2 Peter 1

1 Simon Peter, servant and Apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have been allotted an equal faith with us in the justice of our God and in our Savior Jesus Christ.	1 Simón Pedro, servidor y Apóstol de Jesucristo, saluda a todos aquellos que, por la justicia de nuestro Dios y Salvador Jesucristo, han recibido una fe tan preciosa como la nuestra.
2 Grace to you. And may peace be fulfilled according to the plan of God and of Christ Jesus our Lord,	2 Lleguen a ustedes la gracia y la paz en abundancia, por medio del conocimiento de Dios y de Jesucristo, nuestro Señor.
3 in the same manner that all things which are for life and piety have been given to us by his Divine virtue, through the plan of him who has called us to our own glory and virtue.	3 Su poder divino, en efecto, nos ha concedido gratuitamente todo lo necesario para la vida y la piedad, haciéndonos conocer a aquel que nos llamó por la fuerza de su propia gloria.
4 Through Christ, he has given us the greatest and most precious promises, so that by these things you may become sharers in the Divine Nature, fleeing from the corruption of that desire which is in the world.	4 Gracias a ella, se nos han concedido las más grandes y valiosas promesas, a fin de que ustedes lleguen a participar de la naturaleza divina, sustrayéndose a la corrupción que reina en el mundo a causa de la concupiscencia.
5 But as for you, taking up every concern, minister virtue in your faith; and in virtue, knowledge;	5 Por esta misma razón, pongan todo el empeño posible en unir a la fe, la virtud; a la virtud, el conocimiento;
6 and in knowledge, moderation; and in moderation, patience; and in patience, piety;	6 al conocimiento, la templanza; a la templanza, la perseverancia; a la perseverancia, la piedad;
7 and in piety, love of brotherhood; and in love of brotherhood, charity.	7 a la piedad, el espíritu fraternal, y al espíritu fraternal, el amor.
8 For if these things are with you, and if they abound, they will cause you to be neither empty, nor without fruit, within the plan of our Lord Jesus Christ.	8 Porque si ustedes poseen estas cosas en abundancia, no permanecerán inactivos ni estériles en lo que se refiere al conocimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.
9 For he who does not have these things at hand is blind and groping, being forgetful of his purification from his former offenses.	9 El que no las posee es un ciego, un miope, porque olvida que ha sido purificado de sus pecados pasados.
10 Because of this, brothers, be all the more diligent, so that by good works you may make certain your calling and election. For in doing these things, you do not sin at any time.	10 Por eso, hermanos, procuren consolidar cada vez más el llamado y la elección de que han sido objeto: si obran así, no caerán jamás
11 For in this way, you shall be provided abundantly with an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.	11 y se les abrirán ampliamente las puertas del Reino eterno de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo.
12 For this reason, I will always begin to admonish you about these things, even though, certainly, you know them and are confirmed in the present truth.	12 Por eso yo les recordaré siempre estas cosas, aunque ustedes ya las saben y están bien convencidos de la verdad que ahora poseen.
13 But I consider it just, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up with admonishments.	13 Me parece justo que los mantenga despiertos, recordándoles esto mientras yo viva en esta tienda de campaña
14 For it is certain that the laying to rest of this, my tabernacle, is approaching swiftly, just as our Lord Jesus Christ has also indicated to me.	14 porque sé que muy pronto tendré que dejarla, como me lo ha hecho saber nuestro Señor Jesucristo.
15 Therefore, I will present a work for you to have, so that, frequently after my passing, you may call to mind these things.	15 Y haré todo lo posible a fin de que, después de mi partida, ustedes se acuerden siempre de estas cosas.
16 For it was not by following fanciful doctrines that we made known to you the power and presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were made eyewitnesses of his greatness.	16 Porque no les hicimos conocer el poder y la Venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo basados en fábulas ingeniosamente inventadas, sino como testigos oculares de su grandeza.
17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father, whose voice descended to him from the magnificent glory: “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.”	17 En efecto, él recibió de Dios Padre el honor y la gloria, cuando la Gloria llena de majestad le dirigió esta palabra: «Este es mi Hijo muy querido, en quien tengo puesta mi predilección».
18 We also heard this voice conveyed from heaven, when we were with him on the holy mountain.	18 Nosotros oímos esta voz que venía del cielo, mientras estábamos con él en la montaña santa.
19 And so, we have an even firmer prophetic word, to which you would do well to listen, as to a light shining within a dark place, until the day dawns, and the daystar rises, in your hearts.	19 Así hemos visto confirmada la palabra de los profetas, y ustedes hacen bien en prestar atención a ella, como a una lámpara que brilla en un lugar oscuro hasta que despunte el día y aparezca el lucero de la mañana en sus corazones.
20 Understand this first: that every prophecy of Scripture does not result from one’s own interpretation.	20 Pero tengan presente, ante todo, que nadie puede interpretar por cuenta propia una profecía de la Escritura.
21 For prophecy was not conveyed by human will at any time. Instead, holy men were speaking about God while inspired by the Holy Spirit.	21 Porque ninguna profecía ha sido anunciada por voluntad humana, sino que los hombres han hablado de parte de Dios, impulsados por el Espíritu Santo.
