada à luz, ela se sobreleva,	29 She is indeed more splendid than the sun, she outshines al the constel ations; compared with light,she takes first place,
30 porque à luz sucede a noite, enquanto que, contra a Sabedoria, o mal não prevalece.	30 for light must yield to night, but against Wisdom evil cannot prevail.
