1 My little sons, this I write to you, so that you may not sin. But if anyone has sinned, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the Just One.	1 Hijos míos, os escribo esto para que no pequéis. Pero si alguno peca, tenemos a uno que abogue ante el Padre: a Jesucristo, el Justo.
2 And he is the propitiation for our sins. And not only for our sins, but also for those of the whole world.	2 El es víctima de propiciación por nuestros pecados, no sólo por los nuestros, sino también por los del mundo entero.
3 And we can be sure that we have known him by this: if we observe his commandments.	3 En esto sabemos que le conocemos: en que guardamos sus mandamientos.
4 Whoever claims that he knows him, and yet does not keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.	4 Quien dice: «Yo le conozco» y no guarda sus mandamientos es un mentiroso y la verdad no está en él.
5 But whoever keeps his word, truly in him the charity of God is perfected. And by this we know that we are in him.	5 Pero quien guarda su Palabra, ciertamente en él el amor de Dios ha llegado a su plenitud. En esto conocemos que estamos en él.
6 Whoever declares himself to remain in him, ought to walk just as he himself walked.	6 Quien dice que permanece en él, debe vivir como vivió él.
7 Most beloved, I am not writing to you a new commandment, but the old commandment, which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the Word, which you have heard.	7 Queridos, no os escribo un mandamiento nuevo, sino el mandamiento antiguo, que tenéis desde el principio. Este mandamiento antiguo es la Palabra que habéis escuchado.
8 Then too, I am writing to you a new commandment, which is the Truth in him and in you. For the darkness has passed away, and the true Light is now shining.	8 Y sin embargo, os escribo un mandamiento nuevo - lo cual es verdadero en él y en vosotros - pues las tinieblas pasan y la luz verdadera brilla ya.
9 Whoever declares himself to be in the light, and yet hates his brother, is in the darkness even now.	9 Quien dice que está en la luz y aborrece a su hermano, está aún en las tinieblas.
10 Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause of offense in him.	10 Quien ama a su hermano permanece en la luz y no tropieza.
11 But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness, and in darkness he walks, and he does not know where he is going. For the darkness has blinded his eyes.	11 Pero quien aborrece a su hermano está en las tinieblas, camina en las tinieblas, no sabe a dónde va, porque las tinieblas han cegado sus ojos.
12 I am writing to you, little sons, because your sins are forgiven for the sake of his name.	12 Os escribo a vosotros, hijos míos, porque se os han perdonado los pecados por su nombre.
13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you have known him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, adolescents, because you have overcome the evil one.	13 Os escribo a vosotros, padres, porque conocéis al que es desde el principio. Os escribo a vosotros, jóvenes, porque habéis vencido al Maligno.
14 I am writing to you, little children, because you have known the Father. I am writing to you, young men, because you are strong, and the Word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one.	14 Os he escrito a vosotros, hijos míos, porque conocéis al Padre, Os he escrito, padres, porque conocéis al que es desde el principio. Os he escrito, jóvenes, porque sois fuertes y la Palabra de Dios permanece en vosotros y habéis vencido al Maligno.
15 Do not choose to love the world, nor the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the charity of the Father is not in him.	15 No améis al mundo ni lo que hay en el mundo. Si alguien ama al mundo, el amor del Padre no está en él.
16 For all that is in the world is the desire of the flesh, and the desire of the eyes, and the arrogance of a life which is not of the Father, but is of the world.	16 Puesto que todo lo que hay en el mundo - la concupiscencia de la carne, la concupiscencia de los ojos y la jactancia de las riquezas - no viene del Padre, sino del mundo.
17 And the world is passing away, with its desire. But whoever does the will of God abides unto eternity.	17 El mundo y sus concupiscencias pasan; pero quien cumple la voluntad de Dios permanece para siempre.
18 Little sons, it is the last hour. And, as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have arrived. By this, we know that it is the last hour.	18 Hijos míos, es la última hora. Habéis oído que iba a venir un Anticristo; pues bien, muchos anticristos han aparecido, por lo cual nos damos cuenta que es ya la última hora.
19 They went out from among us, but they were not of us. For, if they had been of us, certainly they would have remained with us. But in this way, it is made manifest that none of them are of us.	19 Salieron de entre nosotros; pero no eran de los nuestros. Si hubiesen sido de los nuestros, habrían permanecido con nosotros. Pero sucedió así para poner de manifiesto que no todos son de los nuestros.
20 Yet you have the anointing of the Holy One, and you know everything.	20 En cuanto a vosotros, estáis ungidos por el Santo y todos vosotros lo sabéis.
21 I have not written to you as to ones who are ignorant of the truth, but as to ones who know the truth. For no lie is of the truth.	21 Os he escrito, no porque desconozcáis la verdad, sino porque la conocéis y porque ninguna mentira viene de la verdad.
22 Who is a liar, other than he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This one is the Antichrist, who denies the Father and the Son.	22 ¿Quién es el mentiroso sino el que niega que Jesús es el Cristo? Ese es el Anticristo, el que niega al Padre y al Hijo.
23 No one who denies the Son also has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son, also has the Father.	23 Todo el que niega al Hijo tampoco posee al Padre. Quien confiesa al Hijo posee también al Padre.
24 As for you, let what you have heard from the beginning remain in you. If what you have heard from the beginning remains in you, then you, too, shall abide in the Son and in the Father.	24 En cuanto a vosotros, lo que habéis oído desde el principio permanezca en vosotros. Si permanece en vosotros lo que habéis oído desde el principio, también vosotros permaneceréis en el Hijo y en el Padre,
25 And this is the Promise, which he himself has promised to us: Eternal Life.	25 y esta es la promesa que él mismo os hizo: la vida eterna.
26 I have written these things to you, because of those who would seduce you.	26 Os he escrito esto respecto a los que tratan de engañaros.
27 But as for you, let the Anointing that you have received from him abide in you. And so, you have no need of anyone to teach you. For his Anointing teaches you about everything, and it is the truth, and it is not a lie. And just as his Anointing has taught you, abide in him.	27 Y en cuanto a vosotros, la unción que de El habéis recibido permanece en vosotros y no necesitáis que nadie os enseñe. Pero como su unción os enseña acerca de todas las cosas - y es verdadera y no mentirosa - según os enseñó, permaneced el él.
28 And now, little sons, abide in him, so that when he appears, we may have faith, and we may not be confounded by him at his advent.	28 Y ahora, hijos míos, permaneced en él para que, cuando se manifieste, tengamos plena confianza y no quedemos avergonzados lejos de él en su Venida.
29 If you know that he is just, then know, too, that all who do what is just are born of him.	29 Si sabéis que él es justo, reconoced que todo el que obra la justicia ha nacido de él.
